    Dark Lord

GF4 at least, GF5 would be better ( or any ATI equivalent )

After that, the RAM should scale to your region

    New problem.

I can get the program to run w/the exception of the window for sculpting the landscape. The image window & the bow for adjusting height etc were there.

    look again 4.gif

in the folder you unzip SC4Terraformer, there is a config.ini file next to SC4Terraformer.exe, delete the config.ini

I don't understand what you mean by "I see config settingsℑ"

I havn't read through this thread yet, but i have noticed two problems so far.

-One is that when i make a region with the terraformer, it looks fine, but when i load it up in the game, some squares are missing, the best i've manages so far is one tile missing on a 3x3 (large city) square, but sometimes even half of them are missing, they just show up as blank all water tiles even though there is supposed to be something there.

-Another is that the tiles behave as if they are individual islands, each one prompting me to use the *thingy* (the align it with neighbouring tiles) when i open them, doing so will make each tile an island.

Is this normal? Are there ways around this?

    Hi garfiedude

for 1 ) you should have the 'show transportation map' option checked. uncheck it

for 2 ) go in option, and uncheck 'autoreconcialate edge'

    Take care

for the San Francisco Bay Area map, when i go to begin downloading it onto my region, it says that the dimensions are too big for the selected regions. Is there a way to get rid of the dimmension requirements?

the San Francisco Bay Area map is a jpg file, it seems that you're talking about SC4 rendering, not SC4TF. in SC4TF you will be prompt if you want to fit the image to the config.bmp dimension

Download the map & the config.bmp

go in MyDocs\SimCity 4\Regions create a subfolder 'SanFranciscoBay', put the downloaded config.bmp in it

run SC4TF and choose the 'SanFranciscoBay', you will have a flat region

choose global Tools->import, select the downloaded jpeg, and choose 1500m.dat as scalefactor

you will now have the correct region

save the region CTRL-S and close SC4TF, you can now run SC4 and open the new region

I have downloaded the .09cPatched version and have used it a little and it works just fine. However, I recently reinstalled using the 1.0c version and I can't get it to work. I checked to see if I have the d3dx9_30.dll and the msvcp71.dll, which I do, and I've also updated Directx with the latest version from last month.
Here is what the error log says:
    Traceback (most recent call last):
      File "SC4Terraformer.py", line 1, in ?
      File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 78, in load_module
      File "SC4TerraformerApp.pyo", line 83, in ?
      File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 78, in load_module
      File "terraTools.pyo", line 16, in ?
File "Image.pyo", line 1717, in open
IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'datas/mask.png'

Any idea what could be causing this?

    centauri

Do you have the file in question ? maybe you have deleted subfolders of SC4TF ?

This is not related to DX or any missing dlls as the v1.0c does not need something more than the previous one, try to reinstall SC4TF 1.0c after cleaning the folder, or unzip it in a new folder to test

Thnx ! have a nice terraforming day !

    wouanagaine,
I figured out what I did wrong, when I unzipped the file the option 'Include original path' wan't checked. After turning that on SC4 Terraformer works just fine.
    Thanks for the help.

Downloaded it, unzipped it, tried to run it. It tells me to check the logfile. So I check it and it says this:

    Traceback (most recent call last):

    File "SC4Terraformer.py", line 1, in ?

    File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 78, in load_module

    File "SC4TerraformerApp.pyo", line 3, in ?

    File "zipextimporter.pyo", line 91, in load_module

    ImportError: MemoryLoadLibrary failed loading tools3D.pyd

The library .zip is corrupted as well. Any suggestions?

    hello wouanagaine,

i recently donwloaded SC4 TF, and got a message that the DirectX was in use. which wasnt. i updated my DirectX to okt 2006 version and now it works fine, i thought you would like to know. so if it isnt in use, and SC4 TF says it is, update your DirectX.

also, when i got that error, my log file was empty.

    Thx Meastro

It is normal the log file was empty as I catch the error, the log file contains information when something I have not take into account happen.

Originally the message was written 'Update DirectX', but some users notice that if another program use DirectX in exclusive mode, the message pop up even if they have the correct updated version. So as the error in the code is reported in the same way, I changed the message to reflect it.

    Thx !

Hello, I would like to create/edit a region to have cities bigger than the "large" size (4 tiles)

I have downloaded "SC4TF" and "Landscape Designer". Landscape Designer only let me create small, medium and large cities, and SC4TF will take me a few days to understand how to use it...So for now, I would like some quick help please on how to make a city with as many tiles as I want it.

Sorry for my english and I hope I made my request clear since I have been reading a lot on these forums and I couldn't find the answer to my problem. Maybe because I am new to this terraforming stuff and I don't know where to begin with. So I though I would start with already made regions editing cities' sizes to have a lot of space to build hehe 17.gif

Well, thanks for your time and help,

    Jose 11.gif

It's not Landscape Designer that doesn't let use bigger cities than Large. It's the game that don't accept bigger city.

