Alright folks, I have a newbie question:

I'm trying to make a downtown with the high builidings. What i did was I made  medium-comercial in the middle of the city with a lot of traffic across from the medium-comercial zoning, But no tall buildings appeared.. What can I do to make a downtown with tall buildings? THanks so much.

Also another question:

Can i make one big new city in the region to provide electricity to all the other cities in the region. If so how do I do this?

Thanks ! 48.gif

For your downtown question: If you want the real tall buildings, you'll have to zone high density. Also, have you got enough people living in your city so that the jobs can be filled??? Also, watch your commute time. If the commute time is too long, you won't get any skyscrapers. Does the area have water, fire coverage, police coverage etc. That can be helpful as well. Put some parks as well in the commercial area. That gives the desire to build buildings a boost.

For your other question: You can, but you have to connect power lines to every city to get it to another city. When you did that, you have to make power deals.

Hope that helped!

The really big buildings don't start growing until your population is large (atleast 100 000 I think) AND you have demand that is high enough to necessitate the construction of these buildings.

    Wait, Population of 100,000 in the region or city... Getting 100,000 in a single city in the region would be really difficult for me. But 100,000 in the region makes more sense so tell me please?

    this is how i usually make a stable and productive downtown area:

    u can have it in a region or a city. i would not make everything in one city. for a region, u have to make it so that the city u want the skycrapers are "fed" with commuters from neighbors. if u want the top of ur downtown to rise in elevation, ur gonna have to bring up the Educated and Healthy middle class residents cuz they are the bulk of the workers for CS$$/CS$$$. in other neighbor cities, u can make a slum city for the poor sims and dirty industry, industrial center for manufacturing and high tech, and high wealth in suburbs.

    u need a certain number of commercial jobs, as a base,and yes they can b in neighbors too. if u do the above, u will have a huge demand for CO and CS.  the CO will be needed in ur downtown and the CS has to go somewhere... just make ur neighbor's commercial as low density, and make the downtown high density. the downtown area just needs plazas, water, power, police, and optional fire protection [for arson or abandonment]... regarding traffic, the area should b swarming with commuters [cars n mass transit[, but not congested.  intersections can b red, but arterials that connect areas shouldn't b.  [yellow is ok, orange is pushing it]

    finally u can tax accordingly to force-discourage the wealth classes u don't want in ur cities, so the demand goes where u want it.

    CO = Commercial Office

    CS = Commercial Service

    The $ signs indicate what wealth level it is so $ is Low wealth, $$ is Medium wealth and $$$ is High Wealth.

    Yes, to get skyscrapers you need at least 44,000 Sims in your city to get stage 7 and 8 buildings (4% and 1% respectively).  And you have to have the appropriate balance of Sims to take the jobs.  They have to be educated and ready.  You also need sufficient parks, low pollution, etc., etc.

    Patience.  New York wasn't built in a day.

    You only need about 16,000 people for taller buildings to begin appearing, but for the tallest buildings you need a significant regional population. I don't know the exact number, but is probably outlined well in the official SC4 Deluxe game guide.

    (well, this is what I read3.gif)
