Now you have it folks, the official release of the Scruffaluffa Chronicles web site! For any of you that have followed my cities (Shellaccamus, Devils Canyon, Lazy River, or Shady Vale), I hope you''ve enjoyed them thus far, and with this launch, hope to bring you the latest and greatest on day-to-day developments.

Inside, you''ll be introduced to Scruffy and Shellac, our first two children, and all the toils and troubles they have to go thru to build their region, "the hard way".

Thus far 2 articles are done, and I hope to have many more to come! I''d like to get it out there tho, and see what sort of things you''d like to read about in my cities. Is there any one city in particular you''d like to hear more about?

Here''s to a new experience!

An offering you an idea:

Offer us a template with a design (or multiple for divirsity) so anyone can make a website like that. Afterwards you can ad adds on the top for your own profit. I'm sure many people would like that and it would add a couple hundred bucks in your pocket a month! I would defenitly like a website like that.

    Hey Milkman,
You can grab the layout (of any website out there) for free... just right-click on the page, and click "view source". Then you can see how it's layed out. Once any website is published it's public domain, and anybody can freely copy any layout or HTML coding... just can't copy the content (obviously). Mine is a really simple layout... 3 frames & a table... Even has comments in it to make it easy to read (cuz I'm far from a programmer, and get lost quick if I don't keep it organized). So help yourself! If you'd like to throw up a link to my site, that'd be all I'd ask for. 1.gif

    Squishyball,
All I can say is great job bro!! i like the site, and I like your town. The stories are quit amusing as well.

    One question,
I notice you are using multiple tennis courts in two by three space areas, do you find that better than say...one medium flower bed for desirability? In my current residential layouts, I use a one block divider allot and a 2 block open area between two 4x4 residential areas.

Anyway, keep up the good work, it looks great!

    Hasta!

    Hey Stark,
As far as desirability goes, nothing would beat 4 small parks in a square to get the most out of a 2x2 square for the least money... I have the Prima Guide which has all the values for that, but I don't use it... I place what I think should go there... So near schools I tend to place basketball courts since my grammar school had basketball courts. Near apartment complexes I tend to place groups of tennis courts or a pool (thanks to the designer of the pool lot!) cuz apts I've lived in have all had tennis courts or pools at them. If it's really uppity, I might place a med or large flower garden, but otherwise parks. It's just whatever I think would look best there. Also I try to not use the same layout twice...

I think a 2-block open area between 4x4's would be good, but I wouldn't do that everywhere... sometimes 1, sometimes 2, sometimes smacked right up next to each other in a 4x8.

Thanks for the feedback Squishy. I am not advanced enough to really go for total realizm yet. Presently working on the LA Ventura area for a "realistic" region. So far it looks OK, I am having trouble making the same kind of money I usually do with my grid cities (the 2X2 open area design in a 4 x4 resident,I use most of the time). I use that for commercial as well to place medium plazas in the middle...what can I say, still a grid freak 2.gif.

I'll get there one day, lol. Keep up the good work.

    Hasta!

Thats the hungry caterpillar out of the kids books!! 9.gif I havent seen that for years 1.gif

I like the way the commercial is set out be the waterfront in between the two res areas, I wonder if it not being near the rail station will affect the demand or not?....I'll be interested to see how Weed develops. 24.gif

Yes, indeed... he's the caterpillar that eats thru everything in the book... So many of these blasts from the past come back to you when you have a baby (seen at left!) and you get to play with all the cool stuff you had as a kid. 1.gif

Believe it or not, those few commercial zones filled up before any residents moved in! That's bad for Weed, cuz it means people from Shady Vale are filling the jobs, instead of the local residents getting work at the gas stations, fast food restaurants, etc that you find in CS$ buildings...

    Scruffaluffa Chronicles

    WUD founded!

Weed - The sprawling lush farmlands of eastern Scruffaluffa County are quickly becoming a happy haven for low income residents. Seen in this photo, Commissioner Scruffy is seen helping build one of the now famous WUD-homes. WUD, (the Weed Urban Development Society) was founded to help the less fortunate residents fight the ever increasing cost of living around the greater Shellaccamus Metro area.

Thank you for all the comments, everybody! Seems Scruffy is going to have to make some more public appearances to keep his fans happy. 24.gif

Here's a preview of the next sleepy suburb coming to Scruffaluffa County... Located in the Crater Lake area south of Shellaccamus, this is the first of 3 small cities surrounding the meteor-striken area... LakeView... (West Lakeview and Crater Valley to follow shortly).

Thanks Screwball, yeah, I don't play very fast - he's 8 months now! Most of my games are spent like this... playing a month here, a month there... This 1 year of gametime took me a few days to play out. End result tho, is the city is off to a quick profit, and this w 3 schools and 3 clinics...

    cl-005k.jpg

The problem now tho, is that expenses are higher than my typical cities... In particular since this is mostly residential -- normally you effectively double-tax your sims... Taxing both their R income, and also their business income, so a town of 5,000 sims should be able to net you about $2k profit. Now tho, I'm only getting about half that since they're all commuting to Shellaccamus for their jobs. Also, the early freeway was a larger than normal expense for such a small town.

    Hi folks,
Here's the latest from Crater Lake. Haven't had much time to play, but it has come along nicely to 25k residents. Still only pulling in $2k profit, it's tough w the freeway, and now, new monorail connecting the residential end of town w the industry across the hill. Here's the images of the monorail. Part of the ever expanding Greater Shellaccamus Area PMS