In other words it is NOT possible to make bigger city.

@DemonHunter If I understand correctly, you are wanting to build a region of larger than 4 large tiles.  To do this you must do some setup first before you go into SC4TF.

    1. Open your regions folder
    2. Create a new folder within your regions folder
    3. Then create a bitmap with Paint.  Use Red 1x1 pixels for small city tiles, Green 2x2 pixels for medium city tiles and Blue 4x4 pixels for large city tiles.  You can make your bitmap any size, but be warned once you start getting in the range of 48x48 pixels (12x12 large city tiles) your map will become very hard to work on when handterraforming due to lag.
    4. Save your new bitmap you just created as config.bmp in the folder you have just created.
    5. Now you are able to open this new region folder in SC4TF and it will be your custom size and blank terrain.  Have fun!

@Vester_DK  Right now you are right, there are many unknown exemplars, but with enough trail and error if someone wants to do it we may find one that controls the size of city map attributed to a certain color (for example one day it may be able to say 6x6 tiles could be represented by 6x6 Blue pixels)  But unfortunately noone has found that exemplar and probably noone ever will if it exsists.

Well I have nothing much to add

For a 6x6 tiles city, it may be possible by editing the savegame, but I think the config.bmp color to city size is hard coded, and I really think that the 256x256 tile map for large city is also hard coded

Anyway, even on top modern PC, a large city lag, so who will want to make it bigger ?

Thanks for your answer, but it's just like vester_DK said. I want to create a 6x6 pixel city which means a bigger city instead of a bigger region.

Thanks again and sorry if I couldn't make myself understand better.

@wouanagaine: What does "hard coded" mean? That it will be hard to work with? if it is even hard for you to do then don't bother explaining since it will be impossible for me 8.gif

The reason I want to create a bigger city is because last time I played, I remember having a large city all zoned and I was a little pissed since I couldn't reach limits like, the last electricity building, and zone all of the rewards that I have. The city was really zoned everwhere and I don't remember having "lag". What do you mean by lag? I just got a new Geforce 7600 so it should be even better now, right?

    Thanks to you too wouanagaine!

PS: To be continued, got to go to sleep cause i am dead tired xD

Have a question. I want to raise the level of my region as it's too close to water level to allow the Hole digging lots to work. I tried using change water level, but still couldn't use the hole diggers. I assume they are configured to have a min depth they dig to (250) and my ground level is 259, so they don't work.

I then tried raise ground level, and raised it by 15, which left all my roads, buildings etc underground. Was a very interesting effect. I only had textures, but everything worked still. Not sure what the outcome would have been in the long run though.

Any idea how to get the ground level higher without this problem?

DemonHunter => I mean it is in the exe not in the datas, so it can't be done from a modding point of view, we need the source code

For lagging issue, it depends on the number of plugins you have and if you have change the pathinding system that come with NAM and otther factors, the Graphic card will help but it is not a major factor

Neddiggis => I hope you're familiar with Ilive reader and examplar manipulation

If still you have the 'change water level' option, your SC4TF version is quite old 4.gif. But in this particular case it will be helpfull. If you havn't already built the way you tried by raising the region was the good choice, but as you already built you need to do some ilive reader tweaking

So first set water level in SC4TF to whatever suits your region ( 259 - ( at least the biggest hole digging lot depth + 1 ) ), now you can see if the region is still ok to be playable

    I suppose it is ok

Now you will need to edit the terrain properties examplar ( TGI = 0x6534284a 0x88cd66e9 0x000000001 ) and change the SeaLevel property( 0x48CD7B21 ) => save the examplar to a new file, do not overwrite simcity_1.dat

If you use original maxis terrain parameters ( no cycledogg or any import plugins ) you will find this examplar in simcity_1.dat

if you use a custom terrain , you will have to search for it in the plugin dat and modify the same property

    Take care

Hey, this is a fantastic tool, thanks very much for making it. I just wanted to suggest that you should note somewhere in the download page or in the help file that pops up when you launch the program that when you unzip the program you need to "Include original path" or "use complete path" or whatever in the unzipping program. I ran into much frustration when everything unzipped to one folder, and it took me quite a bit of futzing to figure it out. Just trying to save others the confusion.

its a shame i cant search within this topic.....i cant get the program to start. ive looked in the readme file and nothing on my problem... when the program loads it asks me to choose a folder and to browse for the regions folder. i tried using the one that is given and the program just stops responding. i tried the other folder in the my documents folder and same problem the program stops responding. the stop responding info doesnt not appear in the task manager. windows pops up the "end now" box when i go and shut down or restart. please help. just a side note what happened to the terrain generator that was on this site like 2 years ago
