Great Update! I love it!

One quick question though, what's that building which has it's pipes going into the water?

P.S.: Welcome to Page #8. Tarrytown Valley is now Eight Pages Old.

aldara my man - Great update.  The rail yard looks incredible and I like how you filled the empty spaces in with trees.  I especially like the area near the rail roundabout....(is that what it is called 42.gif)  I like how you transitioned down to the industrial sector as well.  So the Navy is coming to Lighthouse Cove eh?  Will they continue to increase the presence?  Can't wait to find out.  Fantastic update as always.....How about a region shot though....I would really like to see how things are coming together....

Looks great, but what's the point of those bottom on ramps? If anybody drove onto them, they'd simply end up back on the avenue. I don't really get what you're planning with that highway... I assume you're putting in a transition.

Good work.

    Personal Messages:

godwin1020 -  Thanks for the compliments.  I may use this frame in the future, but I will have to figure a way to cut it down considerably.  It got rid of about 1/2 of the picture, so it is not my favorite at the moment.  Thanks for stoping by though...  4.gif

aasim45 - See my previous updates.  It is PEG's reclamation center which in my CJ is being used in the context of a facility to clean up the water pollution...hence the pipes going into the water.  Drop in some more, I think you will like the area.  19.gif

dhoppeii - The rail roundabout is called a roundhouse.  They were used quite considerably back in the hay day of the railroad.  Here is a picture of the roundhouse near the B & O railroad museum in Baltimore, Maryland.

    roundhouse.jpg

Each door houses one or more locomotives.  There is a rail line coming out of each door.  Outside the roundhouse is a turntable.  That way, you can have one line coming in and the turntable goes to the appropriate line into the roundhouse.

The navy...ah yes, they are now in Lighthouse Cove.  As for an increased presence, I'm not sure about that yet.  A region shot I will try to get for you a little later...either today or tomorrow.

Oh yeah, you didn't comment on the highway picture before the update.  And as always, thanks for stopping by.

Shadow_Assassin - Thanks for the visit SA.  The point of the one way road is, you can drive up to the on-ramp and get on the highway.  When you come off the interstate, you are travelling the same direction as when you got on and you end up going the opposite way back into town.  The entire thing is a sort of transition, with some park-n-ride areas added in.  Thanks for the compliments.  Come back soon.

Thanks all for the compliments...keep em coming...  44.gif

The sunken industrial sector to be level with the seaport looks very good too! And those roundhouse's always are a great addition!

Great work aldara, and.....heeeeeres Bob! who say's Have your pet neut.. hum hum.. ho wrong program, who says... keep em comming 2.gif

superchad - Thanks for the clarification.  I was just trying to provide an example for dhoppeii.  Roundhouses actually can be found with the turntable inside or out, you are correct.  Most of the historic roundhouses throughout the country that have been preserved or are still in use are typically of the outside turntable type.  (I was told this by someone at the local train museum on the site of the old Western Maryland Roundhouse in Hagerstown, Maryland. 44.gif )  And please, stop back often to the TRV...we like to see new faces.  19.gif9.gif

Here are actually two pictures that more clarify what a roundhouse is for you dhoppeii.  The first picture shows the bays of the roundhouse where each locomotive would have been parked.  You can also see the turntable at the bottom of the picture.  In the second picture, you can see more clearly the rail spur that comes out of each bay of the roundhouse.  Hope this helps...  2.gif29.gif

    roundhouse3.jpg

Darmok - You and dhop...you guys continue to find new ways to make me laugh...you are too much! 17.gif  I hadn't noticed the rail connection problem until you mentioned it.  I'll have to go take a look at it in the game.  I'm hoping that it is just the angle of the camera.  *crosses fingers*  Thanks for the eagle eye...as always.  9.gif  And as always thanks for the compliments.  I keep thinking that you and dhoppeii...with the frequent contributions you guys make compaired to everybody else...I'm wondering if you are trying to get the position of mayor or even regional governor in my CJ.  Nahhh...you guys wouldn't be doing that.  Or would you?? 47.gif42.gif11.gif

Oh yeah...and about Bob Barker...ain't he like 300 years old or something? 17.gif11.gif I mean, talk about your cryogenically preserved and all...he's like, ancient or something!! 46.gif  But seriously...aint he old?!  9.gif

To all - I should be getting a few pictures to replace the rail pictures from the last update today.  I will post when they are replaced.  After I posted them, I just didn't like the scale so I'll have some new ones soon.  This was the last post I needed to respond to this morning, so now I'm off for some game time!!

