Avenues vs. One-Ways

I was wondering wether it would be a good idea to demolish some avenues and replace them with two one-way roads (that essentially act the same as an avenue) and an open space between them. The open space could be used for something like elevated rail. The only thing that stopped me from doing this was the fear that replacing the avenues would greatly lower the capacity. How does the double one-way combination compare to an avenue in terms of capacity?

Also, has anyone built a parkway by placing two one-way roads with the same orientation next to two one-way roads with the opposite orientation?

Well... I don't know... Avenues are nice, but you never know what will you get with one ways... maybe just backup your city with avenues, later demolish them and build one way roads, and... tell us what was the effect! 22.gif .... *sleepy*

As far as capacity goes, avenues are slightly better than dual one-way roads. An avenue has a default capacity of 2500 on each side for a total of 5000, while a one-way road is lower at 2000, or 4000 for two of them. Plus, any time you have a road intersecting the dual-one-way, you have two intersections and two sets of stoplights, instead of just one. The advantage of dual-one-way roads however is cost. A 2x2 section of avenue costs $60 to lay and $1 per month to maintain, while a dual-one-way setup is $40 and $0.40 respectively.
