Power to buildings

Noobish question, sorry, but I've just finished a new custom lot (save for the money on bulldoze issue, which is in another thread) and for some reason the night lighting, which is in the model when test rendered, does not appear in game.  All my other custom buildings light up and I have the correct files installed.

I seem to recall a post somewhere that the building needs to have the power setting turned on (or something similar) but I can't seem to find it and I can't locate an option to this effect in either LE or SC4Tool.

    Please help!

    Try the following things:

    - First of all, make sure the building has water (if it needs) and a traffic connection (if it needs one).

    - Then, let the game run for a few months.

    - Switch back and forth between day and night view.

    - disconnect the building from power, then re-connect.

Still no success? In this case you may have used the structure you want to get lit up as a prop. Props indeed need to have a property set to "true" in order to show lights at night. You can check if this is the case by using the plugin manager.

Make sure that your files are in the main plugins directory, not in a subfolder. In the tree to the left, select "prop". Now you should see a list of props in the right half of the window. Select your prop by double-clicking, go to the "Advanced" tab and set "Light" to "True".

As for your other question, I think park lots etc. alleviate air pollution by having air pollution set to a negative value. This is done by setting the respective property e.g. not to 0x00000005 for an air pollution of 5, but to 0xFFFFFFFA (in hexadecimal, F (=15) less five is A (=10)) for an air pollution of -5. You could try that with bulldoze cost as well, but my guess is that the property "bulldoze cost" has a predetermined permitted range of zero to whatever and will not accept anything below zero. I never tried, though.

Thank you - I've now fixed the cost issue and will try your suggestion on the lighting
