Hey all, I'm one of those new to Simtropolis guys, but played the game for years. Welcome to my first CJ - Ipaunz: The Australian Outback Metropolis! Some pics and the beginning of my story will be posted soon, but I just thought I might wet your appetite first. Just a note, I don't believe in cheats usually, but I thought for the reader to get the most out of this CJ, I will only use cheats / modds that increase realism. Nevertheless, apart from some BATs and some other stuff, this CJ is as vanilla as possible. Modds used: - Street cul-de-sac (c'mon, EVERYONE uses that!) - Industry Quadrupler (read above comment) - fightthepower (I thought it be unrealistic to have a power plant in each city) Okay, so you know a little bit about my CJ, I promise I will post pics and reveal the story soon, and I know you're already asking questions: "Where did Ipaunz get its name?" "What's the story about its origin?" "Hang on, I didn't think there were any cities in the Aussie Outback?" . . . More will be revealed

jacqulina, all I am doing is taking the pics straight from simcity (which is png by default), then changing the extension to jpg by renaming it. However when I upload them onto imageshack they say it's png, which is why i think IE users can't see them. What is this pic converter you are talking about, because whatever I'm doing doesn't seem to be working at all . . .

I am a CAD Operator and work in an engineering firm. Being an architect I can't really tell you if you need basic CAD training, I'm not in that industry. If you wanted to become an engineer, you don't need any CAD experience as they generally teach you the basics when you get a job. However, I'm just talking from the point of view of my company.

It's good that the pictures are working on Firefox, however, the majority of Simtropolis users have IE. I want everyone to see the pics not just a select few. I'm frustrated because the pics are definately jpeg, but the link that I cut and copy from Imageshack has .png at the end (refer to link in previous post).

G'Day all, Thanks for all the help, but I'm doing EVERYTHING right I swear. The pics appear for me as I'm writing the reply, but when I post them I can't see them! Below is the link that I copy and paste, and for some stupid reason, at the end of the link it says .png, but I have converted my pics jpg by changing the extension! Let me know what's wrong and I can re-post the pics for all the IE people. Sardonic Arbiter - You are definately an Aussie, that's good to see. I personally agree with your point about the European settlement part, but like I said, "It's rumoured". Also, I know trucks can carry that kind of load (5 - 15 trailors), but I don't think that's road legal However, you are probably right in saying that there are trucks out there that carry more than 3 trailors. Good comment! Thanks again everyone http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/192/201qa2.png

I dont know what's going on? I've done exactly what the tutorial said, all pics are JPG, they are about 600x480 and when I inserted them on my reply they appeared fine. Can someone tell me what's happening, I don't want to have all talk no pictures in my CJ.

The second update . . . Ipaunz' economy is booming. The arid, flat lands of the Australian Outback is proving to be able to withstand the construction of an entire new country. Tens of thousands from the Indian Ocean, primarily Mauritius and Sri Lanka have flocked to the land of new hopes and dreams. Just as many came from the Pacific Islands, specifically Hawaii and a huge population of New Zealanders. However, by far the new population of Ipaunz was inhabited by Australians. 2.02 - South of the CBD, many of the boutiques and upper class citizens call this place home. One of the main worries from the leaders of Ipaunz was how it was to succeed due to the fact that it was a landlocked country? Nevertheless, this has been a boost to its success. Because of the trade tax that was still enforced throughout the world, Australia played host to Ipaunz' imports and taxed it all. However, Australia agreed to free freight movement across her land, making it a plus-plus situation for both parties. For a few years Australia and Ipaunz continued this friendly and helpful relationship that put more money into the pockets of both countries. 2.02 - The education system rivalled the western world, and with the construction of the first university along with the student accommodation, Ipaunz was right on the heels of the world leaders of education. Nevertheless, Ipaunz still needed to make the switch from importing all foreign objects to actually manufacturing their own. So the "industrial revolution" as you might say, began south of the city in the large suburb of Codobine, which means in the Aboriginal language, Place where man removes heart from another man. 2.03 - The high-tech and manufacturing core of the city 2.04 - More of the suburbs and terraces south of the downtown district. 2.05 - The south-eastern sector of the city that is situated on the same railway as the other picture. With Ipaunz' feet firmly planted on the ground, the leaders focused on a democratic solution to the next step of development. 1. Should the leaders focus on agriculture? 2. More commerce? 3. More suburbs?

tomdapom & powerdc: Thanks heaps for the help. It's people like you that are going to get this CJ off the ground! Thanks again, a new update will be here soon! homeandaway: Hey man, thanks so much for the comment, it's good to know that I'm doing well for my first CJ. Hope you enjoy the next update coming in a few days. jacqulina: Cheers mate, I will look into it. Thanks for the help! ajay_lay: Yeah, a fellow Aussie! I'm hoping I can get a few more of us to follow this CJ. You are correct, a city of that size would struggle to survive on its own in most harshest of territories in our known world. However, keep in mind the story - you have several countries that have united that are pumping everything they have into it to get the city, or new country for that matter, off the ground. Plus, you will learn in the next update that is coming soon how the relationship between Ipaunz and Australia is helping both nations physically and financially. Won't spoil it too much though! Just a little information about the Outback as I'm sure most of you Europeans and Americans etc underestimate the harsh desert of Australia. It is by far the most remotest part of any inhabitable nation today. Less than 10% of Australia's population live in the Outback, so that's less than 200 000 - in a space that's probably equivalent in land mass as the United States. The Outback generally refers to just past the bush, where the development of the urban coastal areas stop. The Outback is also known as "Beyond the Black Stump" and "Never Never". The roads are known to be well built and some of the straightest, but quite dangerous. The vast majority of Australian freight moves around in "Road Trains", generally trucks carrying more than two trailers (usually three). The Outback is so remote and mysterious it is rumoured that there are still Aboriginals out there that don't know white man has settled in Australia. For those who don't know, Europeans settled in the mid to late 1700s. Also, the Aboriginals are the native people of our beautiful nation, however, they originally came from Asia thousands of years ago I believe. If there are any more Aussies out there that want to put in their viewpoint, please go ahead, it's nice to know that there are Australians out there Stay tuned for the second update, there's a HUGE surprise for the reader . . .

