  1. NAM: Requests

My request is for the straight on-slope puzzle pieces to include sidewalks.
  2. I made a picture to show it better...
  3. Ok I got the road down, but do you have any tricks for the avenue T onslope? If the intersecting streets are removed, you still get an intersection there that can't be removed. Normally to remove this intersection you'd bulldoze that section of avenue and rebuild it, but in this case that also destroys the bridge section. I tried using two one-way roads side by side, but it's the same problem where I can't remove half of the T, since the neighboring one-way onslope piece is in the way. In this case the best result I can achieve leaves the avenue with a blank intersection on either side of the overpass. It doesn't look too bad though. Still looks better than having no sidewalks there.
  4. Yahoo! THank you very much! It worked perfectly. I hope this is all cleared up soon. More people should be made aware of the nice results that can be achieved with these onslope puzzle pieces.
  5. .exe

Being able to run the .exe on your Mac using an expensive x86 emulator still wouldn't do much good, since it installs files to Windows-specific pathnames. When the installer tries to put a file at C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins, first of all Mac/Unix doesn't have a C: drive, doesn't use backslash as a path separator, and certainly doesn't store user information in any place called Documents and Settings. That is all Windows-specific stuff. Secondly, running an emulator like VirtualPC takes up so much memory and time to boot up just to extract maybe one tiny file from what ought to be a simple ZIP in the first place. I can understand the frustration. And it is needless. I don't use Macs, I'm a Windows user, but I certainly don't need an exe to install a simple file into my Documents folder. I can do it myself with the ZIP format just as easily. So this exe installer format is causing needless frustration for Mac users while at the same time does nothing for the Windows people except provide a minor annoyance and an opportunity to introduce more viruses into my computer. What's the point of it? I used to use Macs a long time ago so that's where I have some sensitivity to Mac concerns. Windows people that have no Mac experience just have no sensitivity or compassion and just don't care at all. I think that is wrong.

  7. cynthia, those files comprise pretty much the whole game. If you can't get those files off the CDROM, that's almost the entire contents of the CDROM anyway. You'll have to purchase the game again. None of those files are downloadable. Sorry. As for the EA web site, the only file you really need off of there is the final patch which was released with BAT. It enables the nightlights to work on custom buildings. I wish this file was available elsewhere for download but it isn't. Alas, I've looked everywhere on all the gaming sites that distribute game patches. My buildings will remain dark because EA has effectively ended support for SC4. So if you live in a different country, got a serial number that's not in the [outdated] website database, or have some other registration issue, then you're just screwed until someone gets the balls to redistribute that patch file. I don't see what the problem is with redistributing that patch anyway. All the other SC4 patches are freely available. The only people that can use the nightlights patch are people that own a CD, and the only way you can own a CD is by owning the game. I really don't understand how keeping my buildings dark at night helps to combat software piracy, but if EA says it, then it must be true!
  8. Since this is SimCity where we love all things skyscraperish, here's the world's tallest pre-cast post-tension concrete (aka brutalist) structure located in my hometown of Jacksonville Florida. You don't find too many brutalist skyscrapers being built anymore. The visible concrete exoskeleton you see is also the only support holding the building up. Most skyscrapers have a steel skeleton inside that holds up the building, while everything you see on the outside is actually just cosmetic fluff. Not this building. You can see all of the engineering of the building exposed. The interior is hollow with no support structures, allowing full use by the occupant of whatever they want to build inside.
  9. New mod: Slope smoothing

Oh, ok this mod must load after the ANT loads. I gotcha. Sounds obvious now. heh. I put it in the folder with NAM and since it starts with 'S' it's now loading after ANT, and it's now working!
  10. New mod: Slope smoothing

Unfortunately the ANT network isn't working for me on this. It was a great idea though. When I place an ANT network, it just gives the same slope as if it were a street.
  11. Working with the slope mod

I learned just enough iLive Reader to be able to modify the values in JCS_TunnelAndSlopeMod.dat to suit me. Even then, I still need different slopes in different situations, so I have to quit out, change the slope in Reader and go back into the game. It's a pain. I wish there was a better way. Whenever there are no other buildings around, I just use the terrain tools to manually make the slope I want. When there are buildings around, I have to use the mod and pray that it gives an acceptable result. There is also a parameter in those exemplars called MaxNetworkSlopeChange that is beautiful. It makes beautiful slopes exactly the way I want them every time. Unfortunately this parameter causes the game to be unstable and it crashes often. So I had to change my MaxNetworkSlopeChange back to the defaults.
  12. New mod: Slope smoothing

Using ANT network is a great idea. I've been trying to think of a better way to do this. Seems that nearly everyone tries BRF's BRF_TunnelAndSlopeMod-b.dat first, finds that it's too realistic to work with, and ends up making their own slope mod to release. I even made my own slope mod, which is a modification of JCS_TunnelAndSlopeMod.dat (which I felt went too far the other way in Maxis' direction). Still, I find too many situations where I wish I could modify the slope numerically while in the game instead of having to quit, open up iLive, modify values, blah blah blah. I wonder if someone could make a city ordinance mod that could allow in-game modification of these values maybe with a slider, or possibly a multiple-choice selection. Hmm...
  13. Zurich SWI simplified

Thank You. I've been searching hours for a normal-sized, perfected-by-hand map with rivers, plains, highlands and large--but not too large--bodies of water. This map has everything. Beautiful.
  14. METROSUR SUBWAY STATION

I like this subway station very much. Can you make one with a bus stop on it too?
  15. For some reason in UDI there's no engine sound for the NSX, and also the icons are wrong. (When selecting cars for your MySims to drive.) Did I do something wrong?
  16. Pedestrian Bridge Pack

What would really make these shine even more would be an integrated bus stop and/or subway access!
  17. Lage Downtown School

I like this. It is more realistic because most schools in the US are actually NOT made of red brick. And it's tall enough to be convincing as a real, functional school that you might find in a modern downtown.
