Is there a way to isolate the sounds in the game and play them back on your computer?  The traffic sounds are what I'm talking about.

Thanks,

Dustin

The sounds are all MP3 files located at: ...\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4\Radio\Stations

You can copy them, but you'll have to figure out which is which.  The naming scheme does not match the menus.

I'm not looking for the music. I want the sounds from the game...traffic sounds, etc.

Oh, sorry.  Just a moment while I look.

... don't see anything specific.  Maybe someone knows if they are separate or built-in to the game.  Since they are related to the animation, I suspect they are hard coded.

Capturing them would need a program for audio that works for visuals as well.  TechSmith's Snagit will capture an AVI, and then with the right editor, e.g. Pinnacle Studio, you might be able to peel off the sound track to isolate the sound bytes.

Interesting.  It might be better to take an indirect approach for what I want to do, anyway.  Thanks...I'll look into it.

they can usually be found in the SimCity .dat files. Use ILive's Reader to view those files. however, they're not named, and they exists as XA (?) files. they're playable, and i think the Reader has an Export to WAV function built into it. however, since they're not named, you'll have to do some digging around as to which one does what.
