most likely cause was that you were missing a file required by SC4TF that VS2005 installed on your system.

embersofme

the Library.zip is not a true ZIP archive. that's why it wont open in any unzipper program. it's just a library of information that the program can draw from whenever needed. just because an unzipper says it's a corrupt zip doesn't mean the file is actually corrupt.

nevir's unexpected solution gave me an idea. have you downloaded and installed the DLL file that is mentioned in the readme?

you're right. I had assumed that since the app didn't give a dll-is-missing alert, I had it installed. So, unless it comes on a fresh install of server 2k3, I didn't have mscvp71.dll.

ok, so we have one possible solution to the tools3D.pyd error. check for msxvp71.dll, as the readme states.

%SYSTEMROOT%\system32. that's from the instructions for installing the file, found on the webpage that the file is located on.

Hey Everyone,

The readme file is absolutely right - some users DO need the msvcp71.dll file.  Thought I had downloaded it installed it, but I was wrong.

Downloading and installing it solved the problem.

embersofme:  Go to the website linked in the readme file, and download this driver.  In the zip archive, there is a readme file that tells you to install it to c:\windows\system directory.  If you use Windows XP, you can put it in the c:\windows\system32 folder.

You do not need to uninstall/reinstall after installing the above driver file.

It turns out 3DEM as well as World Machine use TerraGen's file format (http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/dev/tgterrain.html). It may prove useful to read-write Terragen if it can be slipped in on a future date. This would save pain on reading DEM format directly, since it appears DEM needs to be manipulated by something like 3DEM anyway. TerraGen's format uses vertexes, matching SC4's (N*64)+1 format and it is 16 bpc.