Pictures LC7-2 and LC7-3 from Lighthouse Cove Update 7 have been updated.  The new shots show the areas in question with much better details.

    Personal Messages:

Shadow_Assassin - Thanks for the help with the roundhouse questions.  Really appreciate it.  Stop by some more... 16.gif

godwin1020 - Thanks again for following along.  I appreciate the comments.  Who knows...maybe soon we'll see godwin estates or something like that.  4.gif17.gif

dhoppeii - So, did you enjoy your history lesson today? 17.gif  I hope we answered your questions.  Take a look at the new pics detailed above.  Those will give you a better idea, especially LC7-3.  You region shot is coming up...

To All - At the request of dhoppeii, here is a region shot.  The trees haven't been filled in yet, and a few other modifications and additions need to be made before we are done with Lighthouse Cove.  I wanted this city to be a small size town, but it is rapidly growing.  I guess this happens any time you have a large shipping center, the city around it grows at a tremendous rate.  The city has definitely outgrown what I had planned.

This is a region shot of just Lighthouse Cove.  I would give an overall region shot, but there are a few surprises in store that I would give away by doing this.  29.gif2.gif

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//LCove--Region_View_5-22-05.jpg align=baseline>

I'm almost done with the development in this town.  I have plenty of pictures on my PC, so I do have several more updates planned before moving on.  As you can see, I'm using the new starfield mod...I think it looks pretty good.

Here's a parting shot for today.  Just a lazy picture I took that, as dhoppeii says, makes the game really come to life.  It is a shot of one of the freighters leaving Lighthouse Cove.

Great pictures of the rondhouse aldara!
And that region shot is beautiful!

And I hope for you that it isn't a BRF mod related problem, it's just a bit annoying to close SC4, remove the mod go back in, repair, save, quit, put back the mod, reopen... well you get the picture! 22.gif

Anyhow, good pics good historical background for the roundhouses. Thanks! 44.gif

Darmok -   Well, I located the problem.  Thanks for pointing it out in the first place Eagle Eye.  2.gif  I had the same hope as you, to save alot of work for myself.  Well, as it turns out...I had placed an eye candy rail lot at the point you saw the break in the rail line.  I was just for realism, but it broke the line.  I reconnected it and all is good now.  Thanks again.

sc4player - Thanks for the compliment.  I try to make things interesting yet realistic.  And in case I haven't said so before, welcome to the Tarrytowne River Valley.  Come back soon.  29.gif

sloppet - As always, thanks for dropping by.  I don't mind the double post...just gets my CJ back up on the list!  17.gif  I would love for this to become one of the really great ones in the future.  I have alot of work to do to catch up with some of the people on here like Darmok, MrCinatit, Dhoppeii, Jeronij and many many others.  Thanks for the vote of confidence though...I do certainly appreciate it! 44.gif29.gif

Anyone else who I may have forgotten, not much time today.  If I forgot you I do appologize.  As always, thanks for the contributions and compliments as I too thrive on them.  RLS today, so I'm not sure if I will get in an update or not.  We'll see what I can do though.  Thanks for stopping by... come again some time. 29.gif

Ok, even though RLS I am here doing an update.  What the hey...the wife is already made at me so I might as well get an update in...  [:0]  So...

    **********************

At a Board of Directors meeting for Regional Shipping, LLC, discussions were heated.  One director pounded his fists on the table and yelled We are supposed to be in control of the shipping enterprises in this area.  So why are we now third in line behind a foreign company and one of our competitors who until recently was an unknown.

Discussions went long into the night.  When the meeting was finally said and done, it was agreed upon by a 7 to 6 vote to borrow money from the government and to sell stock to finance a total renovation of their current port.  They would even be building on to the existing port.  This would give them the ability to handle as much freight as their competitors.  Because their company controlled the rail yards, it was hoped that this would give them the competitive advantage they needed to become number one again.  Within a few weeks of completion, their port was running full steam, but would it be enough to keep up with their competition?

    Picture LC8-1
    LCove--38--Second_Port.jpg

Many students were beginning to show up in the census rolls.  Because of the increased number of school age students, an school was built.  Because there weren't enough students to warrant an elementary and high school, all students would be housed in the same school.  If you look at the picture, in the bottom there are two entrances to the parking lot.  This is actually an entrance for the school (very bottom) and a small fruit stand's parking lot (Scenic Mountain Orchards.)  Also notice the loop to the rear of the school for loading and unloading of school busses.  Students walk along a sidewalk that runs to the rear of the baseball diamond to the entrance of the school.

