My 2 cents: Based on what we've all seen and heard from the developers of Cities Unlimited to date. And, given the games current stage of development, I would definitely purchase the game. If I were to give CU the 'white glove' treatment I'd have to say that it is already superior to anything I've seen from SC4 and definitely SCS. They have done a stellar job and I take my hat off to them for stepping in when the developers of SCS let us down. I not longer play SC4 and I am patiently waiting for CU. I had read somewhere that Maxis is going to go back and give the public what they want and develop the next iteration of SC4, however, this won't be until late 2010 or more.

What are the scale dimensions of an SC4 tile?
deeejayeee replied to djlee1999's topic in SC4 Showcase
small is 1 kilometer, medium is 2 kilometers and a large city is 4 kilometers square -
If I was creating a user interface for SC1000 I would start by redoing the menu and make it more simplistic. The toolbar should be similar to what sc4. However the menu should be set up to have the ability to select the number of lanes either by selecting a number or an submenu icon. I prefer the number system since this would alleviate the need for so many submenus. For example click on the road icon and a popup or some other method would allow you to type in the number of lanes. The best part of the new interface is having the ability to draw roads on the map anyway you like similar to paint. The game would then create the road just like it does today.

Yes, I've seen these before and I can live with the textures, not being exact they are still excellent. However, they take up a lot of space and would be better if they 1 lot sizes. This would allow buildings to develop like any development along a straight road. One of the best modds I've seen for best usability was the modd 'Meadering Bike Paths' by Ardecila. In my opinion these are a superior design because one can almost stick any combination together and they seem to fit seamlessly. One could create a small set of road pieces in a similar fashion that would give us the curves we crave.

My only pet peeve with SC4 is the inability to make curved tranportation routes, i.e. road, streets, etc. Is anyone developing a system to impliment these. If not, I would be interested in modding 'roads' to start with. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to modd road puzzle pieces of different angles to make gentle curves other than the default angle of 45 degrees. If anyone has any advice or input let me know.

Yup, very nice layout...however I wouldn't substitute a divided avenue for a freeway.

Realism, Realism, Realism...I want to see citys that looks like I'm in mapquest or google earth. Also, the ability to set the height of buildings in a certain area, and to zone buildings with both commercial and residential. Most importantly a road network that is customizable like in real world with the ability to choose how many lanes, direction, sidewalks or no sidewalks, boulevards or no boulevards, paved or not. Customizable lots: golfcourses, cemeteries, malls, universities, parks, trees, trails, etc. An lastly everything the current SC4 has in 3d...except u-drive. -
Is it possible to mod avenues without a boulavard like in most cities. Also, many areas in cities don't have sidewalks. Is it possible to make areas without sidewalks?
