Well, I was very bored today so I wanted to know what the largest forum was in the world. In my search, I discovered a website called http://www.big-boards.com/ (It's safe, but enter at your own risk)... when I was there, I noticed a long table of all the largest forums in the world, and here is what I discovered:

The largest forum in the world is (*drums roll*)...

http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/index.php

It is an anime website!

It has over 3 million members!!! To be exact, 3613964 members.

On Simtropolis, Dusktrooper has the highest post count with over 11,100 post.

At Gaia, the person with the most post count is over 40,000 post!!!

Over all, the website has a post count of 593,068,297.

The Second largest is actually a website you may be familar with:

http://boards.ign.com/

It is the very popular website for gamers.

It has over 1 million members and, in total, has a post count of 130,101,850

Edit: When you are at 'big-boards', the table with all the largest forums is at the very end of the page.

40,000 posts... I wonder how much of a real life that person must have. Even if the forum was 10 years old thet person had to have posted 11 posts or more per day.

10.96 to be accurate. But still that's a lot. I was probably a month ago able to make those numbers but I seem to have slowed down within the past week or so.

I had a feeling it'd have something to do with anime.....

Looking back if I never found Simtropolis I'd be an Anime God in that comuunity.....probably....I knew so much about anime it was insane....even though my memory was and is horrid I'd always watch an anime like 10 or 15 times so I basically got it memorized.....

And 40k posts about anime.....thats notting.....I bet if they gave me a forum about Cowboy Bebop or any anime from Sunrise Inc. I could get 10 k posts in the first week....lol

well, big forums aren't too uncommon. It doesn't surprise me about the anime-- what thing unites most of the computer/internet using world? Games and anime. I don't want to go there, though... scary, 3 million members.

www.joomla.org has a considerable forum. Though they only have 30k members or so.

^ Wow! Really? Well, Gaia is right behind it... 3,613,964 members to be exact. And actually, that website is growing by the tens of thousands per week.

Either way, they are both Anime websites. haha.

I don't think I'd want to be involved in a site like that...it's like the Hong Kong of forums...so big and busy, you'd get lost and never be able to make much sense of anything because of all the business happening about you.

Wow, and it's about ANIME. Oy vey. (I still think Anime will prove to be a fad, we just need to give it a few years).

BigBoards is a place I also found not long ago; Of course I looked up Simtropolis. It was not updated. Still isn't yet, I believe. Simtropolis should be ranked higher than that outdated ranking.

I attempted to update, but I can't do it; not the admin. here.

I think Dirk has to do the updating at their site.

Also looked up Renderosity.com; one of my other hangouts.

I actually like anime, but i couldt ever see myself hanging around an anime-styled role play site for kids. Im not a hardcore gamer and i dont like those monster commercial gaming sites one bit.

i can see posting 10 times on average a day(or 70 times on one weekend) if there was an enormous amount of newbie/question posts coming in everday and you were the community uber guru/helper outer.

But as far as community sites like this, no way. things would have to go extremely fast around here to get that many posts in a day. having 532 posts and being here for half a year is about right for me, the most post counts i have on any site is 2500, and that fits in with how long ive been there.

Simtropolis is the biggest i go on. and #260 and 1000 something aint to shabby when you consider its stats from the ENTIRE INTERNET!

anime isnt really a fad. Maybe the increase in popularity it has gained in the last few years could be considered a fad, but its had a presence here since at least the early 90's. way back before bittorrent and limewire and other peer to peer networks, you would get bootleg VHS tapes at conventions and pass them around.Of course, these were seriously hardcore geeks back then.

Also it was in the early 90's when akira came out, which really defined high quality anime movies.

Either way, considering it has been a primary genre of entertainment(dont forget about manga) in japan since the 60's, it certainly wont go dissappear like a true fad, rather it will just be less known.

Really the only thing that has kept anime from becoming more popular is strict censorship laws here in the US, mainly due to our favorite type of people in the whole wide world, bible belt politicians and activists...14.gif Thankfully we have the internet and nobody will ever be able to stop us from showing the people this teh awesome genre from the land of the rising sun.

As far as being too big, yeah i can understand that. I think simtropolis is just the right size. Its big enough for it to really feel alive and like a true community and not just a group of friends, but also not to big that you feel lost in the crowd.

@micah: Actually, it's an "everything" board.

@toxicpiano: I imagine they have a system set up that uses multiple servers, perhaps with one sub-board on each.

    hahahahhhahahahahhahahaha

man I don't think I've ever laughed that hard in my life.....

    you are kidding right?

Maybe a fad on the Eastern coast of America or in other places like Mexico, but Canada and the West have alot of anime based video stores and actaully manga shops....

God I love manga way more then anime, but maybe I am an old school geek....11.gif

We are even seeing a rise in anime related and gaming related clubs here in the West...
