GLR and some other City questions

I have a question about my traffic network question concerning the GLR:

The system I'm going to build will be a monorail that will connect my region with 1 stop per small city, 2 stops per medium, and 4-6 per large, depending on how populus it is. For suburban areas I'll use elevated rail, connected a rail system for my freight and industry, and connected to my commercial area subway system. And of course I'll use custom stops for everything so that I have bus stops everywhere. Now the question: I've read up on the GLR, and personally, the look of the train doesn't matter to me that much, not worth the trouble in my eyes: but, is there any kind of non-visual difference between rail/elrail/subway systems and GLR (and I group rail/elrail/sub together because I'll be using all the adapters to make them work with each other). I'll just go with my setup, but if GLR is better, I'll happily use it.

And on a completely unrelated note:

    1. Where can I find a tutorial to place embarcaments correctly? I tried the M...something emb. set, and I completely messed up my shoreline, they overlap and don't fit.

    2. Where can I find the mod to allow you to place embarctments under bridges? I've seen pictures of this, and I've downloaded the mod to place roads under bridges, but haven't seen a mod for that.

    Thanks!

The GLR is the El-rail/subway only on the ground rather than sunken or elevated. It uses the same automata as the other two.

jeronij made a tutorial for his embankment pieces, I'm sure Marrast made one too... try searching the forums for it.

Also, buddybud made some expansions for jeronij's original set that include underbridge pieces. Do a search on the STEX for him and it should turn up. Also, jeronij's new embankments include under bridge pieces.

    Sir Rakey,

I can't help with your GLR questions, but I can help with the Marrast Embankment questions.

    1. The land at the top of the cliff where you want the embankment pieces needs to be perfectly flat to look good. I would recommend using single tiles of street (just click, don't drag) to level the top of the cliff. There are also pieces in the set for corners and going between straight and diagonal sections.

    2. Marrast's set also contains lots that extend underneath bridges. They use offset-rendered props. This means the prop is attached to the lot, but also extends past the lot. Marrast's set contains pieces for extending under 1 and 2 tile wide bridges. However, they have to be placed on a certain side as he didn't make pieces for going the other way:

    | | x

    - - -

    | | = Bridge (2-tile wide in this case); x = lot;  - - - = where the prop of the embankment appears.

In all cases where an embankment appears under a bridge, the lot is usually located next to the bridge with a prop extending under the bridge. I hope this covers your questions about the embankments. If you have any more questions, just ask.
