Hey jcruizcoll, great to see the interest lies in other countries for our landmarks and architecture as well! Thanks for the comment. As daniel01 said, they currently don't exist on the STEX. You can find the Sydney Opera House, and the DeutscheBank building from Sydney also, but as for other landmarks, we are looking pretty scarce. Hopefully, we are building a network of Aussie BATters willing to get these developments off the ground and into the STEX. For now, I hope you enjoy this thread, I will be posting some more pics of Aussie landmarks and architecture soon.

OK OK I know, it's about time I had some pics to back up what I've been going on about for the past 6 months or so. Well, here are the first in my series. I am starting with Sydney, not due to any First State favouritism or any other factor, but purely because it's the city I know well, and it seems the easiest to start with.

In this post, I have included pictures of Chifley Square, which sits on the north eastern end of central Sydney, just before the Quay, and about one or two streets in from the Botanical Gardens. Chifley Square is an interesting and important landmark building, as well as being home to a number of big name businesses. The architecture is unique, as far as I am aware (let me know otherwise) and involves a fusion of styles and textures. It forms an important link between Centrepoint (AMP) Tower and the harbour, and from the north-east (ie, from the harbour) the eye can wander along the skyline to Chifley Tower, then down to the mid-rise buidlings and the Quay itself, followed by the Opera House, finally framing the harbour and bridge.

Enjoy the pictures, and if any questions, go ahead and ask!

BTW, how about some smaller ideas that create Australia much easier? ie. football and cricket ovals. Thesdale did have a few attempts, but they were waaay too small and out of scale. I did make some cricket pitch textures in 3 versions: astroturf, 1 unmarked pitch, and a fuller square wicket, to use with grass and fences in smaller suburban and reacreation ovals.

Here is a screeny from a while ago:

    http://forum.toaoclan.net/files/newcastle-26_mar.__231161914073_386.png

So anyway, I was hoping someone would be able to a basic oval of about 10 by 9 tiles or so with a wicket in the middle. I just don't have any clue with gmax and failed to even make a pitch model in there (so I just made them a texture as I said).

Cheers for the comment, Duvad, but I'll just point out this isn't a BAT wishlist. Hopefully your idea will become reality. The main focus of this thread is architecture, because we have a distinct style, and I feel it would be a boon for Australian cities to be recognised in game form in Sim City, as it is, after all, a world game (as Simtropolis and SimCityForce among others prove to us each and every day), so better world representation rather than three versions of American Architecture.

I know someone's working on a Cricket Pitch with associated buildings. The oval will be textures (like the Soccer Oval) not a BAT model. Note that we need to reduce large objects to make them more "game realistic"; look at the airports.

Hmm all seems to have gone quiet as people contemplate what future Sim Cities may spawn... Personally, I have been looking forward to it, in the hope that they will finally recognise world architecture, and allow the mayors the chance to create world regions, and all that would entail, however, I now have doubts... No matter which route they take, they are definitely going to be limiting some or other area of SC, and if that infringes on the basics that we take for granted it will be painful. It would be great if they could allow it to accept the same models, or resized models that we use for BAT now in the program, but then again, we want a little bit of change: Skyline views, Building permissions (allow/deny option), and all those types of transportation to make our mega cities hum, rather than crawl and complain and die ... Anyway, relevance to this thread is that Australian Architecture, in whatever form, is definitely going to have to be incorporated either into the game or as an expansion pack. I can see it now, Sim City 5 comes out, followed by a number of continentally themed expansions: Downunder Digs Expansion, Eurostyle expansion, African Architecture Arcade, etc, and expansions of a different style: The Future of Five expansion, the Ancient Egyptian expansion, Babylonian Bliss, War-torn Europe, Renaissance Riverside, and so on... SO many possibilities, and the Downunder Digs would showcase Australia's best, most unique, most distinct, and most notorious buildings - from every state and territory! With each expansion comes a new map, maybe, and the downunder map includes major Aussie Cities, and Antarctic territories as a challenge for future Mayors. Anyone else with me on this front? Just rambling, as I got to thinking about Australia's involvement in future SC ventures...

OK well here goes - with the assistance of the guys at Skyscrapercity.com I have some pics of Wollongong for y'all to see. Here are some examples of modern Australian East Coast architecture. I hope to build a bigger gallery as there are a few designs which would look great in-game...

    They are, in order:

The aerial view of street layouts in city centre,

One of the new buildings (name unknown)

    New building called, 'Aqua'

    Another new building

    Wollongong City Hospital

    Wollongong City Council Chambers

    Wollongong Harbour

The new station development proposal (artist's vision)

Two new mid-rise developments have been announced for Wollongong and they appeared in the local paper this week. As soon as I get a scan, I will add the pictures to this thread! About time this city got up and running... Meanwhile I haven't forgotten the dedication to buildings in and around Sydney, I have plenty of pics to show everyone, and just need to find some time to upload them all... In the meantime, I hope you are enjoying the pics of the buildings around my hometown. Cheers everyone!

