Is it possible to have multiple downtowns?
Defecto replied to De Ja Vu's topic in Architecture & Urban Planning
As far as you can speak about skyscrapers in Holland, Amsterdam has at least 4 skyscraper "districts" although I think it's more appropriate to call it clusters. They're near Amstel trainstation, along the A10 highway, at Sloterdijk and around the Amsterdam ArenA football stadium. Though if you look it up on google earth, it seems like half of those buildings weren't there yet. -
Reminds me of the old "Bijlmer" district in Amsterdam. Planned out so well, raised avenues, pedestrian passages going under and over those roads, residential towers with parks spread out in between the towers, and el. trains & busses driving through it. It sounds like utopia, and that's how it looked in the architects impressions. But not quite, pretty much immediately after it was completed in the 1970s it turned out to have become the benchmark ghetto of Amsterdam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bijlmer

This is great! I'm now working on recreating Gotham City with some artistic liberties. Narrowed Gotham River slightly for a more realistic look (even though you got it perfectly right according to the map!) and I added the Narrows as in the movie, which I suspect to be missing from this map due to it being based on the original version, not "Nolan's" version.

My god Joe 90, that should put anyone off from trying to make a map because it just cannot be better than yours... amazing! Is that region available for download by the way? It looks great.

Hi all, I seem to be having a problem that I only just started to realize. Cars (or traffic) doesn't seem to be able to pass over or under rail, elevated rail or monorail. I noticed this because; - cars disappear when they should pass under or over - zones that are in between these rail don't develop or develop delayed (for some reason sometimes they do develop but only after something else happens, not sure what that is) - unemployment issues with zones that did develop but cars would have to cross a rail to reach their jobs - there are no trains or other vehicles active on any of the types of rail - elev. rail, rail and monorail stations are (nearly) unused I have some mods installed, as far as I know only the standard popular ones, and nothing obscure. Anybody have any idea what the problem could be?

Cars not passing rail, el. rail, monorail

Thank you for the early answer CaptCity I was actually looking at that thread right now. Was trying to edit the game to right-hand drive, following the tutorial, because I would prefer having a right-handed game as I am not from the UK or another left-hand-drive country. However I cannot find the Maxis folder in the regedit location it says it should be, it's just not there... -
Sim City 4 Video Tutorials
Defecto replied to the_pretender90's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
These are great! I'm surprised no-one has commented yet to thank you. Especially the RHW tutorial was useful to me since I didn't know about the yellow line and on/off-ramps for example. Same goes for the sunken highway ramps. Thank you! -
Thanks, it's because of the in-game png pictures I guess, though those who commented earlier apparently were able to see them. I'll resave them as .jpg's, bare with me for a few minutes. **edit: changed the screenshots to .jpg files.

Thank you all! These are some pictures of the development of Colton and the surrounding area. Colton will be the main city on the East-Palooka peninsula and the 2nd city of the whole Palooka region. The bare beginnings: Residential development: Growing: The industrial railyard close to dirty industry: CBD developing: And here are some photos the location where the smaller town called Hunts Point will be built overlooking the Steilacoom Straight. Hunts Point will be built on a small plot of flat land between the straight and the mountains. Highway P42 runs right past this town and connects East Palooka to West Palooka. Next up, pictures of Hunts Point and of a much larger Colton.

VERY nice city, I really like the feel the place has up close. Feels very peaceful.

A few years ago I stopped playing SC4. Recently I picked up a little again and I've been searching endlessly for these park/fences that I used to use. Maybe it's my poor searching skills but I can't find it in the STEX... I don't even recall the maker if them, but they were awesome to use! Can anyone help?
-
Thank you very much both of you! And SWAT MEDIC too for the tip, although I had already tried any search term I could possibly think of. They look so much different now on the LEX than I remmeber them, would have never recognised... I had already registered there a long long time ago so I'll head on over and download them now. Thanks again!

Well, some shots of suburbs from my old city journal Stankonia of a few years ago before I stopped playing. I'll try start making some pictures of the region New Stankonia that I'm building now for this thread.

Make that "Lewis", it's been a while :$

A few years ago I started a city journal, but only made it until page 2 before I stopped playing SC4. One city called Vader grew as a very low-wealth city with dirty industry and agriculture as its main income. Here are some photos of the ghettos that grew:

Thanks tungston! Completely forgot about reinstalling the patch after installing SC4 on my new pc. I am now trying to run the game with no plugins at all too.

As I posted in the other thread I have the same problem. It happens after only a few seconds and sometimes minutes now, even without zooming or scrolling.... just letting the map run where it starts. In case it might help anyone finding a reason or solution, here's my latest exception report: Exception time: 10/02/2008, at 18:56:23. Exception code: 0xC0000005 (-1073741819) ACCESS_VIOLATION. Same problems here. I got my system last week and it seems like it's crashing to desktop more and more often. In my main region the smaller cities seem to run ok, but in my main city I can't play for more than 20 seconds today before it crashes again. Just crashes to desktop without a message or anything. Vista Home Premium 64 HP Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 2.5GHz 4GB RAM NVIDIA Geforce 9800GT 1024mb running at 1680 x 1050 on a 22inch monitor I really wonder if there's anyone with a solution to this problem, since all I've found on the internet and here are more and more people confirming the same problem

Hey all. I can't say I'm a newbie to this..... been a fan of the series since SC2000 came out and have been very active in SC4 up until 2 years ago. However now I recently got started again after reinstalling SC4 and RH I am having issues with downloaded BAT's not showing up (hell, they're called BAT's right? I'm so out of it :$) Here's what an example of some of the BAT's with issues look like in game: I have tried downloading many many dependency packs but that doesn't seem to fix it. Am I either missing a very important dependency or am I just doing something else wrong? It's kinda bugging me because some of these downloads I would really want to incorporate in my cities.

Huh?....oh hello, yeah they told me someone would come speak to me. Please let me introduce myself. My name is Jeffrey Renner, but most people call me Jay. Not really important, just call me Jay and we'll be fine. Right, on to what you want to hear... Just the other day I received a brochure in my mailbox about new city developments in a previously uninhabited region a few hundred miles down south along the coast of where I live. It promised a beautiful and unique region with endless possibilities and growth. They even provided us with an aerial map of the region before any development took place. Take a look! Aint it amazing? I don
