This thread has been created for the sole purpose of the SimCity Aviation Group for general discussion, development and showcasing.  Comments and feedback are welcome.

This thread is for Discussion, Development and Showcasing of all SimCity Aviation Group projects; if there are any problems with our current (or future) releases, you may also point them out here.

    Oh, sorry about Linux, but as long as you've got manual it's okay.  And don't mind the old logo, I had a misunderstanding between two ST members.  Auto install is not designed to work on Linuzx, and I question Mac computers on this.

    hmm, just a thought, could you extract the files ones needs to modify to make new skinns for planes. Id like to have a go at reskinning them. but i dont know of any of this extracting, importing buisness, so if i got a template to make them from, then sent you an .jpg, could you convert it into a .fishy-file and get it into the game??

    Id like the templates for the following planes:

    Civil Four-Prop (DC6/L-188(its a crossover)

    Military Four-Prop (C-130 Hercules)

    Business Jet (Rockwell Sabreliner 40)

    Regional Midjet (BAe 146-200 / Avro RJ85 (name changed 1993))

    Jumbo Jetliner (Boeing 707-120)

    Widebody Jetliner (Boeing 767-200)

    As these are the jets id like to reskin. if possible, could i have the extrected files in .jpg or .bmp format(jpg's would be easier since there smaller).

    You could then uppload these as a pack or something. The il skin them to the follwing airlines: Evarin Airways, Vanair, TSA(The Shogunates Airguard, only the C-130)

    If you want to email them thats fine, but you will have to PM me so i can give you my real Email.

    Those who have missed it, im currently working on a ATCT, and some Construction-lots. Then i will start to model a new Entrancehall, a large one(6x8 tiles) and a councource to go with it(in the same type of style) although the concource wont be a full-package. I most likley wont release corners and such, so they will only work for a straight line. Both will be losley based on Dubais Int airport.(Roof/walls) but will feature things like viewing spots and a nice large skywindow.

    Il post some pics later, atm there are some up in my AJ!

    I don't know how to do that (yet), but I'll be soon asking fukuda about this.  For now, it's just the plane mods they have now.  You can use the current mods, and for the 4-prop, use the YS-11 mod as a base dat but extract the fsh from the SimCity1.dat.  To extract the fsh file, see VesterDK's Google Journal.

    Oops, misunderstanding.  Just get to Vester's Google Journal and you'll be fine from there.  However, for the Rockwell Sabreliner 40, there currently arem't any mods for that, so you'll have to find its DIR file yourself, finding the FSH files is no problem, cause when you go to mats and change the texture, a new FSH file will be automat, as it has a different instance number.

    Anyway, to find the old Maxis textures in SimCity1.dat, click Instance and you'll see it get sorted by numerical order.  Instances for each plane:

    Small Prop: 10920000

    Mid Prop: 10930000

    707: 10940000

    767: 10950000

    Small Jet: 10960000

    Midjet: 10970000

    Then use an original plane mod that or make on yourself

    Muzzy, if you wanna join, you're in.  Your ATCT qualifies.  Welcome to the team, man!

    I'm gonna make a poll here regarding the ATCT pack... Sorry, Muzzy, your ATCT won't make it because there's only gonna be 3 in the pack, but who cares when yours is already released?

    Pilotdaryl, i found it, il try some over the weekend probably. Also im "babysitting" my sister and her entire class on saturday *sigh* gonna make sure that they dont get to drunk :/ and chase off any evil people ^^ hah!

    and play louder music than there doing, just to be a pain.

    So i dont think il get much done over the weekend. maby on sunday, but im preliminary takin that day for my journal, i want a more major update to it since its been so long since i updated it, but i will showcase some of the construction-modles there.

    Muzzy: So we work together once again ^^ *Yay* Are you thinking of working on anything special?

    Woah, thanks for this opportunity. I always like improving upon my BAT skills, so being in this group with other BATters, and the fact that it specialises on an area that interests me, should help me improve a lot!

    Xiziz: I'm working on a terminal just now. I originally intended it to be just for personal use, but if it turns out as planned, I will most likely release it on the STEX.

    I'm not a good BATter, but I have been working on the ATCT, and it is not of good quality (As of now) but trust me, when its complete it'll be good.  It's one of my most advanced projects yet, and with the help of Phillipbo's tutorial, and some others, I'm sure it'll turn out good after, though I'm not a good BATter at all.

    After the new ATCT, my main project will be on my UK signs, so I won't be in the airport business that much after this.

    Most of it is not textured yet, and some grass is needed around the model to gain shadows and not only that, I need to work with the nightlights.

    So you can see, texturing is complete, all I have to do now is nightlights, export, Plugin manager, lot, modding, in-game, Nicholson update on Forsyth with the tower, and away we go.

    That's excellent! Can't wait to see the finished product in your AJ.

    I've had a few ideas on what isn't essential, but BATs of them would make nice details:
    Cargo Centre,
    Airport Fire Station,
    Airport Security/Police Station,
    Ground Service Equipment (GSE).

    I'll try some of them, and if anyone else want to take stuff on it would be great!