Just a short message to say Merry Christmas to all of you, and that I hope you all get the presents you want! I hope to enjoy our summer Christmas this year, though it looks set to rain here on Christmas Day. Some of you in colder climes may need some of the sunshine so I guess one year of rain won't hurt 4.gif

Anyway, enjoy the festive season, and hope to see you here in the New Year and to greet you with some progress on the Aussie Architectural front.

    Peace.

Quick Note: There has been NO progress on the Aussie architectural front.. .Looks like we have no desire to share our architecture with the world... I am still struggling with BAT, but I have put it on Hiatus: I figure if there's going to be a new game anyway, I'll hang out for that as I have too much on my plate right now. Anyway, sorry guys who have been excited at the prospect, but it's not going to happen single-handedly here... Hopefully we won't have to wait long for Sim City 5 and its world architecture... (fingers crossed).

to the person who said that melbourne's architecture was a mish-mash and to get there act together, obviously doesnt know what he is talking about. It is called STYLE and VARIETY. Melbourne has a healthy mixed of federation and older buildings such as Melbourne Exhibition Centre 1800's.(built with 6million bricks). there are a few art deco buildings scattered around the city such as Rivoli Cinemas - which is world renowned, the suburbs for which melbourne is famous are fulll of old victorian houses, californian bungalos which vary greatly in their design, and there are growing numbers of ultra modern residences.

The city has undergone a building boom with the Docklands becoming a premier district with numerous modern apartment buildings going up and massive buildings to hold the NAB and ANZ. the CBD and Southbank is home to some of the best looking buildings.

so before you critisise melbourne for being 'mish-mash' get your act together and research your facts! have you ever actually lived in melbourne?

And as for your claim of Sydney being so much better than Melbourne once again look at your facts. Melbourne has been voted most livable city twice and come secoind 3 times. and why did it beat Syndey i wonder??? It is laid out, has navigatable streets, as a much lower crime rate and overall as voted and shown by hard facts Melbourne is better than Sydney.

If Sydney was sooooo much better than Melbourne then why was Melbourne chosen to be the country captial in 1901?? Melbourne was also established as a city and planned out opposed to Sydney which just spread like a virus along the edges of the harbour.

LOL, hit a raw nerve there. I am so sorry, I didn't realise I was meant to live in a city before I formed an opinion on how it looks. My observations were written purely as that, my observations as a visitor. I did not laud Sydney over Melbourne apart from a little tongue-in-cheek humour, but if you felt so urged to write such a vitriolic and defensive response, then so be it. I don't particularly care either way about capitals etc, I just like what I like about a city and make no excuse for that. If you disagree you have every right to, but please don't bring argument for argument's sake to my thread.

I have now re-read the whole thread, and I must say you had absolutely no cause for those comments, jimbojones99. The comment on 'getting their act together' was about Wollongong, my hometown, in this thread. The mish-mash of architecture I will admit was my comment on Melbourne, and it is something that you have shown in your own posting against that idea. I would thank you to leave posts on this site of a 'constructive' nature, rather than 'deconstructive' as we are trying to build an Aussie community on the STEX, something particularly lacking.

Now, if you would like to help put in some way through putting some of Melbourne's fantastic architecture onto the STEX, then you would be doing something to promote that 'STYLE' you seem to see in the city.

Cheers Matt!!! Glad to have you on board, I had lost faith in anyone attempting to BAT Aussie architecture, and so I am very happy to hear that the flag is flying high and proud on the Western Shore! Admittedly, WA is severely underrepresented on the STEX even more so than other states of Australia, and so I look forward to seeing your creations. They look interesting and intriguing.

Thanks again, and hopefully this thread will spur a few more people into action. I  want to get back to learning BAT sometime soon, but will have to wait till after my exams...

Matt_sbs: Great work! I look forward to seeing the screen shots. Don't worry about the time taken - just knowing that people are working on Aussie architecture is a major boon!!! Well done!

Awesome, Towtruck! I am particularly intrigued by Central Station, Sydney - I have been asking for that to be done on the official request thread, over and over, but then gave up hope, with the ultimate goal to try it out myself... That has not happened as free time has been dwindled away from me lately. I do have some pictures of the place, if that will help. Most of them are taken from the web though, anyway... Other than that, I can find out technical details for ya seeing as my dad worked for State Rail...

Great work, and those mid-size stores sound great also!

    Yer thanks Edude,

I think i have plenty of pics go a great aerial one so that will probably help the most.

I am having a problem finding info on the size of the building/exactly how many platforms there are. And also how to put this into the game

I probably will try the westac building and suncorp first
