  1. Blueprints out! Who got lucky?

Quite simply, today they've started the blue print distribution. I got quite lucky and got 2 blueprints. Saint Basil's Cathedral (+15% Landmark, +15% Leisure satisfaction, +1% Elites satisfaction) Big Ben (+20% Landmark, +10% Educations satisfaction, +3% Elites satisfaction) I think I'm going to build Saint Basil's, I always loved its architecture and it's one of my favourite buildings in the world. Though Big Ben gives bigger bonuses, I own the limited edition so if/when I hit 1million I can build Big Ben anyway. :3
  2. Future Megastructures

Ah, wanting stuff. We all want stuff. Such as our own local, regional, or country monuments and tourist attractions in out games. So today's question is; what mega structure/blueprint do you want to see added into Cities XL next? But before anyone starts listing off monument after monument after monument, some rules! 1) You may only list 1 structure, 2) You must include 1 picture of said structure for everyone who might not be familiar with it, 3) Remember the 600x800 or 800x600 file size limits. ------------------------------------------- Mine is simple, I would like to see the CN Tower, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is considered one of the world's tallest buildings. Though the area has never experienced an earthquake, the tower was constructed to withstand an earthquake up to a 5.0 magnitude. When it was initially proposed for construction, a smear campaign by "concerned citizens" occurred where a photograph of Toronto from the air was painted with a large circle labelled "the fall zone", illustrating the area the tower could fall over in. Image: The CN Tower is located next to the Skydome (a multi-purpose stadium with retractable roof) in Toronto's lakefront downtown area. --------------------------------------------------------- And just for those interested... CURRENT LIST OF MEGASTRUCTURES: 30 St. Mary Axe Alcatraz Big Ben & Parliament Chichen Itza Christ the Redeemer Eiffel Tower Notre Dame de Paris Rijksmuseum Rhodes Colossus Sacré-Coeur Saint Basil’s Cathedral St. Patrick’s Cathedral Statue of Liberty Tokyo Imperial Palace Tokyo Tower LISTED BUT NOT SEEN: Chrysler Tower Empire State Building UPCOMING LIST OF MEGASTRUCTURES: Stadium - Baseball Stadium - Football (American) Stadium - Football (Soccer)
  3. The (un)fulfilled expectations?

You, sir, have created one of the most well thought out posts I have seen here in a good long while. It's refreshing. In short, I agree with every point you've made. To Xannepan; mods will be allowed for solo play (and welcomed; by their own statements) after they've managed to split the game's solo and online play so that mods that people want affect only solo play and not online so that there are no chances of people cheating. But you are correct, at this time mods aren't allowed until they solve the above mentioned problem.
  4. First impression of the buses?

Fantastic. I love them. Especially watching them while they work. I can't wait to see what else they add to busses since it was mentioned they're working on more to add to it.
  5. How MC should do things.(Please read MC)

And then the servers go to crap because the fees don't cover their tip-top operation so the service becomes lax. Or the packs become much more expensive then a simple monthly fee (under 10$ subbed) because they can't factor in any steady income into their business plans. Your suggestion benefits only the solo players, not those playing PO and isn't a solid business plan. Sorry. :\
  6. Take a video bus ride

For those asking and to expand on Pete's post above. Here is an example of an articulate (bendy) bus, care of the BBC: A real life example:

  8. Bus System will be released in early December

If we do indeed get to design bus routes and such, and if they have an actual impact on businesses, traffic, etc. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if they increased the negative impact of traffic in order to nudge players into using buses and not just rely on roads alone as we currently are. Afterall, we've seen that it's possible to build huge cities without busses. Making it harder to do so would seem the next logical step with the introduction of something with that purpose in mind.
  9. Road placement and replacement

The problem you mention Solt is caused because the edges don't reach the centre of the new road or creates an adequate intersection. You need to either extend the tiny parts that protrude all the way across, or demo them and rebuild them after building your new, wider road.
  10. Road placement and replacement

Roads DO 'snap' to existing buildings. Use the 8 direction road tool and move your cursor next to an existing building, NOT at the corner. The active, correctly placed, cursor will centre the road at the perfect distance from the building.
  11. Trading

I'm going to say it now, just as I've said it to Phillippe when it was brought up in chat. Penalties on cancelling trades, is bad. Especially for people who are building megastructures, and if you're online, odds are you will be. Phase one of more than half of megastructures requires 50 offices. Fifty. And this phase can be completed within a day. 24 hours at most, less than 15 minutes in the least. By instituting penalties you'd be forcing the people who bought these 50 offices, and deterring them from selling them, rending their cities useless because of the abundance of offices they're now stuck with. Phillippe had mentioned "just resale them" but that doesn't work either. Because now you're wasting 100 trade slots just to buy 50 and sell 50. And what happens when your initial purchases expire and you're forced to cancel the 50 sold offices? You either have to source yet another 50 or take a penalty anyway. Not to mention that you'd then be playing the "I bought fifty at X I must sell them for X and not X minus 5 or else I'll lose even more money." circular problem. The people who complain that it isn't fair, or that they can't play because they can't sell their tokens, fail to realise or mention that they can all instantly turn around and sell those tokens to omnicorp. That's what they're there for. :\
  12. a couple things that don't make sense...