    Daryl: nice, though, did you make the lot in BAT? and seeing how you seem to have copied sc4 textures for the ground, isnt it just easier and nicer to just export the model and fix it up in LE, since its a lot less time consuming than to bat things like trees to use the existing propa 2.gif

    Might want to darken the texture on the ATCT aswell, the control room at the top will be so bright it will look like a light ingame. Maby adding some details like Gutters and a small guard or ledge at the top of the building around the roof(to interupt the line inbetween the wall and roof)

    The roof-part on the Controlroom i think is a bit to thick, might be worth thinning it down a bit(looks like a 2m concrete slab ontop of the building right now.

    Yeah, thats a great idea.

    A Maintanance Hall would be something to add aswell, Maby Fuildepots(Im gonna try my hands on these soon enough).

    The firestation is more of a Emergency station though, they usually have an ambulance or two aswell.

    Also, i struck some problems, actually two problems with the planes.

    #1, the major one, here a picture, since it explains it all, i think something got screwed with the Alpha channel.

    The wings and Tail are well... screwed badly, also the other side of the tail is seethrough, which isnt to good. I used your Westjet as a base for this skin.

    Im going to do the 707 and the 4prop aswell i though, but if i get results like this its not worth even making them. Then id be better of actually bating the aircraft and texturing them.

    Also, as i noticed, the text on jets(Like the text "westjet" on the westjet skin) there mirrored and its unreadable on the opposite side. is there anyway around this?

    As it seems your models are also mirrored.

    Thanks for the comments on the tower, guys.  I had to take the SC4 texture because of shadow problems.

    Xiziz:  By the looks of it, it is an alpha problem.  There is an easy way, though.  Here's what I did with MS Paint, no problemo: Cover up all the black on the plane with white, then make the background color white.  After that, turn it to greyscale, and invert colors.  There you have an alpha map!  And you don't need photoshop for this.

    For the text problem, sorry but it can't be fixed.

    About "The other side of the plane is seethrough": It even happens with the default planes.

    Daryl: Ok, i will try to do that when i get time to. Im gonna prioritise to get the next update for Sim International Airport ready and released. but for now i got a new picture of SIX ATCT.

    I Added some vents, changed the windowtexture and slimmed down the girders even more(to show more of the structure behind) I Also added the basic measurments, its going to sit on a 2x2 lot, touching all sides of the lot.

    hey pilotdaryl nice to see some progress being made here.

    unfortuantly i wont be able to help out in anyway as i am busy preparing for univeristy, enjoying my summer and tied up with an airport project elsewhere so i would like to leave the team (as i saw my name mentioned in the title) ~ i wouldnt want to get people confused ^_^

    Aww, that's too bad.  However, there is an option where you can still be a member, but "un-active", when you're on another project or something, that means no need to leave, you can stay and be un-active.

    Being un-active means it's like you are not a member anymore until you declare yourself active again.

    But if you wanna quit instead, fine with me.

    I declare myself un-active because I'll be working on the Stradmont Underground Freeway System.  However I will still check this thread and reply, though I won't be working on airports for a while.  The only thing I'll do un-active is release my ATCT on the STEX.  After that, it's roadgeek time.

    Thanks Daryl, i got it working, and just uploded 2 pictures with the new skinn into my AJ.

    As soon as the 707 & 767(the one that never sits still... visible on the old airport packs) is done i will release "Evarin Airways" onto the stex.

    I will then make "Vanair" with the 4prop and Bizjet.

    Great looking planes you've got there!  A COMPLETE SET of plane automata re-skins.  The age of reskinned planes has come!

    I guess the action movie fans will like my next plane, though.

    PROBLEM: One of the RMIP tiles is mirrored.

    Hey, im back, with new skinns for the Boing 707 & DC6(4prop), Also i reskinned the Avro RJ85 again to fit the sheme of the other two jets.

    Daryl, while at it i fixed that tile... im actually baffled by the fact that i didnt notice it before you, as i usually do know of all of the flaws on the pictures i upload, especially for CJ's(Aj in this case). I Guess a 40 hour work-week really changes people's preception when your tierd and wasted all the time.

    Fukuda, Well, im hoping to move over to models at a later stage, i want to se the Saab2000, Tu154 and the A310 ingame, though they will probably feature as Props rather than automata, so that they dont replace the existing jets, as i dont know a workaround for having multiple skins for the existing jets(which would be soo great)

    All of these Jets are Evarin Airways, and are skinned likewise. Vanair will use a different sheme and preferably only use Saab2000's.

    Bedtime again now... i ended up playing around in sc4... made a "crap" city which bloomed into a metropolis that actually looked good even though i spent all of the time at the second furthest zoom just zoning away.

    That's cool.

    I'm still being a roadgeek for now, so Oceanic will be delayed.

    I'm also planning on making a new airline, maybe name it South Barnston Air, I'll do the midprop.

    You can have those planes as automata, however it is really hard to do.  And also, they still have to replace a plane.  I hope fukuda gets done with his "Multiple skins for jets" mod soon so we can get going with new plane types.

    Yeah, but if a make them into a propfamily i could place them into a special lot and have a random skin of a certain type of aircraft(ex the Tu154). OC they would all have to be skinned and exported seperatly from Gmax, but it is possble to do and when i get some spare time im going to experiment around with the idea.

    The hard part is getting them to line up nicly with jetways, because i think il have to remodel the entire jetway-lots for it. And one might even have to make a custom LOD so that the jetway will show up correctly when placed close to the jet.

    But first im gonna finish my ATCT and my Concource/Viewingpoint and Terminal Three Main Hall.
