  1. Double-Deck Bridge Experiment

jeronij - I go to Hong Kong in a few days. The good news is that I will probably cross over and under at least a few times since it forms the main route to the airport. I may be able to get some pictures of the anchorages and other parts of the bridge if you'd like. Bad news is that I will probably cross at the worst time of day (after midnight). :\
  2. Responses: Thanks so much for posting sloppet, codythemonkey, A199999999 and praiodan. newy2 - Thanks, glad you like it. I'm still working on improving presentation. Gridlock - Welcome to Encounter Bay. It's large and getting larger, I got a special presentation to make right at the bottom of this post. Simen - I do agree I need more BATs, but my plugins folder is bursting at over 1GB and combined with a huge region folder it's hard trying to find more space to squeeze new ones in. I'm sure I'll find more space soon though. phattonez - There's a few steps to creating the freeway in the image: 1. Draw two ground level highways parallel to each other with no gap between them. 2. Draw an elevated highway through the middle 2 tiles so that the ends r 1 tile longer than the ground level highways. 3. Delete the elevated highway with care. You can do whatever you want with the middle two tiles, in this case I put in another ground level highway. And now for possibly the final update for a week while I'm away: THE TOP THREE PLACES TO SEE IN ENCOUNTER BAY!!! Places 4-10 can be found in the previous two updates. Starting from... NUMBER 3!!! A recently redeveloped piece of land, once thought of as the biggest industrial wasteland in Encounter Bay... Longcaster's East End! With redevelopment taking place over the past couple of decades, the East of Longcaster in the western suburbs has become one of the biggest playgrounds for residents. The waterfront has been redeveloped and new offices, residences and shops have opened across the district. Even today the project is still under construction, with work being undertaken further up and down river. It is one day envisioned that the entire waterfront between downtown and the far western suburbs will have walkways and parklands. NUMBER 2!!! Easily the biggest shopping district in the Encounter Bay area with hundreds of thousands of jobs in the retail sector here and millions more visiting on a weekly basis. This giant of a retail focussed district is... Pacifica's North Shore! Ever since the western suburbs began rapid growth in the early 1900s, this district has growth rapidly with it. The Depression of the 1930s threatened to force thousands of shops here to close and the entire district to abandon, but many shops fought and survived, many even to this day. The area claims to be a district for all people, and offers many services not found elsewhere in the city or the world. And now for NUMBER 1!!! Number 1?... Number 1?!... Oh, there it is... The highest point in central Encounter Bay... easily the biggest tourist attraction... all the locals are familiar with it... THE CENTRAL OBSERVATION TOWER! Located on a peak in the hills behind Central, the Central Observation Tower has 360 views all over Encounter Bay and beyond. Because it is so high above the city streets, it is also possible to look down into the canyons of Central, and Back Bay on the other side of the hills. The Central Observation Tower opened in 1976 after being converted from a disused fire watch tower to it's current state as the highest observation tower in Encounter Bay. The tower itself was built in 1878 and is one of only a handful of buildings constructed before the 20th century that still stand today. And finally, the locations of the three biggest drawcards: BONUS!!! A SPECIAL FROM THIS MORNING! THE POPULATION HAS REACHED 12 MILLION PEOPLE! And a sattellite view: AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: There will be no updates until at least the 25th, since I am away on holidays. The following updated will occur on return: *CIVIL WORKS: MAJOR PROJECTS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION OR RECENTLY COMPLETED *COMPARE AND CONTRAST: HONG KONG AND ENCOUNTER BAY Hope to see you soon. Thank you for reading.
  3. Mt.Hope. A city of hope and mountians

