  1. Tunnels won't auto create any more

No the only mod I've installed in the last 3 years or so has been the NAM mod.
  2. Tunnels won't auto create any more

OK thanks, I'll give the hole digging lots.
  3. Tunnels won't auto create any more

Thanks. Yes it does work if the mountains are steeper, has this changed recently as I'm sure I've put tunnels through less steep mountainsides?
  4. I don't know when the auto creation of tunnels stopped working for me but I'm wondering if it's after I installed the June NAM? Before this, if I drew a road, avenue or rail track through a mountain or hill it would go green and offer the tunnel option, now this isn't happening. Any ideas please?
  5. Biggest Failure of CXL?

I've deleted the demo after a day. Back to SC4 Rush Hour for me!
  6. Are you going to buy Cities XL?

No. I don't like the user interface and I have no interest in playing online so I'd be left with a game that has far less interest for me than my current Rush Hour. I was really wanting this game to be good, but for me it falls way short.
  7. Biggest Failure of CXL?

I've just had a first go with the demo and am so disappointed. I expected a lot more from this game as I've been following it for some time (like we all have!). I have no interest in playing online and just wanted something I could play single player mode. I found the interface "clunky" and unhelpful. I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to Rush Hour, but I think there are more keypresses in CXL just to do basic things and I found that bridges wouldn't connect to roads very well, which is not what I expected at all. I created a couple of zone and didn't like the way that happened, it's as if I have no control of how these are created - although I may have done something wrong in the tutorial and missed something important! Overall I've seen nothing here to temp me away from Rush Hour and I've been wanting something newer to replace that for ages. Seems like Rush Hour might be the last of a great genre of games sadly.
  8. CTD...wayyyyy too often.

I I have less crashes on my system if I disable the Logitech mouse drivers before going into the game. Might be worth trying if you have a Logitech mouse. It still crashes occasionally but not so often as it used to. I try to save using ctrl-s on a regular basis now and having pressed control-s don't move the mouse or press anything as I've had it freeze on save a few times.
  9. Search in one forum only?

Ah Ok thanks for that. At least it's not just me !!
  10. Search in one forum only?

I mostly use Firefox but I tried it with IE7 and getting the same problem.
  11. Search in one forum only?

Can anyone help here please, the advanced search still won't allow me to search in the "bugs and technical issues" forum only and it retrieves so many results that it's worthless
  12. I'm trying to search for a particular phrase in one form (Bugs & Technical Issues) but even if I just specify that forum in the advanced search it returns threads from all forums. Am I doing something silly here ?
  13. Annoying freeze/pause/slowdown

An update to this. The large city which was causing me problems just kept getting slower, so I made the decision to obliterate the city and start again. The problem is that the avenues and highways all seem offset by one tile. They appear at the edges as if they are connecting properly to the adjacent tiles but the orange arrows that accompany them are 1 tile to the left ever time. I developed the new city for a while but the traffic is only flowing one way on these connections. So I started all over again and it still had them all offset by one tile and when I try on some of the connections to put a new one in where those arrows are appearing it doesn't give me the option of creating a connection. I'm totally confused now.
  14. Annoying freeze/pause/slowdown

Actually, thinking about it a bit more, I would have written a "compact and repair" utility similar to the one you get with access databases which might have sorted this problem out without having to keep doing a defrag
  15. Annoying freeze/pause/slowdown

My programming started in the days of cpm and I still think the best OS for me was multi-user DOS where many prorams ran concurrently in 256Kb RAM Yes I do realise that Windows is a very wasteful operating system as Inow have to write in VB or other such languages rather than my good old favourite Cobol or Fortean, but I've never had problems with writing files where it's meant having to defrag every weekk. Then again I know nothing of how this program was written or the internal workings of it so I can't really comment I'm just still slightly frustrated with very long load and save times and crashes as I still believe this game is bloody brilliant. Sorry if any of my comments have caused offence, none was meant.
