Looks good! Commercial demand is often horrible in some regions, I have tons like that, no clue what it is though. Strange...

Looking nice. The commercial demand will come up as you build more residential, early on cities don't need much commercial anyway, especially if your population is not well educated.

    well, i used the super demand ordinance, and it helped a ton. here are some recent pictures of amryai:

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/7729/demandmodworking5cs.png align=baseline>

    This was right after the ordinance was passed. The increase in commercial jobs also caused residential demand to increase.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/8263/airportovercrowded16rs.png align=baseline>

    Because of the population boom, Amryai Municipal Airport became overcrowded, and was expanded.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/1043/mediummunicipalairport7py.png align=baseline>

    The expanded Amryai Municipal Airport. By the time AMA's expansion was completed, the population had hit 160,000.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/3914/newgd3ts.png align=baseline>

    Also, since the Demand Ordinance was passed, the Government District has seen a few changes. Not only have several high-rises been built around the area, but a courthouse, Bureau of Beuracracy, and a new Frogface Plaza/Subway Station (thanks for that by the way) have been built.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/9966/bigbuilding0mq.png align=baseline>

    And here are some of the new commercial and residential towers that have been built.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/2276/twintowers5lv.png align=baseline>

    And here's that same area after a few years' more development.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/3628/largemunicipalairport0pg.png align=baseline>

    By now the population had passed 180,000, and AMA had to be upgraded again. Also, just north of the airport you can see the new residential neighborhood.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/1908/graduation2mj.png align=baseline>

    A new university has also been built.

    <ahttp://img162.exs.cx/img162/6391/200000people5zg.png align=baseline>

    This is the most recent picture. The city of Amryai has just reached a population of 200,000 people. The city has had some growing pains, though: like I said earlier, the airport had to be upgraded twice, but also there's now horrible traffic problems, and the bridge is overcrowded (it was mainly only used by freight trucks before). Unfortunately, a larger bridge can't be built, so a ferry service will be starting soon.

    I like the start of your CJ, Amryai200, it's looking good. Don't get downhearted about not getting too many posts, I think most CJ's get that to start with, I almost gave up on mine. I can't see some of your early pics at the mo but will check back soon - keep it up!

    Great work on Amyrai! It looks really good, even though there are plenty of high-rises, it's not a skyscraper jungle. Keep up the good work.

    Looking good as always, the highrise areas look nice. Are any parts of your city specifically for low rise suburbs? If so it would be nice to see them too.

    wow, i haven't updated in a while. well, seeing as this is a city JOURNAL, i've decided to go the way of turry and some others with my CJ, and basically show my region by having a made up person go through it and live in my region. actually, since i can't think of a name for my fictional person, i'll just talk in first person. anyway, here goes:

    <ahttp://img242.echo.cx/img242/4017/amryaiinautumn6mk.jpg align=baseline>

    In the distance from the airplane window, I can see the booming city of Amryai. According to the articles I've read, Amryai's population has risen from 122,000 people to 216,000 in less than ten years and is still growing. Booming, indeed; it's the perfect place to find a new job and start a new life. Oh, you want to know about that story? Well, it isn't very interesting:

    My old job as a meat packer wasn't going too well, so I decided it was time to have a fresh start. I picked out Amryai as a good place to find a new job.

    <ahttp://img136.echo.cx/img136/9477/arrivingatama7sx.png align=baseline>

    Ah, here we are! The captain says we've just landed at Amryai Municipal Airport, so I look out the window. Wow, I said to myself, This sure is a slummy airport. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

    The airport's really busy too; I glance at a local newspaper. Airport Overcrowded, Mayor is Considering Expansion. I hope he is.

    <ahttp://img136.echo.cx/img136/974/niceneighborhoods7hi.png align=baseline>

    I rent a car and drive off. Unlike the airport, the neighborhoods are nice. These neighboorhoods, unfortunately, are too nice for me. Ah well, maybe someday...

    <ahttp://img136.echo.cx/img136/7219/undergroundmall18bt.png align=baseline>

    As I drive into downtown, I see something truly unusual. An underground mall? Wow, they don't have these things where I used to live. I barely have any money though, so no shopping today. I need to look for a place to stay. If only the city planners had been thoughtful enough to put a hotel near the airport...

    I hope you like my new direction, there'll be more updates soon, stay tuned!

    Also, thanks to Pegasus for the mall and the tree mod, they're great.

    Very good start to a storyline, although you might want to include some in-depth character detail in the next update. All we know as of now is that they're a meat packer.