Those pictures look great, this one looks like it fits in well with the terrain that you've created: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//d-day%20bunker%20fireing.jpg align=baseline> Keep going, the storyline is getting more interesting! Might want to add more pics from your actual region though.
  4. Thanks for the replies. And now for some feedback: jacqulina - Thanks for the comments. Putting together the transport network is probably my favourite aspect of putting my city together. Bluescene - Welcome to Encounter Bay. Glad to hear you like the islands. oroen - Thanks and welcome. I thought the Kennedy Expressway had it's offramps in the middle though? Codythefunkymonkey and newy2 - Cheers guys! A199999999 - Cheers. The city is pretty much at 12 million now. Praiodan - Cheers! dev - Welcome to Encounter Bay! I have considered using a water mod, and also even a terrain and slope mod. I may introduce them later on. Encounter Bay may look organised in the images, but parts of the city are still far from it. And now back to business! THE TOP TEN SITES AND SOUNDS OF ENCOUNTER BAY CONTINUES!!! Places 8-10 can be found on the previous update. Continuing from... NUMBER 7! It may just be that you have to pass through here, or that you want to... It's the Wylee-Ingside Airport and surrounds. Located in the western suburbs about 15km from downtown, the Wylee-Ingside airport serves more than just commuters. It is also home to the largest sprawl mall in Encounter Bay, which also has a large swimming centre and snow ramp under it's roof! Note: The mall was constructed to fund the new airport. This first shot is from 1978: The airport itself, which contains more shops: NUMBER 6! This very relaxing ride goes around the centre of the city. It is... The Bay Islands Cruise Ship! This cruise ship does a loop in the waterways around the inner city/downtown area and takes in the views of the islands that make up central Encounter Bay. It departs the main cruise dock at Middle Central 4 times a day and each cruise goes for around 90 minutes. Pictures showing it's course and the areas it passes though, this is the REAL downtown and inner city: There are many other cruise operators that also operate services up the Encounter River, and to Royal Gardens in the southeast. NUMBER 5! For those who feel they need to get away from the urban just for a little while longer... While most of the inner city and downtown area of Encounter Bay is heavily built up, the compant Back Bay Zoo is built on the sides of the hillsides that dominate the island. The zoo is also a popular spot for those who want to lookout over the city and across the waterways. NUMBER 4! A place that every single tourist should visit for those gadgets that can't be bought elsewhere... Located in the inner west in Combino Bay is the district of Electric City, a.k.a Gadgets Quarters. The area has hundreds of stores that sell lots of electronic and electrical gadgets that were manufactured in Encounter Bay industries, but were never released to the world as mass produced products. The district has easy access by ferry, the metro, rail, bus and the monorail! This area has been recently redeveloped. Finally, an overview of the locations of the top 10 locations announced so far: 10 - Crazy World Theme Park 9 - The Canal Islands 8 - Front Bay 7 - Wylee-Ingside Airport District 6 - Bay Islands Cruises 5 - Back Bay Zoo 4 - Electric City Coming up... the top 3 places to see in Encounter Bay including: *A view not to forget! *The biggest retail therapy! *A walk on the water...
  5. Athenia - A Historical Journey

Woah, that terrain is absolutely awesome! And I love the way you've placed monumental style lots across the region like the sundial. This looks like a bit of a headache for commuters : http://www.imgcity.net/server/primary/MecikoCity_OldPhotoofLoop.jpg align=baseline>
  6. Cadott Bay

Wow, that work is absolutely stunning! The buildings and the waterfront areas remind me so much of Paris!
  7. Mt.Hope. A city of hope and mountians

Love the use of the terrain in the defence of the area! Some of the images could be a bit larger though.
  8. Thanks for all the support guys! And now for some feedback: newy2 - Thanks so much for posting and helping me with my CJ wherever possible. storms991 and Glenni - Welcome to Encounter Bay and enjoy your stay! Rymac91 - I'm aware that many people are lazy to reply to CJs, but I'd still like a bit more opinion of all sorts. Thanks for the support. Simen - My plugins folder is already bursting at the seams. It's 1.1 GB. It's hard stopping some of the repetitiveness although it's becomes far less common. In case your wondering the population is just over 11.9 million. Jacqulina - Cheers Jac! Cjah - Thanks a ton! The transport network in some of these newly developing areas is starting to become quite intense. Codythemonkey - Cheers! A199999999 - The locals pronounce it as Tea-ring-pilly. It used to be farmland when it was first settled, and tea leaves were grown there. Praiodan - The Teeringpilly redevelopment is a tad too repetitive for my liking. The residential demand across the entire region is absolutely crazy. In many parts it is beyond what the bars can show. And now for a new short series! Encounter Bay presents... THE TOP TEN SITES AND SOUNDS OF ENCOUNTER BAY!!! Counting down from number ten, this short 3 part series features the ten best places that any tourist must see when visiting Encounter Bay. Starting with... NUMBER 10! It's not for the faint hearted... With some of the fastest rides in the world, the Crazy World Theme Park is among the most recognised theme parks in the world. The latest roller coaster, The Zipper, opened in 2003. The Zipper goes from 0-100km/h in just 2 seconds! For those not looking for a super thriller, the Bay Aquarium is located next door and features thousands of sea creatures on display in the above and below ground viewing areas. There are also many shows featuring animals such as the dolphins each day. Open 9am-10pm every day except Christmas Day NUMBER 9! A relaxed paradise in the middle of a chaotic city... Recently completed, the Canal Islands represents a first of many such island type communities to follow in the Encounter Bay area. The islands cater for all types of people. There are blocks of shopping on the islands with products that can not be bought elsewhere, not even other parts of Encounter Bay. There are regular wakeboarding shows on the coast of Rednella Island. Also the Xtreme Jet Boat which departs from Eaglehawk Island every 30 minutes reaching speeds of 80km/h and going on a wild ride around The Gap. The islands feature a convention centre which showcases new technology every week. The Canal Islands is easily accessible by ferry from the western suburbs and the inner city/downtown areas and by train to Rednella Bridge Station with a free shuttle bus connecting from the station. NUMBER 8! One of the largest retail districts in Encounter Bay... The district of Front Bay, located 5km west from Central, is one of the largest and busiest retail districts in the entire city. Front Bay is literally a city within a city. While most of the shops are open 18-20 hours a day, several department stores boast 24 hour non-stop business. Many of the largest department stores are located along Elkhorn Street. Come with a decent sized wallet or purse, otherwise it may be well and truly empty within the first hour of shopping in the area. The areas around the Back Bay Bypass, the freeway itself and the waterfront have been redeveloped recently to allow Front Bay to maintain it's edge over competing retail districts elsewhere. Coming up in part two... *A relaxing trip through Encounter Bay's lifeline... *A district for the fans of gadgets *A bit of the rural amongst the urban *A travellers hell and paradise all in one
  9. 144 Large Cities in a single region

