Mini skyscrapers?   Can you show us pictures of your cities?

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

I could be wrong, but i've heard that putting rewards and civic buildings help stimulates the city's growth.

Plus no matter how many buildings you plop, building a megalopolis takes time.

How old are your cities?

You could reduce the amount of zoned land so the buildings have no choice but to build ,upwards .Maybe the demand you have for CO$$+$$$ is not enough for the bigger buildings , be sure to zone dense Comercial 3v3, 4v4 or custom, make sure you have enough water and Dense CO like lots of traffic . A good way to ensure that the demand you have for CO isnt filtered away is by using the make historical tool. Create demand in your other cities until demand for CO is full ,then return to your CO city and watch the towers rise..Also make sure your not near stage caps . as jdr says it does take a lot of time and a bit of planning .

Well, for openers you are about 900,000 Sims short.  Your pop should be about double the number of jobs.  Slightly more, say 2.2 Sims per job since you have normal core families.

I would also recommend doing a SEARCH through the forums using the keyword "skyscrapers." Your question has been asked and adequately answered many times before.

I get skyscrapers but it takes a lot of time and work to do that. I mean in such high populations there are "mini" ones(residential) but the difficult part is to establish the commercial as base for your main economy source.

1. To give your commercial a bigger chance of surviving just zone much more than normal as your city grows.

2. To secure their place in their world you must have high education levels, good health, low crime rate and a suitable place to advance your commercial skyscrapers(that means excellent transportation that connects the residential with commercial in the city chaos).

3.Finally, watch your desirability panel so that you zone commercial in the right place where it's needed the most.

Hope you find this information at least something...

There are a number of things to check. First would be the zone types, make sure you have zoned some high density commercial zones so that those larger buildings can start to appear. Secondly check the number of commercial office jobs, IIRC you need (by default maxis numbers) ~45,000 Co

When you use superdemand, does that extra demand carry over into other cities as well? I somewhat doubt it, but I'd like to hear others' experiences. My own feeling is that the other cities see the superdemand city's vast amount of, say, commercial office and think that there's plenty of it going around so demand tends to stay compensatingly low unless you correspondingly superdemand commercial office in that city too.

Thats odd. Cause ive always gotten my first stage8 building by about R pop 30,000 in a region. That always makes me go bug eyed..seeing stage 8s appear in new regions so early..but they do.

JohnMK: I'm not sure as I haven't tested that however I believe it will carry over to some extent much the same way that normal demand carries over.

To all: If you're tired of seeing the "downtown hole" effect of having stage 8 residential buildings before stage 8 commercial buildings, Toroca has made a wonderful mod that fixes the caps. You can find it here. The mod includes 2 seperate files for fixing either commercial or residential. In addition you can combine both for the most realistic effect.
