spacenuteskimo : I'll say you live in Spruce Grove. I had a friend just buy a house out there. NE area of SG... For Manulife place I am using some building off the stex, I can't remember whic one, but I'm not satisfied with it...so it will charge. Boobster : the population of real Edmonton metro is 1,014,000 and mine is at around 517,000 at the moment. 1ajs : Hopefully you'll get out this way one day. Make sure its in the summer

Thank you!! I would like to thank everyone who took there time to vote for Edmonton. For everyones views, replies, and nominations it makes the hours spent on Edmonton worth it. And pushes me for the extra detail or measurement to recreate my home town. I should be putting out updates at a faster pace after Christmas. I just got a new pc, work has been busy, and with it being the holidays I haven't had that much time lately. With Edmonton being 2.5 yrs old I am about half way finished and on schedual to finish in 2008. When I started I never thaught it would take the same time to recreate Edmonton as it did to build it... City of Edmonton North Side Farms This is a small preview of an unfinished area on the north end of the map. Most of these pictures are taken between 82nd and 66th streets. These area have been recreated by using google earth and many measurements.

Spacenuteskimo : for the skyscrapers I just look for what looks the most realistic. And go with what I can find on stex. So far I am happy with some of them...and a ton of work has gone into downtown. however before I start to show alot of the main commercial area I want to tweak it just a little more... I was wondering too, what part of northern Alberta do you live in? diablo_del_bano : If you ever have questions about Edmonton just ask. this is more then a city journal. Its a source to get to know a little bit about Edmonton aswell. If you ever come here....make sure its not the winter... today was an alright day out and its -18c right now lol... +20C to 35C summers are good though. But our -40C winters at times can suck... shpangler : I was in Cold Lake this summer for the first time. its a nice area. I stopped in for lunch on my way home from Meadow Lake. Alot of the Rexall place (coliseum) is finished.... but I want to improve it before I show it. I have alot of areas that are partly done and reconizable... I just want them to be a bit better.... beesharps : I have made edmonton accuratly on ever SimCity and a few times on the first playing way back when on SNES... Starting Edmonton and doing it to my scale and acuracy takes years. If you want to start by all means I would be glad to give you a copy of my region... but to expand it north and west is not easy...you will have to place every city back in its exact place 1 by one if you shift anything in that direction. plus you are adding a ton of time onto your work load...one day I may try that. for now my recent expansion is enough... inquisitor : Thanks for your first reply here. i hope theres many more to come...

The Edmonton Eskimos win the 93rd Grey Cup After 60 minutes of what CFL fans are calling the best Grey Cup ever the game was decided in an amazing overtime. Edmonton came out with 38-35 win over Montreal. This was the 2nd time in 3yrs Edmonton beat Montreal for the Grey Cup. Vancouver put on a great Grey Cup week with just over 59,000 attending the game. This was Edmonton's 13th Grey Cup. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//map_bajsect.JPG align=baseline> Edmonton recent replies... Eurytus : The Cemetery Lots can be found on this link along with my Transportaion View Mod. I would recomend the mod to anyone... Once you use it you won't go back... https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=mine&user=9485&startrow=1&category=default&show=12 Mr Beer. : To get the large transportation view there is a program called region census. I don't know why it isn't on Simtropolis. But if I remember right its on SCC.

Edmonton Replies..... Sloppet : I am crazy hardtarget_x : you can get a copy off of me on MSN. newjersey73@hotmail.com . Please no request to email it. And its nice to see another Edmontonian viewing the CJ. As for expanding the LRT I already have. And Anthony Henday will be extended too on my game once I get better views of exact placement of it. I have to alter the LRT a little as city council is getting the plans more specified. Mr. beer : Edmontons downtown has become very lively in the last ten years. With an additional 16,000 people moving into the main downtown area. Aswell as alot of new life added to it. As for clubs downtown has it's share like any other city. But West Edmonton Mall and Whyte Ave are 2 good places to go for a party. Whyte ave is one long strip on the south side that is very trendy and has alot of shops, cafes, and clubs... Vigo_Zerox : I have a step by step tutorial a few pages back. I'm not sure exactly which one. But the short story is... Open your region folder. Then open your config with Paint. Add 1x1 red for a small city, 2x2 green for medium, and 4x4 blue for large cities. You can only add to the south or east without destroying your previously made cities. Again check out the tutorial I have....probably 3-10 pages back. Micah : Yeah those are my pictures. I have alot of my own pictures on the CJ. Every few pages I add some.

