Stupid Pictures won't appear

I wasn't entirely sure where to post this, so I chose the general area...

My pictures don't appear. In topics like "Show us your city's pictures" and the likes, all I get are small squares with that annoying little sign in it. Does anyone know what I should do? This is killin' me!

Upload the picture to an Image hosting site such as Imageshack or imgcity. Choose the "Direct Link" to the image and then put [*IMG] before the link and [*/IMG] after the link, remove the asterisks as I have only posted these to avoid the code disappearing. Post the link with the code mentioned above before and after it and it should work. Alternatively you could just pick the "Direct Link" to the image, click the picture which looks like a mountain and the sun above the Reply box and just post the link directly into the URL box. The picture should then appear.

Remember to keep all images 800x600 or less.

Sorry, I guess I explained faultily. I meant other people's pictures, those that other ST users have uploaded to their messages and topics - THEY don't appear. I thought it was something to do with my Internet browser, but I'm not sure...

are you on dialup? some if those pictures are too large to show up dialup. once the page has loaded, right click each picture and select show picture. this way, your browser wont be bogged down by trying to download large chunks of data at once.

if the posts are from 2005, the pictures will be gone. pictures were lost in the Simtropolis upgrade.

have you tried clearing your browser cache and dumping temp internet files - then rebooting or at least restarting the browser?

Actually, I have intermediary DSL internet connection, which has temporarily been bumped up to high-speed for the summer. Also, the pics I'm trying to look at are older, from 2003 I think.

if the pics are older than 2006, there's a high chance they wont show up. a lot of things were lost in the simtropolis upgrade. if they're severely important, you could post in that thread or PM the author of the posts to see if he or she still has those pictures somewhere.

The thread I'm mentioning (though this applies to pretty much all picture topics around the site and other sites as well) is the "fun screen shots" at the top of the General Discussion, and I do see a few pictures that appear. It's that most of them don't appear for reasons I still can't figure out. At least some appear, and they're older than 2006, so it can't be the thread itself...

It seems that certain codes provided by imageshack and others compress down to 1x1 pixels in Internet Explorer on the new website.  In those cases, the author has to actually specify the dimensions of the image in question.  

Ironically enough the same images work just fine in Firefox.  I've encountered the same problem on occasion.

Internet Explorer doesn't display PNG images properly on ST. Here, they get reduced to the 1x1 size that Battlecat mentioned. FireFox handles such images on this site differently.
