City of Edmonton - June 12th 2006 I've spent a good amount of time for the first time in months doing some serious work in and around the region. I have placed over 15,000 new residents. And fine tuned some other residential areas and parks. Also I added some new custom lots to the my game, including the new style of baseball diamond I will be using for most parks in Edmonton. If you look at the photo above you can see it. Most school yard diamonds in Edmonton are just a backstop and maybe a bench or two. With select ones having the full infeild at other parks. Also added is the outdoor rinks.... I hesitated at first. But with Edmonton having 100 - 200 outdoor rinks at my guess I had to add them to the region. Weather they look out of place being frozen or not... Any opinions on weather I should keep the out of place but big part of Edmonton outdoor rinks? or maybe make a summer lot that is just boards and grass/cement bottom?

Page 61 Page Header : Grant MacEwen College is a large college in Edmonton with several campuses. It is also the only college in Canada that can give out doctrines in some of its classes. Its also helped developement in the 104th ave area of downtown. Everything from stores to very modern dorms. Grant MacEwen has also recieved alot of donations including a recent one from a couple in Texas for several million. This college is quickly growing and gaining a great reputation. My wife also graduated from Grant MacEwan a year ago, Go Griffins!!! GaBoR : I hope your first post isn't your last. Welcome to the City of EDMONTON. Justin82 : As always good to see you here. I like having anyone follow this CJ. But its nice to see hometown people who can see some what how it resembles the real thing. Sloppet : You had me scared tha you didn't like it.... lol

I like the choice of land for the region. A good coastal areas with some good bays and a place that can handle a large bridge or two. Also the res looks great. I need to step it up in my CJ to get my res to look as good.

Spa : I hope you had a good time in Edmonton. And as for Elk island park.... yeah those aren't much for islands....but remember the park named for Elk is full of Buffalo, so.... Yeah our river valley in areas can be a pain to get around. I remember trying to approach Telus Feild when a certain road was closed.... wasn't easy. And as for our old old electric busses which are still in use in a few areas.... I think there an eye sore. Not only the age of those busses compared to our new fleet, but all the lines that are required along streets. ThomasAH : Thanks for checking out Google earth vs this CJ. Its either living here or seeing comparisons like that, that shows the attention to some details. Rooker1 : If you ever have any questions just ask. There are certain steps you need to take in realism. Fallon144 : Canadian Bum eh... Thanks alot ;o) Frankenstein : My CJ is complete now that you have posted. Capitol 1 : Fort Edmonton has been worked on a bit....I'll have to look into those western lots to give it the right feel. I can't say for sure when I'll have that done. Frndofyaweh : Thanks for your understanding. You right when you say there is a certain method to things on a project like this... Mightygoose : It was MrCinatit's idea for the fix.... without it I on't know if it would be running again... Micah : It will probably run around 10 hours of total work to get everything resembling how I had things before... with somethings improved upon. Firebird : I'm always glad to see new people discovering and following my CJ. With taking off a few months there should be some new eyes finding this CJ now that its bumped up and rolling again.

Hawrelak Park - June 5th 2006 Hawrelak Park is located just to the south east of downtown Edmonton. Its one of Edmonton's premier and most used parks. It is host to everything from the World Cup of Triathalon to Heritage Days which is home to 58 different countries in this years event coming up in 2 months. Heritage days is a weekend festival to experience all the different cultures Edmonton has to offer. Everything you can eat, great weather, and cultures displaying what makes them unique. The park also has an amphitheater that is host to a number of other events including Shakespeare under the sky towards the end of summer. During the Christmas season you can drive threw at night and see Bright Nights. It is also part of the huge trail system that runs along the river in Edmonton. The small lake in the middle has paddle boats for rental in the summer and is a popular skating area in the winter. I hope this small update was worth the wait. I have had it sitting here for several months. Now its time for me to get working on the City some more. In the time I took off from the CJ I didn't work on the actual city much.

The City of Edmonton June 5, 2006 - TheJerseyDevil73's 1000 post. Well, I have patiently saved my 1000th Post for a reason. For anyone who doesn't know when Simtropolis transfered to Simtropolis 5.0 my City Journal was damaged quite a bit. Fixing it at first didn't seem possible. But with alot of effort and some great help from MrCinatit we should have things with in order in a few more days. Things that needed fixed - 150 to 200 pictures where lost and needed replace. Hours of looking threw old files on my PC and loading onto replies as old as 3 years ago. - 17 replies where lost in the CJ throwing off every page header I had placed at the top of eah page pain stakingly. I loaded up all 60 page headers and MrCinatit will be placing each of these at the top of each page mostly under other peoples names. - The CJ Legend. Since most of the pages are off by 17replies I had to totally remake the Legend which showed all of the CJ's content for easy reference. - Alot of the pictures where found on my PC, but a handful will be lost forever. - Going threw the CJ and deleting all the page headers that are now on wrong pages or no where near the top of any page. I have spent about 8hours so far fixing these issues. I have 9 pages left out of the 32 that are missing pictures to do. Plus the Legend. Also MrCinatit should be placing everything else in the next few days. To everyone who is a fan of this CJ thanks for your patience. I have a great update which should be up later today aswell.

This is a test reply... I have tried to fix my replies per page back to the old Simtropolis 4.0 30. But when I do, I still can't get all my page headers and pictures in place. One of the main features of this CJ was every page began with a picture of Edmonton to give people from around the world a feel for the real city. I don't know why they would take a site that was running great and do this to it. I will continue to work on Edmonton over the next few years. I don't know if Simtropolis will be part of the project. EDIT : I tried doing an update that I have been saving for a week for my 1000th post. Waiting for the site to get its forums in order. But when I try to attach photos or files or fix the views per page or anything else I get errors and road blocks. It may be one of many updates to come or my last.

