Building Log: World Trade Center (Pre-9/11)
BigMac replied to rubik3's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
rubik, unfortunately someone plagiarized the north tower. This is the first instance I've seen of plagiarism of the World Trade Center, but I'll let you know if I come across any others. http://simcity.ea.com/exchange/lots/lotdetails.php?lotID=9674 -

If the BAT put food on the table, rubik would enjoy all-you-can-eat buffets for every meal. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif> -

There you are; we were getting worried. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif> Do you have a website where we can see your web design work? I am interested because I do web design as well. -
Building Log: World Trade Center (Pre-9/11)

There was an underground parking garage that was used for public parking up until the bombing, the goal of which was to topple the towers by causing the north tower to fall onto the south tower. Because of the offset placement of the towers, that would seem like too complex of a plan to carry out...but when you consider where the bomb was detonated, you can understand exactly how the terrorists intended for it to happen. The memorial fountain was directly over the spot where the bomb exploded underground. The fountain was located very close to the north tower, and very close to the invisible line between the towers, which each twin touched. -

Thank you kenneth! Unfortunately, I neither live in New York City nor own a camera. I've been researching the World Trade Center as a hobby for a few years and have come across some good photographs from many different websites. I remember you mentioned before that you are a New Yorker. For a couple of months now I have been a member of the Wired New York forum, a useful discussion board with a heavy focus on New York City architecture. You might appreciate it; it's a great information resource on the city. -

When I first saw that picture, I thought you might be announcing a future BAT project; quite a change from WTC-caliber lots. -

rubik, in case you didn't get my private message, the user ManofDoom looks to have plagiarized your Matrix power plant lots on the SimCity Exchange. Here are the lots. -

Thanks again for your attention to detail; I'm excited to see all the different props you will include. As always, let us know what we can do to help. -

It's looking terrific, rubik! Just a few observations: - The bend in the hotel begins slightly more to the right of where it does now. - The Sphere area should be moved further away from the north tower (so that the invisible line along the south tower's edge would run through the center of the circle), as seen in this picture. - The nine lampposts surrounding the Sphere aren't in the lot, unless they will be added later. -

rubik, that's the one; kid_a to the rescue on that. I agree with him; maybe try to capture the trade center as we knew it in the moment of time right before the attack, with all of the renovations and configurations up to that point (for example, the spiraled arrangement of the plaza benches and plants, pictured on page 6). I like your idea of a prop pack which would include memorials, so people who want to place them would be able to. -

That looks fantastic, rubik! The Marriott might need to be slightly lowered because it was about half as tall as the lowest sky lobby of the towers ( here is a picture). Also, I'm not sure about the south tower, but the north tower had an awning at the West Street entrance (I haven't yet found pictures on the Internet; maybe DoubleJ or kid_a can help). For the plaza, will you include props like food stands and souvenir kiosks as part of the planned prop pack, or just leave the plaza as-is? -

Great pictures, Double! rubik, I came across this picture which appears to have been taken in the south tower facing the Marriott. If the wall blocking the view is part of the Marriott's entrance area, then the picture shows how close the entrance area came to the south tower. -

Here is the archived version of the website for Top of the World Trade Center. It is inevitably sad to browse through, yet enlightening in what it reveals about the activities that took place there. Thanks; I wish there were more close-up pictures of the hotel roof available. The search continues. -
Though the Statue of Liberty and pedestal are already in the game, it would be interesting to see someone incorporate those in a recreation of the entire Liberty Island, complete with the large American flag, plaza, promenade, and the star-shaped Fort Wood underneath the statue and pedestal. >

Hi Double, I enjoyed visiting the site and learning more about Team Twin Towers; I spent a lot of time there and still check in sometimes. I do have reservations about how the current rebuilding plans are being executed (Michael Arad apparently has even threatened to leave the project entirely), but I hope wisdom prevails in the end. If not, then the Plan of the People was nonetheless a noble undertaking that gave encouragement to many people. Good luck to the team as you continue to publicize the effort. -
