I have started playing rush hour and notice the day, month, year counter in the lower left hand side of the screen. Is there a limit to how long one can play sim city ?17.gif35.gif

unless i have missed a press release or meeting, there is not time limit for how long you can play SimCity...there might be a time when the date indicator sets back to zero, but the city will continue as before.

I've been stuck on this game since Rush Hour came out, and there's no signs of the addiction subsiding. Unless I get myself together, uninstall the whole thing, toss my game disks in the river, and give back my cable modem to keep me off Simtropolis, there doesn't appear to be a limit to how long I, at least, can play Sim City.

But I guess that's not what you meant. 3.gif

It's funny I seen this thread today. Just today I was wondering what will happen when some of my Edmonton Areas hit 1,000 years. Downtown the most important area of the city is at 700 some years. And at the rate its growing it should hit a few 1,000 years. So when I pass 1,000 years soon we'll see.

with sims 1, you had such an addiction subsiding, it appeared after 100 days of playtime. I believe, that since this kind of easter eggs are really the Maxis thing, they are probably there in SC4.

I  know that in SC2 and SC3, there were limits to how much money you could have in the treasury, and if it went beyond that, you lost the city. Game over. You get kicked out of office for not knowing how to spend money. I've actually had it happen in SC2, but only when cheating. The limit is somerwhere around 14 billion dollars, if I remember correct. I never had it happen in SC3, since there was no get money quick cheat, only one to make stuff free. There is no such limit in SC4, but having way too much money in your treasury (we're talking trillions of simoleons here) may cause the game to crash. I haven't had this happen personlally (never gotten that high), but I never tried to make it happen.

In SC2 and SC3, if your date went past 9999 it rolled over to 0000. Since SC4 counts from zero, not an actual start date, it may or may not do this.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

Not that it is relevant to this topic, but I don't think there was a money limit in SC3.  I found a hexadecimal editor program somewhere that would give you something like 6.38 trillion Simoleans.  I try not to cheat in my cities (as much) anymore.  It took all the fun out of it with that much money...

actully I haven't gone past 100 years with any of my citys and I haven't found a limit to how much money you can have in SC4
I gone the highest over 4,000,000,000,000,000 and the game still would run too.but so far I have the 4billon park mod an I filled a entire small map and let it run for ten years to get that much money. But the funny thing is after you get about 1trillon you wont be able to see all the money places oddly.

There is no time limit.  The game is open ended.  You decide when time is up.  Right now, I have a city at 200 yrs.  I plan to take every city in my region into the 1000's of years.  In SC2000 I once had a city over 10,000 years.  (Talk about addicted46.gif).

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.  Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death."

I have 7 cities in one of my regions all with 900+ years on them.  It helps having a very fast computer that slows minimally even on large maps that are nearly filled.

My oldest city is 250 years old, but i don't play it anymore, because of the permanent lags, no wonder if you have a PC with only 256 DDR RAM.. i'm currently saving some money for more RAM and a better grahic card, then the game will (hopefully) run much faster.

I'm 99% sure that the game has no time limit to it. I have a city (now defunct) that ran for about 1000+ years. If you look at the counter, it seems to me that you could fit in an additional two to three digits there.
So (visually), the game could run to a maximum of 999999 years before resetting itself. But then again, there is no guarantee that the game couldn't squeeze in more digits 42.gif.

And besides, how long can you play one city without reaching your target for that city?? 18.gif
