  1. Park Trails by New023

By EyeCandy only, do you mean they don't even retain the park benefits? (do they increase desirability?)
  2. Why EA is every serious gamer's nightmare

"What next? Will they complain that societies is too difficult, and ask for an even easier game? How many people can even find SC4 that hard?" Aye. Exactly. "EA destroyed the Command & Conquer series" They're destroyed a lot of series in the name of profit.
  3. I was originally going to post this in the 'Ouch' thread, but I just read the Gamespot review for SCS, and I thought a new thread was more appropriate. Gamespot confirmed my worst fears about about SCS. The first thing I see in the review is " Game is way, way too easy ". Don't fool yourself guys, EA specifically set specs for this game to be far easier than SC4. Why? Because they lost some casual fan base when SC4 came out because the game was "too hard". No, SC4 was a brilliant game that honestly tried to make the best city building experience out there. They were headed in the right direction, as most people here would agree. I honestly do not blame Mills, because I can assure you they were under strict orders from EA to "make this game more attractive, easier, and make it meet the xmas shopping date". EA is NOTORIOUS for this kind of behaviour. They are well known for not bothering to update games, and simply busting out new sequels to rake in more money. Just look at BF2142, Need For Speed: Carbon, Need For Speed ProStreet, etc. etc. All these games, in all honesty, could have been much much better, but EA specifically chose to make them medicore in exchange for selling them in the holiday season. EA doesn't care about what their fans think, they don't care about what would give them good reviews. They're just in it for the money. They excel at producing crappy games that market well and bring home the money, while dissapointing any real fan base that was there. EA has basically dumbed down SCS, and I can garauntee you that poor reviews will not steer them in the right direction, because there will be plenty of people who will buy SCS just because it looks "fun" and it has "sim" in it. They ignored everything their fans asked for, the people who have been playing since SC1. Instead of moving in the more intelligent, realistic, direction, they went down the "lets have people create fairy cities that are perfect and make it easy". I mean, you choose essentially every building in your city! How much lower can you get? Every game EA releases, they miss the bar, and they don't care, because their fans mean nothing to them compared to money that will be made from marketing well in the video game market. I am so sick of this, and I am so disgusted by what they have done to my beloved SC series. They can be sure that they won't be recieving a dime from me from any of the recycled, reused, boring, dumbed-down crap that they market. Until they actually listen to their fanbase and try to make games more intelligent (and this doesn't mean losing profits, look at blizzard, the opposite of EA and arguably the best game makers out there), I am never buying any of their games. -rake P.S. I've been an avid SC player for many years, and would have gladly spent my money if they released a quality sequel to SC4 that actually addressed the requests of their fans. Sorry for the long rant.
  4. Rate one image.

tag_one, where is that bridge from? (I notice how well it fits with the walls, I love it).
  5. Am I missing deps?

Eh no wonder only mods and some of the plopables worked from the stuff I DL'ed. Alright, going to have to search for that serial tommorow. Yippie.
  6. Am I missing deps?

Well I got everything there except the two product-only downloads. I installed the game on this computer a few years ago, I have no idea where my CD case is, so I have no idea where the serial with which to register is.... Is there any other way I can get that bat-required file? =/
  7. Am I missing deps?

Can't find either of those on the main Sim City sity (simcity.ea.com). I can only find the actual BAT program. :/
  8. So I've downloaded the Simcity Police Headquarters ( https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=1193 ) , but when I put it down, the building is... gone? I can see the parking lot and the green grass below, but the building itself is gone (I can see parts of the roof). So my natural assumption was that I was missing some kind of dependancy for it, but I went back to doublecheck, and it doesn't specify anything. I'm kind of lost here. What am I missing? If someone really needs to see a screenshot of the problem, I can take one. Thanks, rake.
  9. Basically, I'm in the midst of working on a large downtown area. Basically, down the middle runs a highway that separates my waterfront from the rest of the city. However, this highway burrows and pops back up later. This creates a large 6 by 48 (give or take, either way it's quite long) . Here's a screenie: http://plasma.dyndns.org/sc4.jpg (sorry it's so slow, resized it wrong) I want to create a large park (since my waterfront area doesn't really have any space for this), kinda imitating the NYC central park, long and narrow. I know 6 spaces is a bit too narrow, but you guys get the point. I've looked through stex, and have not found any 3X3 or 6X6's that I could tile together to form something like this. Maybe I need to use 4X4 in the middle and 1X1 on the sides, but I don't know which. I kinda like symmetrical stuff, but I understand that this park might be asymmetrical for the sake of it. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to make something like this? I've seen some beautiful parks in the park thread and achievements thread, so I know you guys have the creative power... thanks.
  10. Show us your most unique and creative transportation network!

Hi! First off, let me start off by saying I'm new to this forum, but I'm already addicted. I've been a SC fan for quite a while, but all these mods and pictures make my cities look quite useless. I basically have a series of questions that I got while reading this thread (Yes, I looked at all the pictures, ). I do not have the StexCD, so if anyone has an answer, can you give me a link or something to google? Thanks. 1. Where is the LATEST version of NAM? I took the link from july, but I think they updated it this october? 2. In my version of NAM, the roads are UK style (people drive on the left). Is there a US version? 3. Where do I get those sunken highways (like, so that the railroad can pass on flat land above, instead of having an elevated bridge? I can't find the sunken highways (with the neat concrete walls on the side) in my version of NAM. 4. Where can I get the express lane that I saw in several highway systems, so there was like a regular freeway in the middle plus two one way lanes on the sides. 5. How do I remove the Arrow markers on one way streets? I think I saw a mod for this, but I'm not sure. 6. Where can I find a tutorial on how to PROPERLY use the digger tool? For me, it just makes really deep holes, and I can't make roads go under cities... EDIT: 7. I know this is a rather generic question, but when building a network, where should I use monorail, and where should I use elevated rail? Is rail/elevated rail (you can connect the two for passenger use, or do the trains not work with each other) suitable for a large urban center? I mean, what if you made your freight system connected to your urban train system? People could go pretty much anywhere? I think that's it for now, any answers will be highly appreciated.