I honestly don't see the need to separate these things into more categories, or make them income driven instead of publicly financed. They're all designed to offer a leisure service, and splitting them into an additional 2 categories just for "privately owned" would almost guarantee having to put a limit on them because they're giving income and offering a benefit (like the Ford Dealer, you can only have 1 per city). I dunno, overall this subject in question just seems to be nit-picking a system that works fine overall. I mean, would you rather just have a "small basketball court", "medium basketball court" and "large basketball court", or have visually distinct options that aren't just more of the same at their core. Myself, I prefer the later.
  13. So, let me understand you.... You want to create a sixth set of city connections JUST for power. (IE: Road is 1, highway is 2, train is 3(not yet introduced), sea is 4, plane is 5). And how would you propose such a thing, and why would you bother? If you want power lines, than we're reverting back to Sim City and it's need to contribute large areas across the map for power lines. Not only that, but it'd be redundant just to place powerlines just to create a "power connection", you'd have to then create a connection system for it to make SENSE. To be honest, that's just too much work for too little in return. It doesn't hurt anyone for power tokens to be counted as freight, and you achieve the same effect without having to worry about power lines and a powergrid.
  14. Megastructures

Megastructures are online only. You may get landmarks in both modes, but they aren't the same.

  16. What should the next content pack be?

Back on topic- One other thing I'd like to see, and keep seeing, is MC keep us in the loop as they've been doing. Not just springing what's in the next content patch when it's almost on us, but keep ahead of the curve. Giving us multiple months and keeping ahead of it. 3 months would be grand, just as it was when it all started. It gives you something to salivate for in the long run.
  17. Future Megastructures

Wrong thread Aleks. This is megastructure talk, not transit. :\
  18. Future Megastructures

There are plenty of structures that they still haven't released yet, but we know are mostly done. For example, the Sydney Opera House is even featured in the game manual, and Globex did find Neushwanstein in the game files. But I see no harm in asking or stating you'd like to see them next. Afterall, MC can't read our minds and if lots of people want specific structuctures out next, there's a greater chance it would be if they know people were waiting for/wanting them. :3
  19. What should the next content pack be?

I feel they are needed just as much as transit (which we already know is coming). The theme packs allow people to give more character to their city than you would see just using the regular building style. To be able to add your own little china town, or create a nice country hamlet just isn't the same if you use regular buildings. And more character, more choices and options, are always good to have. So though you (and many other transit advocates) might not see the need for them, some of us do and we quite enjoy them.
  20. Police Stations, Fire Stations, etc.

The larger ones are more efficient than the smaller ones and scale up nicely. But, they will not cover the entire map, even in the dead centre. So if you've got your city distributed in a few different places around the map, you'll have to have more than one set of services, which make actually be more cost effective to use the smaller, cheaper versions spread out.
  21. What should the next content pack be?

I'm going to guess you mean after the current scheduled packs. I also am assuming that we're going to see a rather steady flow of new mega structures, mass transit options, etc. You know, the stuff we've already seen and what we know is already coming. I definitely would like to see more theme packs based on culture, shape, or architecture themes. Especially so if they remain the same size and quality we've seen with the medieval and expect with china town. I would also like to see more fill textures to pick from, more road textures (such as "fancy" brick roads), and more general use buildings all around (different school models, more high density models, etc.). And in the future, I'd like to see them add more content that enhances the planet view. Give it more purpose(forming countries for bonuses or other such things) and options (hiding offline cities from view, for example).
  22. Terraforming

The only terraforming you can do at this time is flatten. The tool in 3 sizes is under the terraforming tab.
  23. Blueprints

Great minds think alike it seems. I put a list of all these together not too long ago and I'm in the process of making some handy flashcards for 'em. Still need a bit of work. But here's a preview for those interested. Still a work in preview and a couple things have changed since this was taken. But you get the jist of it.
  24. Future Megastructures

And for those who haven't seen it. The Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong. I think it looks weird myself. XD
  25. Future Megastructures

Not seen it myself, but if it's in game it's a landmark Globex, not a mega structure.
