My Rush Hour disk cracked today. It is ruined. I am really upset. I've had it for 3 years...and it's just gone...wow. For all those, who've lost or damaged any of their SimCity disks I know how you feel now.

The crack is the huge one in the middle, intercepting the hole thingy.

EDIT: WOW. It's exactly 800 x 600 pixels.

wow,

sorry to hear about the bad luck, how did the crack get there?

I should copy my cds, so if that happens I could still play

That's a shame, I would be very upset too if it was my disk. I guess you could try contacting EA games to see if they will replace it. They will probably want proof of purchase and the cracked disk.

Yeah, that's precisely why I never use my original disc when running any game that requires the stupid CD to be in the drive. I hate that kind of copy-protection.

Scratches and cracks can ruin your day. Um. Personal copies of SimCity CDs do not work for me. I am stuck using CD Skins (a great invention) and hoping that my kids don't step on it after they forget to put it away.

Try ebay...

this is why i always create an .ISO copy of my discs, if they have to run the cd, and put in on my hard drive. i use daemon tools to run them. so i don't have to worry about the disc messing up. cause i learned after i went through 2 Starcraft discs, and 2 Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction discs. i got tired of having to get new copies.

Same here. Used .ISO backups so that I wouldn't have to fret over another cracked copy of SC4RH.

One might be interested to know that the US Army makes and uses ISO copies of all of its so-called copy-protected system critical software. CD's are too flimsy.

Sory to hear about the bad luck. I would be very upset too if it was my disk. Make sure you keep a backup of your CD just in case it gets destroyed or missing. As for BubbaGump, I think you'll be stuck with buying a new disc again.

That's terrible. I feel for you, I've recently misplaced my cd case with both the cds and can't find it anywhere.

Just wondering, if u make a drag and drop copy of ur cd to ur computer, is it possible to drag and drop into a new cd and magically have a new working simcity?

edited. Mr. C.

Thanks for the ideas, guys. When I get a new copy (in a bout a month) I'll make a copy of it. It just sucks is all. I mean, I've just recently started a city, and I didn't lose a lot but it took me a lot of my spring break (about 2 hours each day) beginning that city. Oh well...life goes on.

What is the best software to make an ISO on your harddrive? I have always wanted to do that since I use a laptop do play SC4. I, as everyone I can imagine, hate to use the CD to play the game and have to switch the CD's if you need to do anything else.

Personally I use Nero 6 to make ISOs. And Bubba, since you bought the game 3 years ago, in my mind, that entitles you to download an ISO of it. The "man" doesn't agree, but I think it's smart and logical.

    Which "man" doesn't agree?

Copyright law specifically allows you to obtain a functional backup copy of your software from ANY source. The law doesn't care whether it's a copy of your CD or someone else's, whether you D/Led it or burned it yourself, just that it's the same software. If you have to adapt your backup copy to make it functional (say, so that you can run it from a hard disk instead of a CD drive), that's your legal right also.

The relevant law in most Western countries is the USA Copyright Act of 1976, Amended 1998 (DMCA), Title 17, Section 117. Copyright holders CANNOT take your section 117 rights away (much as some of them would like to). Google it sometime - section 117 is short (of course it is short, it addresses YOUR rights, you puny insignificant non-corporation!), it's not too hard to read, and it's very enlightening.
