Ok, I think it's time I put my map skills to use and started contributing to the squad.

So far I have the idea of creating a scale map of Runescape, the online game by Jagex. I am hoping to create it to real scale and trying to get the right terrain elevations whether they be tiny hills or huge mountains. Before I do do it though, I would like to see if you like the idea.

I also have another map in mind which will most probably be created anyway, I just hope that it works out how I'd like it to.

Feedback and suggestions are more than welcome!

Sounds interesting, even though I don't know anything about the game/map you're talking about it still seems like a very good idea. Maybe you could make maps from other games too, that would be a really good idea. It would be cool to see maps from other games in SC4.

Good luck with the maps, I'll be watching this thread.

I can give you the link to it. Look for the world map button to take you to the map I'm talking about.

Comdude: Yeah, that's a great idea! Maybe this could turn into a request thread of my own for 'game' maps so it doesn't clog up the official thread.

Have a look at the Runescape map and report back to me.

Wow, the runescape map. That would be very interesting. It would probably make a nice SC4 map!

Right, I'm having a little trouble on how big I am going to make the Runecape region. Do I make the wwhole huge members world or just the very small non-members world? I'm a non-member and my parents won't allow me to be a member. I'm very familiar with the non-member terrain as well. So my question to all the Mapp Squad...How big do you want me to make this? If you want me to rephrase this post then I will.

I think that if non-member is what you know best, then stick to the non-member. Besides, I looked at the map, the entire members region in SC4 would be disgustingly huge.

It's your map, you can do what you want. Will you include the wild? There isn't much interesting up there (as a map).

Yes, the wilderness will be included, and I think the terrain is the most exciting thing up there. Overall, the terrain is surprisingly bumpy and might be very hard to make...but I'll give my best shot...FOR MAPP SQUAD!!!

Having a few problems actually getting the terrain elevations correct so I am on the verge of ditching the Runescape project...15.gif. Hoping it doesn't come to that. Pics are unnavaliable so I can't show you the problem. The actual terrain is extremely bumpy and is seemingly too hard for me to incorporate into SC4. Maybe if a more experienced Mapp Squad member has the time, they could try and make it. From now on, I will only do fantasy maps when I get the time.

Very sorry about having to ditch the Runescape project...

That's OK. I'm sure that your next project will turn out better, and Runescape was an ambitious project anyhow. Can't wait to see some more stuff from you.

So my runescape project didn't turn out so well, but now I'm ready to try a fantasy map of my own. Radiohead Fan might be pleased about this. I am going to make a region which I will use in my Banana Grove region when I decide to revitalise it. And then I thought hey, why not share it with everyone else. It will still be 4 regions length and width, but I'm sure I can deal with it. I have a few hills and some water in t already and I can post what i have. I also use MayorBean's water mod in case that's a problem. Also, you might not be able to see the hills as trees are in the way. Dunno if you want me to get rid of them.

That's what I'm wondering...hand-terraformed maps can't be uploaded to the STEX, so if that's hand-terraformed(and it looks like it)you'll have to start all over again. I can't wait for the return of Banana Grove!

....right...that is a problem....yes this is hand terraformed. is there a file which has a greyscale or a colour version of the terrain? I could use that if there is. Either that, or I use SCRACC and paint myself a greyscale version of it. Or of something similar. Thanks for pointing that out. I'm on the job!

Oh how I wish there was a file that would allow you to make a greyscale out of a hand made terrain!!!

That would be so wonderful! Unfortunately, though, there's not.

But, good luck on your map! 29.gif

Ok, right now, I'm working on a request for jglei to make a fantasy region and am not completely able to work SCRACC just yet, because what is happening is that all my levels are just becoming plateaus and that is really not a great effect. I don't want to become a dead member so tips will be greatly appeciated. Either that or I will turn to Landscape Desiner, but I'm not sure that that is allowed. Is it allowed?

I don't think there's anything wrong with using Landscape Designer. If you can get the requested map using it (though you may have to do a little tweaking), go for it! 19.gif

I finally found Landscape Designer and tried to get a region 4 medium city tiles long (Think that is what jglei wants) but it went kinda wrong and i got it 2x2 medium tiles long. I have a pic and the terrain is a 'little' bit high.

Unfortunately RHF, I already deleted the region due to the fact that i decided to see if it was buildable on, but found it wasn't, so i got rid of it. Net version is 8x8 cities (hopefully) which is what jglei wants and hope to render it shortly.

Well i need to half the size of the region and I need more mountains to get what jglei wants. But I might release the region anyway if you guys like it.

Ok now my picture doesn't seem to shrink to the size I set it at. (800x411) EDIT: Hopefully resized!!

    Mr Veggie

EDIT: got a region the right size but dunno if this is how jglei701 wants it.

    Mr. Veggie,

That will definately work for me.  I can do some micro terriforming (adding some hills and mountains, etc).  I wanted a new (smaller) region that I could use Cycledogg's new mod with.  I don't tend to create a whole lot of cities, so the smaller size will allow me to use the whole region, instead of just a section of it.

Thanks a ton for doing this for me!
