I was just wondering if there is any news on this. Has Focus Home responded back yet?

Retail goods are far too hard to sell. Decrease production ???
Kevin Ar18 replied to NightOfDarkness's topic in Cities XXL
Believe it or not, the satisfaction panel is not really very helpful to managing the game. Since I already addressed how to solve the retail problem (it's easy to solve), I'm guessing you are still unable to figure out elites and execs. Here's some things to check for. A few things to check: * Check the trade balance window. Is anything in the red? If so, you need to fix them. * Click on the elites and exec buildings and read about each problem. This is actually the easiest way to play the game and know what it going on. The building info will often tell you exactly the problem. Attempt to resolve the problems. * Click on other stuff (like industry, offices, etc...) and see if the info shows major troubles. * Make sure you got jobs for the execs and elites and that unemployment for them is not low. * Check your overlays (passenger service, pollution, etc...) and see if anything stands out as being bad for the exec/elites area. * Check your tax rate and how it affects your city. If you still can't figure it out, post the following screenshots: * the info panel when you click on an exec building * the info panel when you click on an elite building * the trade balance panels (both of them) * the employment stats for each type of residential -

Originally posted by: NightOfDarkness Hello, I get a msg "Retail goods are far too hard to sell. Decrease production" Whats does that mean and how do you decrease production ?? quote> Retail is bugged, or implemented very badly in CitiesXL. You only need a few high density retail zones for millions of citizens, otherwise it won't grow. Also, I have Bad reputation among Executives and Elitas. What to do to fix it. No one moves it yet factories close due to lack of executives and elitas.quote> Check the following: * Click on each zone type building (elites and execs) that is failing and read about the problems. This is actually the easiest way to play the game and know what it going on. The building info will often tell you exactly the problem; then you just get that fixed and they may start growing again. * Check your trade balance window to see if some of your cities token needs are in the red. Based on the problems, you see in the info panel, fix the red ones first. Is the issue leisre? Not enough fire or police? Build one nearby? Got a fire or police or education nearby? Build a better one and demolish the not so good one? Still not enough? Add an omni/multi-center. Maybe you need a landmark effect? or park effect? Is there pollution? etc... -
Strategyinformer has one: http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/citiesxl/review.html Here's some quotes: And sadly, for all its charm, Cities XL seems to lack a certain quality that could really give it personality. ...[paragraph follows]...quote> Even the name seems to be a bit of a misnomer. Instead of ‘Cities XL’ this game should really be called ‘Cities Lite’ as many of the micromanagement elements you could find in the SimCity series simply aren’t present. quote> On the one hand, it’s a fun, addictive little game that’s a good homage to a classic genre. On the other hand, as of publication there are still quite a few bugs and entire features that just haven’t been implemented yet.

It's the norm for the topic to deviate slightly anyways... especially while we wait for new reviews. But, yeah, your right, it's good that we don't stray too far from the original topic so people can keep adding more reviews here as they come in.

Originally posted by: Overkast Not to mention, you always have to wonder what kind of secretive kick-backs the Review Sites are getting from game developers to say good things about their game. You won't have that political BS going in in Simtropolis. quote> While I agree that such a thing can never be ruled out, I think the way game review sites handle reviews describes why they gave it a high rating: They do not look at gameplay depth. They spend only so many hours playing the basics. The reviewers play many games a little bit, instead of a few games in-detail. They do not know about the problems with the game that many people here do. They look at whether the "pretty" part of the game is fun (the part that does not involve hours, weeks, months of learning). In essence, the major review sites do show that you might have fun with the game up to a certain point (or if gamplay-depth doesn't matter). However, if you want to know if a game has lots of gameplay-depth, then you need to look at player reviews or try the game yourself, because major site reviews rarely deal with this aspect.

Originally posted by: geek12 Lets play a game. Lets pretend that i am the average, hardcore gamer. I enjoy citybuilding games and strategy games, but i'm not a hardcore SC fan. I want to buy Cities XL, i mean it did well on IGN! And i'm sure other reviews will give it similar ratings! But... At the same time i read all of these topics about how much the game stinks! Who should i believe and why? (This scenario does apply to me quite well, but i'm sure i can't be the only one!) (Assuming i HAVE played simcity, and love it. But, the IGN review did say it was moving the Genre in the right direction...)quote> Simple answer? Trust the review sites regarding how you'll feel about the game for the first week or first few months. Review site are also useful to look at games in genres you don't care much about (you are new to). Trust people here about how you will feel about this game in the long run and how you will feel about the game depth. If major game review sites give the game a good rating, and the players say the game is aweful due to lack of depth (which describes CitiesXL) then there is still a chance that you will enjoy the game if the lack of depth does not get in your way. After, all there is still some fun aspects to CitiesXL and the major reviews do reflect that. The major review sites do not put much effort into reviews, nor do they care about gameplay depth. Many spend a certain number of hours playing the basics of the game and write a review, takes some screenshots, etc.... Very, very, very few reviews on ANY major review site take the time to understand and analyze the depth of the game -- thus you can never trust a major review site to tell you if the game has any depth to it.

I was a big Caeasar and Pharoah player, and Sierra Studies did a really great job making these games. However, the Tilted Mill revamp-updated versions of these games, Children of the Nile and Caesar IV, did not hold up for me. quote> -Dirk He has spoken. quote>I'd have to agree with the Caesar IV part. They basically ruined that series, and they seem to be just cranking out similar dumbing down games by tweaking the same core engine with different graphics and gameplay. This will definitely not be SimCity; they have given enough info to show that.

I hope if they make this thing, they at least let us import old .3ds or .obj models. If not, then there will be almost no custom content for this game. I still have hope now... Please Monte Cristo make it easy to mod...quote> We should convince them to support modo then.
