is it multiplayers? playing against other human players on earth? I don't play much games, but I think multiplayers games are much more challenging than playing on your own against the computer AI. it's just me. I have heard of the Civilization series but have not played any of them. I would like a game like SimCity incorporated in Simcountry. just really bugs me that things are not to scale? why are the humans almost as big as the buildings, and so on?

A thread for the discussion of a independent project to make 'Simcity 5'
CharlieX replied to Mark Waybill's topic in City-Building Games
thanks for the link, interesting concept. I will read more when I have times. but reading some of his traffic concepts really frustrated me, so I don't want to get too stressed -
any good game out there that use SimCity as the foundation, meaning no limitation to how big an area you can build on. good graphics and multiplayers would be excellent

A thread for the discussion of a independent project to make 'Simcity 5'
CharlieX replied to Mark Waybill's topic in City-Building Games
okay, I actually read most of the posts in this threat. great discussion, so I am wondering where this project is at the moment or will it be a project? I played the first version of SimCity when I was in university, and for whatever reason this game has somehow directed me to become a civil engineer, from my physics and chemical engineering originally. I have not played any of the later version of SimCity nor the SimCity series. I've bought SimCity 5 version for my boy and was quiet disappointed, as it seems too complicated to play. since them I have been hunting for a city or nation building game, thus I came upon the game simcountry which played for awhile now but the publisher/owner of this game has very poor customer service towards players. I have spent quiet a chunk of USD on simcountry, so you might say i'm a bit addicted to it. this game though is no where near the attractiveness and details of SimCity. nonetheless, I think it would be awesome to combine these two games, using SimCity as the foundation of the game while simcountry as the birdeye view of the game. a new game that I have been contemplating for several years now is using the earth and the planets in our solar system as the model playground for the game. in a way, it would be an alternative of our existing solar system. everything will be the same as our existing, except this is a game. I don't want too much imagination of sci-fic worlds, like many of the existing games out there. so this game will start out with humans on the earth. it would be at a simulation timeline of say five real earth minutes be one month on this alter-earth; similar to simcountry in the way of products and services, military and politics, and so on. a player will start out similar to SimCity in which the player will build roads, water treatment plants, electricity and power stations, and so on. say each player gets a plot of land of say 10 km by 10 km to start, then the player could add more land to this initial land. the addition of new land can either be by paying God (who would be the owner of this game) or by going to war with the player who current own the land the player wants, similar to simcountry war concepts. that means each player can win or loss their land at the rate of whatever the other player could conquer and control thru wars. playing the first version SimCity, I really like those little square, so the details of the landscape or any object will be base on the metric system (so you Americans need to learn the beautiful metric system) for this game. everything could be as details as we have on our real earth, such as cars be 6 meters long, and so on. more can be explore here on the details I can go on about my game concept above, but let's get back to this thread so how many people are interested to start this game similar to SimCity? if there are enough people interested in this project, I think the better solution would be to approach the existing game publishers/developers, so no new skills will be needed to do this game by those of us who wants to own this game. I don't know much about computers or games, but I think the learning curve for anything is much steeper than most people think or what they could devote themselves to learn the new skills, i.e. programming? ideally, it would best be to form a company to be based in America (though I'm not in America) to own this project or this game. the people who contribute money to develop this game will be shareholders, say at the rate of $1 USD contribution be ownership of one share; there is no limit to how many shares you want to own, whether that be one share or one million shares. the company will be run democratically, that for each share you own then you get one vote on any issue that is put to vote. I don't know how much will cost to develop this game or how much cost to run it. one thing that I don't want is the limitation on the number of players that can play this game at any time. players can play as presidents or ceos in this game, or whatever names you want to be called. as I've said, I am a civil engineer, for nearly twenty years now. I have worked in nearly every aspect of the civil engineering field, except high rise developments. I am well competent in transportation engineering, traffic engineering, road designs, road and building construction, and so on. I also have a MBA in Project Management as well. I would definitely welcome the chance to be a part in the development of this game and also to be one of its owners. Once the game is established, there will be endless opportunities to market the game for real world applications as some of you already mentioned in this thread. there are some very critical things to get in order, or critical paths to navigate. first thing would be "WHY" do you want to do this, second thing will be "MONEY" to do this. in my view if your "WHY" does not equal "PASSION" then you're not really into this project. I don't know how much the development cost was for SimCity, but I don't think it's above $100M USD? but if we needed say $100M USD, how many people can we realistically get from all the humans on this real earth? the suggested $100 USD per owner as initial capital would be a good start. before we approach the game publishers/developers, I think we should have at least $1M in the bank? that means we'll need 10,000 persons at $100 each. I will be one of this person. sorry for the long post, but i'm very excited please keep this thread going.......... sorry for the typos, misspellings, etc on my above post....just too excited for this project