    Picture LC8-2
    LCove--39--LCove_Elementary.jpg

It was also around this time that a town courthouse was errected.  It seems that many out of towners from Anduin Valley and LaPlasaince County were coming to the area to get married.  The local churches were unable to keep up with the volume and the courthouse rapidly became a necessity for wedding seeking couples.

    Picture LC8-3
    LCove--40--LCove_Courthouse.jpg

During the dedication ceremony for the courthouse, Mayor Emily pulled Mayor Artimus aside to speak with him.  It seems that Regional Shipping, LLC. was pressuring the mayor to build some sort of transit network that would connect Lighthouse Cove with many of the regions larger cities such as Tarrytowne.  With Artimus' help, financing was obtained through an annonymous benefactor, and the great TRV Highway Project was begun.  In the pictures, you can see the terraforming.  To keep nature and man seperated, a large wooden wall was constructed on either side of the project.  This was an effort to satisfy the complaints of environmentalists who felt the project would endanger the local environment.

    Picture LC8-4
    LCove--41--Highway_Terraforming.jpg

    Picture LC8-5
    LCove--42--Highway_Walls.jpg

Phew...guess that's enough for now.  After this update, there are 3 more updates coming.  Following the final update for Lighthouse Cove, I will provide an overall update showing regional pictures of the entire Tarrytowne River Valley (with some areas blanked out of course 9.gif ).  I will also provide Census Statistics at that time as well.

    Comments everyone...Keep em coming...  44.gif

aldara - Yes, I do appreciate the little history lesson.  Well done by all.

The port is look great, but once again we find you showing off your strength by giving us some shots of grouped together lots.  The Baseball field is great and I like the extra parking you added for the farm bureau offices.  The Courthouse grounds are magnificent.  I really like the water feature.  I enjoyed the tech shots and look forward to following the construction of the highway.

dhop - Thanks again for the compliments.  I certainly try to get things just right.  I often find myself spending thousands of simoleons building and demolishing stuff until I get it the way I like it.

The next stage of the CJ will be sort of different that what we have seen so far.  I just came up with the concept for it a few hours ago and I can't wait to play it out to see how it goes.  It should be pretty cool.

    Update_9--LCove.gif

After several months of construction, the first leg of the Tarrytowne River Valley highway system was complete.  This would be dubbed Highway 261 and would run North / South beginning just outside of Lighthouse Cove.  After several miles, it would terminate at Highway 262.  H-262 was the next section of the planned highway system that would be constructed and would run East / West across much of the valley.  A major North / South artery would also connect to H-262 and run in to Tarrytowne.  The rail lines, which were already in place, served as the guide lines for the highway system.  The lines followed H-261, and then ran East / West around Lighthouse Cove to the rail yards.  There are two large Park-N-Rides on either side of the road.  These Park-N-Rides also have bus service, which would eventually connect all of the major cities and towns in the region.

    Picture LC9-1
    LCove--43--Highway_Beginning.jpg

During many of the Board of Regants meetings, several housing associations repeatedly called for more recreational facilities.  To appease these people, Mayor Emily had a large memorial park constructed including a large statue of herself.  Although she was well liked and respected as a mayor, this move angered many of the local mariners.  They felt that nobody in Lighthouse Cove had paid their respects to the many fisherman and dock workers that had so bravely given their lives to make everyone else's more fruitful.  Will their heartfelt letters reach the heart of the mayor and cause her to reconstruct the park?

    Picture LC9-2 (Mayor Memorial version)

With the population exploding, so was the need for quality health care.  A hospital was built, with Adam S. Edison as it's major financial benefactor.  Because of his generous contributions (which were seen by many as a way to launder money from certain unknown activities) the hospital was named after his mother.  It was forever known as the Susan B. Edison Memorial Hospital.

    Picture LC9-3
    LCove--46--Hospital.jpg

The seafood in Lighthouse Cove was plentiful.  There appeared to be no chance of over fishing the waters, or overharvesting the crabs, oysters, shrimp and many other forms of sea life.  The people of Lighthouse Cove were growing tired of their diet which consisted mainly of seafood though.  The people wanted fresh fruits and vegetables, and farming was the best means of obtaining them.  Several individuals ventured out to the edge of town to start a few farms.  The available land quickly ran out, so they began terraforming the land into terraces going up the eastern face of the great hill.  Many people mocked them, calling their venture a mistake.  The land here was rich however, and the farmers soon reaped many rewards.  Notice in the upper right hand corner, you will see the avenue which is the entrance to the highway system as shown above.