Someone called for a 12x12 large city region? This is Encounter Bay with 45 out of 144 cities developed. No cheats were used. The population is 11.9 million. This was the config: http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid48/p9b8632e76fab605c64683614ec22844c/fcbecb1d.gif.thumb.jpg align=baseline>
  10. Simens SC4 Photo Album

The way you've decorated your transport network in some areas is actually quite fascinating. The way you created those twin tunnel portals for your rail network and how you've shown the construvtion of a subway tunnel taking place. Keep at it!
  11. NORTHERN AND EASTERN SUBURBS: THE BAYLANDS, PORTSEA and DETLIF SHIRES While the already heavily developed areas in the inner city and the western districts continue to account for most of Encounter Bay's growth, there has been a shift towards growth in new suburbs as more residents look for quiter parts of the city to live in. In 1980, about 5% of the population growth occurred in new suburbs. In 2005 that figure was just under 10%. Like the far southwestern and northwestern suburbs, the northern and eastern suburbs continue to grow outward at a steady pace. Three of the fastest growing shires are The Baylands, Portsea and Detlif. The Baylands Portsea Detlif Don't forget you can find all this and more at the Encounter Bay City Website here: http://www.freewebs.com/norwoodman/ Next update: Top Ten Places to See in Encounter Bay
  12. What a good turnout. This CJ is now closed immediately. Not that anyone obviously gives a damn. Obviously noone cares about the effort that goes into making a large functional region with no cheats. You know what? Some of you guys are absolute rubbish. I'm sorry I didn't make a perfectly clean, American/European based, perfect city (or rural area) with only tall buildings in 1 place, no grid and suburbs around it. It would help a damn lot if people even constructively criticised my efforts. RANT OVER! EDITTED hours later: This CJ is NOT finished. I came in here in a rather ugly mood earlier completely out of whack (from B'day celebrating). I can't believe some of my own stuff that was written above. I'm well and truly ashamed of myself. Apologises to anyone who I upset.
  13. B'DAY SPECIAL!!! Not officially the next update yet (which will be tomorrow probably), but the region growth animation has been updated with another new frame: The last frame to be added (pop: 11.7 million): Enjoy!
  14. Mt.Hope. A city of hope and mountians

Wow, you've done a superb job building on some relatively hilly terrain. Love the naval port! And keep the war story coming!
  15. SYM Prod Roundabouts