    Well, I was planning on keeping the details of this person's past life somewhat secret (since he wants to start over and all), but i'm going to put in more character detail as the journal goes on.

    <ahttp://img245.echo.cx/img245/2883/leavingamryai6ib.png align=baseline>

    Well, I can't find one blasted hotel in the entire city (216,000 people and an overcrowded municipal airport, and not one hotel? madness), so I'm going to drive around the suburbs.

    <ahttp://img245.echo.cx/img245/7230/nothinghere9cx.png align=baseline>

    There's nothing in River Heights, either...I'll try West Amryai, there's gotta be something. I mean, the Amryai Metro Area has about 300,000 people if i remember correctly. There's gotta be at least one hotel.

    <ahttp://img245.echo.cx/img245/3655/enteringwestamryai6bx.png align=baseline>

    Well, West Amryai doesn't look horribly promising either...Wait! There's a building in the distance that looks like a hotel! I musn't get my hopes up though. Ill go see if it is a hotel, but right now I'm starved.

    <ahttp://img245.echo.cx/img245/5894/mcdonalds9ag.png align=baseline>

    Mmmmm, that's better. Now for that hotel.

    <ahttp://img245.echo.cx/img245/2180/hotelatlast3dt.png align=baseline>

    ...Can it be? It is! A Hampton Inn! Tomorrow I'll go job-hunting in Amryai, but for now it's time to turn in for the night...

    <ahttp://img245.echo.cx/img245/8423/strattonbiotech9ow.png align=baseline>

    After some searching around, I came to Stratton Biotech, located in a small high-tech industrial park surrounded by residential towers. The interview went okay, I suppose:

    So, your previous job was a meat packer?
    Yes, sir.
    And you were fired because you dumped ten pounds of meat on--
    Yes, sir.
    I see. I'm not sure how meat-packing would be useful around here though--
    I know, sir, but I'm really eager for a job, I'll do anything!
    Allright, let me see if there's an opening suitable for someone with your...previous experience.
    Judging from how he said that, he won't find a job for me, I thought.
    Ah! We do need a janitor around here.
    Eh, good enough for now, I guess. Sure, I could be a janitor.
    Excellent! Can you start tomorrow?
    Yes, sir.

    I know, a janitor isn't much better than a meat-packer, but you have to start somewhere. Now I just need to look for a place to live.

    <ahttp://img232.echo.cx/img232/9585/newhome8gu.png align=baseline>

    Well, this place is good. I'm going to start taking night classes (while I'm at it, I need to work on my interviewing skills too), and soon I'll be able to get a better job and a nicer place to live. Who knows, maybe I'll even run for mayor someday!

    <ahttp://img99.echo.cx/img99/8620/hamptoninn8pu.png align=baseline>

    And guess what? They decided to build another Hampton Inn, right next to Amryai Municipal Airport. If only they could have built it a little earlier...oh well, too late now.

    Credits to: Kevdan (McDonalds) and simgoober (Hampton Inn). Thanks, they're awesome!

    Also, thanks for all the comments so far guys, I'm glad you like my CJ!

    Okay, this is a small update, I haven't been working on the city too much.

    <ahttp://img129.echo.cx/img129/1753/hondadealership9ri.png align=baseline>

    Things have been going well. I've been taking night classes, and as a result I was promoted to assistant technician. I've been saving up for a new car too, and now I've saved up enough to go down to the Parkside Honda down the street from my apartment and lease a new Civic DX.

    So, now that I've got a car, I'm going to go drive around the area.

    <ahttp://img128.echo.cx/img128/7924/walmart7lc.png align=baseline>

    They built a WalMart on the other side of downtown. Hmm, this is a good place to get groceries and other supplies. Well, I'm going to go to the suburbs to see if there's anything interesting there.

    <ahttp://img128.echo.cx/img128/5448/walmart1ac.png align=baseline>

    Well, there's nothing too interesting in Country Town, just another WalMart.

    <ahttp://img128.echo.cx/img128/57/newpolicecolors2lf.png align=baseline>

    There isn't too much news in Amryai, either. The police station's gotten a new fleet of patrol cars though. Outdated Patrol Cars Replaced, says the newspaper. Well, at least when I get pulled over it won't be by a '57 Chevy anymore.

    okay, i'm finally updating (this is Part I of a series on a vacation touring the region):

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/7605/trainstation1ei.png align=baseline>

    I like to enter sweepstakes alot, although I haven't won one--until today. I was thrilled: I won a trip to the Longmire Resort Hotel in, you guessed it, Longmire. It's not too far away from Amryai, a one or two-hour drive, but the hotel is supposed to be fantastic. Apparently, train use has dropped drastically, and this sweepstakes is supposed to spur interest in train travel. I don't see why train travel would drop; I love trains! The station is nothing special though..

