Ploppable lighting

Hi, All,

Unfortunately I do not have the knowledge to do what I want - but hope that someone might be able to assist or even make for everyone to share.

In the same manner that you can plop seperate trees (and indeed cowpats - thanks for that Andreas - I still can't help but to raise a smile) is it possible that someone can do streetlighting in the same way - I want to build a footpath but put street lighting where I wish.  I think it would also be useful in many other places.

Hope this sparks someones creative imagination and I am sure I am not alone...

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction tag_one. Did a search for lighting but only dawned on me today to look for a tutorial on plops LOL. Working a lot lately so won't have much chance to play or learn but I promise I'll post my result on the STEX when I have them...

First of all, I have read the entire tutorial by Andreas, that explains, how make a tree model, a plop.

But after doing all the modding etc, they don't appear in the Mayor Tree menu @ SC4

    Any help or advice?

Making ploppable street lights available from the Tree Menu probably won't work. The various ploppable trees that have been made use the "Resource Type Key 1" property. The Maxis street light props use the "Resource Type Key 4"  property, which attaches the light cones/globes to the street lights. I don't know if it is possible to use the "Resource Type Key 4" property with ploppable objects from the Tree Menu, but I suspect it isn't possible. If it is possible, I will gladly accept being corrected.

Well, you can use certain light cone props in the LE, with (a) certain mod/modds from the STEX, so, I don't see why it won't be possible, according to the poster above(unless I am not looking deep enough...).

But, yeah, that would be an AWESOME thing.

I guess you could take the streetlight prop and change the "Resource Type Key 4" property to a "Resource Type Key 1" one, but then, you'll lose the light cone, obviously. Apart from that, Swamper77 is right, I guess - "Resource Type Key 4" props can't be used in the Mayor Mode menu (or in God Mode), that's why seasonal trees don't work there as well.

What are the mayor-mode tree exemplars? Props, lots or else sth special?

It's not hard at all to test if the Resource Type Key 4 property finally works or not.

Thanks for all your responces so far - and to be graced by the SimGod that is Andreas - I feel privileged 4.gif

Does the menu make a difference at all ? Was thinking more of the [already bigtime bulging] parks menu as I need them more for pathways tbh

Working overnight tonight so going to try to have a read up on making a plop if workload allows...

wow, this would be cool. i meddled with trying to make light cones, and had no success, but i was under the assumption that ANY prop was ploppable. you may not be able to plop a light pole and a light cone in one plop, but you may be able to just plop the light cone or the light pole by themselves

Actually if its any help the drive for me to do this is found in a single pic in the CJ The Tropics Of Haalu (excellent CJ ThePeoplesPerson) (https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=36&threadid=77433) - goto page 5 - about 3/4 of the way down there are some shots of Atlantic Drive - its the walkways edging onto the seafront that I want to emulate (can most likely be done with pedestrian walkways out of the NAM) but I want the ability to plot lights as and where I want them !

OK Peeps - I didn't get much research done last night - those damn customers kept calling me all night long (I'm in computer support).

Managed to download, install and play with all the tools I can see I'll need (DatGen, Reader, etc.) but trying to find even a complete noobs foothold in any of the tutorials is proving me to be a complete doofus !

I read the post that tag_one pointed me to about ploppable trees and been through the Datgen and iLive reader basics and scanned a few other tutorials I thought might be of use.

From those I can see the best way is to copy and amend an already existing work effectively BUT thats where I fall flat on my face - can't even suss how to do that [blushes an alarming shade of red 43.gif] - help !

I can see in Datgen that by using the Easytweaker plugin I can set all sorts of things for props or buildings but that didn't work when I did it but I'll persevere... found x19 lamppost models in the core dats that come with the original release and RH so wanted to have a very small police influence and YIMBY effect on the lights which looks do-able...

I'd love to be able to make this a reality and share it on the STEX... and who knows what else I could achieve after that but doofus and do-able seem to be a bad mix... HELLLLPPP - please !