I didn't want to wait to show the new content page I made. Edmonton is quickly reaching 60 pages and to keep track of pages 60 to 120 I had to make a new header. I want to bring a higher level of graphics to the CJ aswell. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//00%20BB60%20Edmonton%20Contents%20.jpg align=baseline>

Very impressive so far. I really like how you have lined up bats that are recreations of the buildings you need or buildings that are very close. I wish I had a chance to make it to Toronto just for the fact I could or would be able to reconize just a little more of your efforts. But with the use of real life pictures and you recreation you've given people the chance who haven't been there before to see your efforts. I hope this CJ continues on. Too many recreations fade away on Simtropolis.

Edmonton City Center Airport..... a look back. This is Edmonton's secondary smaller airport located just north of downtown. Also home of the Champ Car Edmonton Grand Prix. I show it from time to time for different reasons. While playing the region for a short bit today I edited a few things to bring this medium sized map closer to being finished. LoL... only on year 620 for this area of the recreation. Like I said before I want to bring more indepth coverage of how accurate this region is. I'm not saying this is overly accurate. I can point out a number of things I still want and/or need to change. But you be the judge... https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Z1%20Main%20copy%20copy.jpg align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Z2%20Google%20copy.jpg align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Z3%20Coll%20copy.jpg align=baseline>

https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//00%201%20Edmonton%20Replies.JPG align=baseline> CfnNexus : Its nice to see anyone view and reply to my CJ. But I really like seeing people from Edmonton. They can see and notice the extra lengths I go to, to make this an accurate recreation. Thank You very much for your long and in depth reply. I really enjoy when people take there time to put down what they think in more then 5 words. I haven't driven up to that 153rd ave area in a while even though its less then a km from my place. I will remake the area, and yeah I know what you mean but not being able to find any maps that go to the recent change. I should be adding onto and continueing anthony henday to H14. Keep in touch and posting. Nice to see you on here. Mr. Beer : To get the trees accurate lets just say I alt+tab with google earth alot. And trust me they may look accurate but I'm often not pleased after I lay an area to see its off in a few ways. I usually leave it a little off to save time. Sloppet : I have been to every corner of Edmonton. And I've been on almost every major road on the map. When it comes to side streets just a fraction. As for teh map this is just metro Edmonton. There is another 10-15 cities that make up the Edmonton Region a few km of the map....Anywhere from a few thousand to over 50,000 people. Canuck360 : I'm surprised your just seeing this CJ. I don't know what part of Canada your from. But I would of coarse recomend coming in the summer. Edmonton has a ton of festivals and is known as the festival city aswell as the City of Champions. There is alot to do here for a prarie city. But in all honesty in the end its no LA NY or Vancouver when it comes to tourism and things to do. If you do make it out this way make sure you include either Banff or Jasper in the trip. I woud recomend July or August. Maybe catch the Edmonotn Grand Prix, some nice weather, West Edmonton Mall, the river valley, and the Capital Exibition all around the end of July...plus alot of other things... Profecy : Thanks buddy. As a bartender your speaking my language but please edit that post if you get a chance lol.

https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Edmonton%20Devils3.jpg align=baseline> The Edmonton Jersey Devils comeback to beat there hated rivals the Boondall Mighty Frogs. The Devils top draft picks played a major role in the teams win. This should be the first win in many vs Boondall. Anyone looking to make trades PM me. -

https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//167th-Apr.jpg align=baseline> I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop and figured I would play around with it a little. It's going to take me forever to accomplish a fraction of what others have with there CJ's but I want to add some more detail to some of the photos I show. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//00%201%20Edmonton%20Replies.JPG align=baseline> Profecy : I'm glad to see how your Toronto region is coming along. Its nice to see some of the known landmarks match up well in your region aswell. I'm flattered if I could have been of any insperation. Nycsc4 : I try to use google earth as much as possible. It wasn't around when I started this CJ and has prooved to be a great tool since then. Hyped up Boy : Glad to see you back Micah : Trust me I can see a million things that are mismatched and off.... This is one reason I don't have many updates for all the land that is covered. I'm never satisfied. I put up updates from time to time when they meat a certain standard. If I had more tools and time this CJ would be alot more accurate. Nycsc4 : Edmonton is around 684sq/km. Thats only a fraction of my map and is only metro Edmonton. There is alot more to the Metro area.

Time for a new map? It's not what you think. I came across an identical copy of the map I'm using today while shopping. With some updated roads and colors. It's only possible for me to use if every thing is an exact replica of my 2003 map. But the 2006 Randy McNally uses the exact same size of map and grids. My old map was more tape then map after so many years of use. These are probably the two poorest pictures I have placed in this CJ but here is a small look at the main map I use to measure and make all of Edmonton possible to an exact scale. You can see the grids that mark where each city lies in the game. I mark these on the map for easy reference points. They follow the same grids the paper map has. A small city is 4.6cm or one small grid on the map. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Edm1aaa.jpg align=baseline> https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Edm2bbb.jpg align=baseline> I'll also be adding costum content to the map so I can do complex areas a little better. For some reason this is a 2006 map but is missing a huge area of the Anthony Henday ring road. So I have to add it to the map. Its the curved red line on the 2nd map just above in the SW corner.... https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//Henday%2024.jpg align=baseline> I haven't worked on Edmonton in the last week. But I should tonight and may have an update. thanks for keeping posted.

Some really good updates lately. I like papers added to CJ's to give them a personal perspective. There usually something that will always catch ones eye and bring them back. Also giving the CJ another added dimension. The University update kept my attention aswell. I'm really glad ot see this CJ growing again. One of ST's classics.