Edmonton November 22nd Record breaking winter heat... Edmonton is normally -4C for a nice day time high and night time lows of -12C or so this time of year. Even winter tempatures of -4C are amazingly rare. Today we hit +18C... along with a whole week of double digit tempatures. The river should be freezing over too but.... So I decided to go mountain biking today. Later in the year then I have even gone before. To live this far north and be mountain biking in 18C a month before Christmans is very weird. 2 years ago on the same day we had to outdoor hockey games at -29C with 55,000 people watching the likes of Wayne Gretzky play one last time along with many other legends. Many times when I go mountain biking I take pictures of Edmontons river. I have shown many nice green pictures of Edmonton over the years. Now its time to show a dreary brown November side of the city lol. Along with a small portion of the river valley. The west end of Downtown is all highrise residential towers that over looks the river valley. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20a.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20b.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20c.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20d.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20e.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20f.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20g.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20h.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//WestDowntown.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Downtown%20Sat.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Nov22%2005%20+18C%20iii.JPG align=baseline> A weird sign I seen along the way!?

For everyone who isn't Canadian, Canada has an (american style) football league, the CFL. The Edmonton Eskimos beat the BC Lions yesterday 28-23 and advancing to the finals to play the Montreal Alouttes for the 3rd time in 4yrs. Edmonton last won in 2003. Edmonton Replies.... Sloppet : I should have some more ingame pictures soon. Sorchin : West Ed is a small city with 22-25,000 employs and up to 100,000 people a day in it. Also the addition of 2 ten story towers for res and com should help your statement lol. Hyped up boy : I'm glad you enjoyed it... to me its just something to do every now and then. But many who travel here enjoy all the different attractions in that area. Mr Beer : thats not 24hrs to complete a medium map. Thats about how many hours of work go into it before I will even attemp to show it.
  14. Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a cajun taste!

I have a question.... I don't understand. This CJ is a recreation but when I looked at the maps, some or most of the main roads match up but all the other roads are nothing like the real thing? Are any of the buildings a recreation or is this a fictional remake of a city? Here is an exmaple. The main roads are roughly the same with diffs? Either way this is a great CJ and very eye pleasing but I am curious? https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//batonrou43455.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//4433.JPG align=baseline>

I check in here from time to time to see the unique aproach to a city journal and well presented graphics. There are only a handfull of city Journals I view and this one keeps me looking. I was surprised to see you take some time off. And its good to see you up and running again.

Edmonton recently opened the far southwest area of the Anthony Henday Drive. A section of ring road Edmonton is currently building. The new section includes the first road bridge spanning the North Saskatchewan river since 1968 when the Capilano was built. On my way home from West Edmonton Mall (which the outline can be seen in bright white on the maps) I drove the new stretch of freeway. I haven't seen that side of Edmonton that the Anthony Henday presents. I was shocked at the growth in that area of the city. Edmonton is currently under another construction and population boom. The difference is I see other areas grow day to day...coming across a whole new side of your hometown after 25 years is a different feeling. To create the new area I had to actualy take out roads that I had previously placed. The freeway rips right threw farms and older roads and streets. I also had to alter the map I use and do alot by eye. None the less it is very close to being as accurate as SC allows. For the river crossing I had to give up and build a land bridge. I'm happy with the way it looks. You can see how bad the angles where off on the previous version just so I could span the river.