    Picture LC9-4
    LCove--48--Farms.jpg

Right about this time, Mayor Emily felt that it was time she had lived on an appropriate estate for the mayor.  Using much of her life's savings (and may tax simoleans as well) she constructed Dew Drop Manor, which would forever become the mayor's place of residence for herself and all future mayors of Lighthouse Cove.  The estate was built approximately three-quarters of the way up the south face of the great hill.  From this vantage point, she could look out over the ocean as well as the gentle farms.

    LCove--47--Mayors_House.jpg

    **********************

Well everyone, just two more updates to go and we will be complete with Lighthouse Cove.  There are one or two area's which I left open for possible future development, so if I decide to come back I can build a few more things.

As always I love and appreciate your comments... Keep em coming... 44.gif

    Update_10--LCove.gif

With the growing population, many corporations were taking the opportunity to construct regional offices in the area.  Some were even relocating their entire corporate headquarters to the area.  The first major corporation to do so was Franklin-Simpson Investing, Inc.  They were the also first entity in the area to build a skyscrapper.

    Picture LC10-1
    LCove--49--First_High-Rise.jpg

A peaceful and serene place where Lighthouse Cove could inter their deceased was built around this time.  A large cemetary was constructed for the general population.  There was also a large chapel in this cemetary for funeral services.  A smaller, more private cemetary was constructed which would be used for Lighthouse Cove's mayors and more influential citizens.  The entire site was located beside a Mormon Church on the outskirts of town.

    Picture LC10-2
    LCove--50--Church_and_Cemetaries.jpg

Mayor Emily was troubled.  She did not sleep well at night.  She loved the recognition that she received from her memorial park, but she couldn't help thinking about all of those who lost their lives to the sea.  She had read the letter from the Mariner's Association a hundred times.  Finally after three weeks of little sleep she decided that someone could honor her in years to come, maybe even after she was interred in the town cemetary.  She proceeded to have the current monument torn down and a new monument constructed that would honor those lost at sea.  Surrounding the monument, engraved in the bricks of the plaza would be each of the names of those who were lost, what their job was and the dates that they were born and died.

    Picture LC10-3
    LCove--51--Memorial_Park_Updated.jpg

As another form of recreation, Mayor Emily decided to utilize the already existing water features of the area to create a large park.  There were several lakes on the side of the mountain that were connected by a series of waterfalls.  The were call the Gurrgkud Lakes.  The last lake then emptied into the sea through a small tributary.  The lakes were fed by both mountain run-off and also by a series of underground streams that criss-crossed the mountain.

To construct many of the town's facilities, the town had already built a series of underwater channels to direct the flow of water underneath several of the buildings.  This was done to increase the amount of available acreage for various construction projects.

The first picture shows the terraforming I did to create the lakes.  The second is of the finished lakes.

    Picture LC10-5
    LCove--53--Lakes.jpg

Towards the bottom right corner of the picture, you can see where the tunnels begin to direct the flow of water to the sea.  A small park was constructed to the rear of the courthouse.  This park took advantage of the fact that not all of the tributary had been burried.  Part of it was left exposed so that people could take advantage of it's beauty.  This park was named Riverside Park.

aleking - Thanks again for the compliments.  I really enjoy trying to put together the park areas, and also adding on realistic looking parking to some of the bigger commercial and industrial lots.  I have contemplated doing some parking with some of the bigger residential lots when I get them...but haven't decided.  I'm glad that I can provide some inspiration to a fellow CJ'er who has a great CJ himself! 44.gif29.gif  Your immortalization in the CJ is forthcoming...soon.  9.gif

aldara - Great update.  I really like the cemetary area, or at least as much as you can like a cemetary.  The Mariners Memorial looks fantastic.  I haven't gotten a chance to use it in game yet.  The lakes and waterfalls look good, and I enjoyed the tech shots there....but I what I really liked in this update was the last pic.  The park with the path leading across the river is great.  I like how you put the little pieces of land in the middle.  Hang in there for those higher stage farms, they will come.  Remember, If you build it, they will come2.gif

I will parrot what aleking said about your ability to create spaces. I haven't yet had the patience to put into making areas *around* the things I'm building look good. I like your use of transit enabled lots, especially with the various entrances into the school. The Park and Ride is a very unique idea as well.

    Hey Aldara,

Nice updates! Thoses parks are simply awesome!, the mayors house, the farms, I particularly like the Chateau Grand Cru! with the trails around it!

Ah HA! That's where they were going! you steal the churches clientele! Just a warning to you I saw a couple of angry nuns who are ready to put a contract on you! 17.gif

    The courthouse is great!

And all the rest is just as good, the falls, the monuments, that cathedral is it on the stex?

    Anyway great one again!

    Take care!