The el rail is wonderful! Doesn't look out of place at all, and the walls make it look even better!

good work. It's nice to see a city that isn't totally overdeveloped by skyscrapers. The suburbs give it a nice realistic feeling
-
dude, what an incredible recreation of NYC. I love the snow terrain, it makes it so easy to see your transportation map
-
nice downtowns everyone, especially aj_law, pretty cool considering the population

jake501, I don't think so. To be honest it almost looks like Surfers Paradise in Australia, minus the beaches. Plus the previous picture is definately fake. No questions

What awesome terraforming! I could never have the patience to do such beautiful and intricate work, and I'm a CAD operator!?! Look forward to more, I will be following this until the end.

Could CAD be used for batting?
benry8 replied to Jersey_17011's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I do 2D CAD for a living at an engineering firm - If it's possible to use CAD for batting, tell me how!! -
Venrogator : Sorry mate, get rid of the text and you should be able to get the images. gml_josea : Thank for the advice, but I'm not sure how to set the links for the images. Can you help me out? Cheers.

It's a public holiday in Australia right now, so it gives me time to post my first update. Plus it's good because I don't need to go to work Let me just warn all you readers : This CJ is fictional, it doesn't contatin any factual information or based on any real city / town. . . . . In the Beginning The year is 2019. World relations are crumbling due to the simple fact of a planet-wide tax on trade that had been instituted by the world leaders of western civilization. The rich are laughing in their mountains of wealth while the poor are starving and virtually losing each and every cent that they earn. Realizing the dire situation that many of the poorer nations were in, the greedy invaded many countries, taking control of all imports and exports and reducing their already shattered economy to shambles. In the wake of this disaster, countries rased their taxes on the people to try and boost their economy to its original state. Riots, rebellions and protests began almost immediately as the governments tried to bleed their peoples' bank balance dry. Decades passed, and the leaders of all countries in the Oceania region met together in what was to become one of the most important meetings in the history of mankind. Realizing and admitting that everything was taking a turn for the worse, they all agreed on a solution. Unite, or perish. It was agreed that the people don't deserve such hardship. A place, a new country, was to take form where the people need not worry about taxes and where they can live freely in the world that they once knew almost fifty years ago. But where should this new country begin? The pacific islands were too small, New Zealand was to mountainous for quick development. The choice was easy. An enormous patch of land in the Australian Outback was to be the site. It was currently owned by the Aborginal Gundagai tribe. The leaders of Oceania agreed that agression wasn't the answer to kick these native people out, and everyone agreed that they could either reside in this new country or be fairly compensated. The year was 2067 and development in this region began swiftly. Corporations knew that this was a way the perfect place to continue operations. Relocate their headquarters and their staff to this new region where there is little or no taxation, and hope for the best . . . Ipaunz – The unification of the Indian Ocean & Pacific Ocean islands, and the Commonwealths of Australia and New Zealand. Pictures 1.01 – The suburbs lying just outside the downtown area. 1.02 – Where the suburbs and the CBD meet. Because of the Road layout, not the Street layout, I have planned for sufficient growth to medium and high density residential. 1.03 – ConcordTower and First Union Centre, some of the first skyscrapers to appear in the area. 1.04 – Welcome to the new nation’s capital! Tens of thousands of employees work in this sector of the CDB. 1.05 – If you look closely, you can see the shadows of the skyscrapers smothering the surrounding suburbs. 1.06 – Ipaunz mirror image of the Boston Big Dig. There are two arterial roadways in the city now : The North – South Highway and East – West Avenue (later to be renamed when I get more imagination!!) Hope you like the story and where this is heading! Let me know what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong. Update 2 to come shortly where I will reveal the next part of the story, plus the industrial sector of the city.

Inappropriate comment. ~zel~ the cn tower in toronto is one of the tallest structures in the world. The only other things that are taller than it is things like radio towers. i dont know how u can say that the cn tower is smaller than 90% of the buildings in the toronto cbd it sticks out Inappropriate comments. ~zel~ however i do agree with your statement saying that the bus stops and subways are too big. they are. when u c subway stations in places like new york they fit in the sidewalk. thats an inprovement i would like to see in the future.

hey i was born in adelaide and moved up to brisbane in 2001. its good to see that someone is finally making the city of adelaide (and a very good one for that matter). Hope you make it very accurate i tried and failed miserably. also, someone said that adelaide has one of the worst traffic systems in the country that is not true. in fact, adelaide has probably the best and most efficient. although we dont have any actual highways, we do have many main roads that act as highways (e.g. main south road and main north road etc). Also, the railway lines extend to almost all sections of the city and also the expressway controls peak hour traffic and makes main south road a little less congested during these hours. i would like u to include my previous home located at Old Noarlunga on the corner of Main South Road. It is one of the oldest houses in the city at over 160 years. hope the city turns out real good.