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/5715/leavingamryaiontrain4ny.png align=baseline>

    And now we're leaving Amryai. You can see the Advanced Research Center a block away from the track. Maybe someday I'll get to work there, that would be great...

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/7516/enteringfieldsville7nt.png align=baseline>

    Ah, now we're entering Fieldsville. It used to be a small(ish) farming town, but recently there's been a housing boom and the farmland has been all but destroyed, as you can see from this high-altitude photo I found:

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/2703/feildsvillepresent5xo.png align=baseline>

    Fieldsville is in between Amryai and its sister city, Allemboisi. A while back there were rumors that the international airport would be built here, but all the Farmsvillians ended up with was an airstrip. Notice the odd (for a small suburb) built up area in the northeast (the oldest) part of town.

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/2163/leavingfieldsville4oj.png align=baseline>

    Well, we're leaving to go across the river, let's see what it's like over there.

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/4830/shortstraitbridge7yi.png align=baseline>

    Wee! A bridge! I love bridges.

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/328/enteringporttownsend5ss.png align=baseline>

    Yawn...some more anonymous farmland...Oh, here's Port Townsend.

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/8711/porttownsend9ir.png align=baseline>

    Not a bad little town. Apparently the bridges don't lead anywhere though. They stop at a dead end after a few miles (it was supposed to lead to a bridge into Allemboisi, but they cancelled that project and just ignored the road and railroad after that).

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/9564/porttownsendtrainstation6hj.png align=baseline>

    Hey, why are we stopping here?? Oh...to let passengers on. Darnit, I was excited about getting to the resort. Ah well, while I'm waiting I can go walk around town.

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/8023/downtownporttownsend4ah.png align=baseline>

    Here's downtown, a few little shops and the occasional office building. Uh-oh, i have to get back, the train's leaving!

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/9522/leavingporttownsend6ii.png align=baseline>

    Next stop, Longmire!

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/1870/medfordjul270211149700615uw.png align=baseline>

    ...With a short detour through the tiny village of Medford.

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/2192/enteringlongmire6yp.png align=baseline>

    Hooray, we're entering Longmire! I'm almost to my resort hotel!

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/5898/garbagedump6ti.png align=baseline>

    Ugh, a garbage dump right next to the railroad. How pleasant. I hope this isn't a bad sign...

    <ahttp://img125.echo.cx/img125/2912/longmire8zt.png align=baseline>

    Nice place. It's a European-style town, apparently. I don't know about you, but Longmire doesn't sound horribly European to me. Well, it could be British. Hey, you can see the hotel in the outskirts! (This is an older picture by the way, from before the railroad was built here).

    I've been given a rental car too, so I can go tour the surrounding areas. Sounds fun, now I'll get to see what the whole region's like.

    <ahttp://img32.echo.cx/img32/1079/fairview11148786386hr.png align=baseline>

    Here's a region view showing my trip so far. I'm excited to see the rest of the area; I think this'll be a really great trip.

    I ordered a new computer, and it's supposed to arrive in a few days. I may or may not be able to figure out how to move all of my saved Sim City stuff onto my new computer, so there's a possibility this CJ may end and I'll have to start over. I should be able to figure it out, but wish me luck!

    i might shut this CJ down though, if so few people going to respond to it. maybe i'm just being impatient, since this is a very active forum, but i'd like to know what alot of people think. it seems like all the CJs get tons of replies, and mine is ignored. oh well, maybe i'm overreacting, but i am considering shutting this CJ down and starting over when my new computer gets here, hopefully something more interesting...

    Hey there, don't shut it down!  I'm liking the direction you're taking it, it's different than what a lot of ppl are doing.  Fun story that you can actually follow, and some good city-building skills (particularly that airport!).  Keep it up!

    I'm noticing that your pictures are .png files. That is a very large file type and take a long time to load. I'm on a DSL connection and this page took over a minute to load; people on dial-up will be waiting forever. That may be part of the reason why you're not getting so many replies. If you open the image in MSPaint or any other image editor and change the file type to .jpg, it will be a lot easier.

    Otherwise, you don't necessarily really need anything fancy to get people's attention. Just keep plugging along. The city is coming along nicely. Hopefully you can copy your old files onto the new computer (via CD burner or something); I just got a new computer and that's what I did. Good luck!