They fit in so damn well with the roundabouts!
  16. WELCOME TO PAGE 5!!! CANAL ISLANDS PROJECT: A WORK IN PROGRESS Over the past couple of years, the Canal Islands were constructed off the coast near The Gap. The project consists of 4 islands: Ginesa, Rednella, Cove and Eaglehawk. Ginesa Island features commercial development and an exhibition hall, while the other three islands are residential. The address is now seen as one of the most luxurious, and many families hop down to the islands for weekends to shop and to enjoy the water as do many tourists. There are plans to expand Eaglehawk Island again. These images are in chronological order from the middle of construction to it's first developments. After the Canal Island's first development began: Next update: Northern and Eastern Suburbs - Portsea, The Baylands and Detlif Shires Don't forget you can find more on Encounter Bay on the website: http://www.freewebs.com/norwoodman/
  17. The responses! Newy2 + jacqulina + praiodan - Thanks a ton for replying! Zelgadis + Frymon + gggg - Thanks for replying, welcome to Encounter Bay! 1ajs - Yeh, it's grown quite a lot outward, even though most of the growth is still occurring in areas already built up. Cjah - Yeh, love it. Fischbob - Thanks a ton for the tip. I dled the file this morning, but the airport's are still missing their foyers. lol PennDOTguy - I used a program called Region Census. You won't find it on the STEX, but you might be able to find it at SimCity Central or elsewhere where you can download it. The animation was made up of 4 images, each taken using Save Image option in the program. The images were taken over certain period across about 2 months of play. I then compiled each of the images and used them as individual frames in a program called Animation Shop in the order of which the images were taken to produce the current animation. Hope that helps. An IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - This CJ WILL CONTINUE into February, and probably into March as well. It may continue beyond that. Don't forget that you can see more of Encounter Bay on the newly opened website at http://www.freewebs.com/norwoodman/ The next update will be in a few hours.
  18. BONUS: How Encounter Bay has grown in the past one to two decades align=baseline> The population in the first frame was 10 million. In the last frame the pop is 11.5 million.
  19. The next update will be later today (US times). I have opened a website where the updates will continue beyond January should this CJ come to a close which you can also access through my signature: http://www.freewebs.com/norwoodman/index.htm
  20. I'm not having the same problem as every1 else. Mine functions properly, no crashes or anything and people are using it, but see if you can spot the problem here. Has anyone else had this hilarious problem? align=baseline>
  21. LOL! Thanx so much for pointing that out! Didn't even realise it! Funny thing is it still functions and the convention center still appears properly. I'm searching to find the problem.
  22. Untangling the transport network: MetAirports Before 1980, Encounter Bay's metro area had more than a dozen commercial airports in operation. They caused many problems regarding height restrictions that they caused to be imposed across the city, and also problems regarding interchanging between domestic and international flights. Few of them could expand because built up areas were built too close. In 1978, 3 large new airports were announced to replace 5 existing airports in the city and to allow the downgrading of a 6th. The improvements that would be seen by the MetAirports project were as follows: - Increased capacity - Allow for the removal of height restrictions in building codes over some areas - Allow for easier interchanging between flights - Allow for existing airports to be redeveloped for other functions - Better transport links between airports and to the city Larger map: http://img487.imageshack.us/my.php?image=encounterbayairports1hf.jpg The 3 new international airports that have been commissioned are as follows: Wylee-Ingside International Airport, Buckley Grove (1985) Wylee-Ingside International Airport was the first of the three new airports to be commissioned in 1985. Originally only seeing up to 30 flights a day, the number of passengers using the airports each day has increased to the point where in 2005 it saw more than 250 flights per day. At the moment this is the busiest of the 3 airports. There is currently a proposal to add another runway to the airport and to build a second terminal next door. The airport is connected by road and by rail by local and express train services. Kingston Airport, South Valentine (1993) Kingston Airport was originally proposed to be located in Westhill but the location was deemed too far from the city and downtown to be easily accessible. The airport's proposed location was moved about 5km east to it's current location in 1988 and the proposal was given approval. Construction began in late 1989 and was completed in 1992. The first flights however commenced on January 1st in 1993. The nearby Birkenhead Airport was shut down and demolished by implosion later that year. Land has been reserved on the eastern side for a second terminal and for extra runways but there has been no official proposal to expand the airport yet. Like the other 2 international airports, Kingston Airport is connected by road and to the suburban and intercity rail network, but it is the only one to the city's subway network. Detlif Airport, Detlif (2004) Detlif Airport is the most recent of the new airports, and is the nations newest airport. Unlike the other two airports, this airport is located in the eastern suburbs. Also unlike the other two airports, this one was funded entirely by the private sector. To recoop the cost of building the airport, a new commercial district and an industrial area have been constructed as part of the project. The airport itself is open for business, but the entire project is still not complete. NEXT UPDATE: An update on the construction of the Canal Islands Project.
  23. Thanks for your support guys. Notice: Due to the obvious dislike of Encounter Bay and a complete lack of responses, this CJ will probably stop being updated by the beginning on February. The city will however continue with no CJ updates beyond then unless otherwise. The city obviously does not meet the tastes of the Simtropolis population, and a new CJ will be started with a complete contrast to Encounter Bay. Once again, thanks to the very few of you who have supported this CJ in its second life.

  25. Joeynymets highway signs requests

I'd like to request a few more Australian signs for use. This first one could be used on an avenue about to cross under a highway (freeway), but with only 1 arrow, and no route number. http://expressway.mediaweavers.com.au/albums/InformationSigns/directional4.png align=baseline> I'd also like a variation of this sign. If possible, i'd like to see the following changes: - M1 replace the 153 - City 14 http://expressway.mediaweavers.com.au/albums/InformationSigns/distances.png align=baseline> This would be good to (no variation): http://expressway.mediaweavers.com.au/albums/InformationSigns/stackwithroad.png align=baseline>