I took my son skating for the first time today at West Edmonton Mall. He couldn't get the standing on blades part down lol... One picture is a bit fuzzy due to being zoomed in on alot.... https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Skate2.JPG align=baseline>

West Edmonton Mall - Nov 15th While at West Edmonton Mall I figured I would take some photos of the areas I visited. I can go to West Ed for hours on end without shopping. Its more a huge entertainment complex. Everything from a Casino, Waterpark, Amuesment Park, 115 places to eat, Animals, golf, you name it.... Some quick facts about the areas seen... -West Edmonton Mall is 5.3 million sq ft. And the worlds largest Mall. -The World Water Park is the worlds largest indoor water park. It is 10 acres in size, and can hold up to 5,500 people. It also includes over 15-20 waterslides and the worlds largest indoor wave pool. -The bungee jump seen at the world water park is the worlds tallest indoor bungee jump at 106 feet. -The Ice Palace is a full size NHL rink. -The Sea Caverns are home to some animals that can only be seen at the mall and no where else in Alberta. This is a small fraction of what the mall has to offer. But this is a few of the things at the mall to do on any given day... https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//WestEd1.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//WestEd2.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed3.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed4.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed5.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed6.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed7.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed8.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed9.JPG align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//West%20Ed91.JPG align=baseline>

City Center Airport 2nd draft A work in progress... This is a small update to an area I showed a while ago. I almost didn't show it because there are some small things that need fixed like the NE area of the runway and a few other things. I'm sure if you take a look you'll see where I have put in the time and effort and see the areas where I need more work. When I note an area is in a draft state it means there is still additional work and areas that need more effort for the level of recreation I am looking for. A medium map like this can take well over 24hrs of work to get any level of previewable work. Edmonton's City Center Airport is the 2nd largest of Edmonton's 4 regional airports. It handles mainly small aircraft and is home to the Edmonton Grand Prix each summer. This years Champ Car race which was also Edmontons first had the highest attendance for Champ Car (cart). The only thing I don't like about the City Center Airport is it limits our skyline to a 500ft level (approx). The Edmonton International Airport is just a few km south of my regional recreation.

Recent Replies 1ajs : I used 3 different programs and some math to figure out how to alter the angled region view to look like your directly above it. I'll still keep up my regular view updates with one of these now and then or upon request. Greenie123 : A medium map is approx. 2km by 2km in the game. The scale I use is slightly different and can be viewed on page49. tbar220 : Thanks again for taking the time to look threw the older pages. One thing about having a large CJ is newer members miss out on alot of the things that make the CJ what it is in its entirety. The Airport is a special mod that a friend gave to me. One condition was I don't share it... So I have to keep my word on that one. And as for the map. As on earlier pages you can get my email newjersey73@hotmail.com . If you contact me I can MSN it to you. I won't email it however due to being lazy. Electrocash : St. Albert isn't off by 1 degree. And thanks for noting your joking. I don't need another page dedicated to showing exactly how accurate this CJ is. As for american cities having many different suburbs that are different cities in them selves, Edmonton has annexed several cities over the past 100yrs. We still have 10-20 Cities sarounding Edmonton knowing as the Capital City region. There is talk of a few of those cities being annexed in the next few years... I can't say if it will happen. But I'm hoping it does. Also the areas with the straight roads are atleast 20yrs old if not more. The Canadian plains where at one time divided up into sections. When a large city like Edmonton was made and expanded city planners many decades ago placed major roads every two farms. Approx 17 blocks. I learned this from recreating the city and seeing how this is shown over and over threwout the city. You can also see this in the game version or real life.
  21. Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a cajun taste!

As always everything is looking great. I have a request. How about some googled zoomed in pictures of areas you have done. Its always neat to see how recreated areas are and how accurate one goes in there version.

City of Edmonton - 90 degree angle maps. I was playing around with some programs and I wanted to get the region views to look as they should from an actual satelitte picture. Here are the two region views, and the actual google view. Half of Edmonton is summer while the other is winter if your wondering about the color difference. (also when rotating, resizing, stretching, and expanding the pictures may be slightly off on either the width or hieght).
