    for number of days now devs talking about big update that is about to be released.
  2. yeah part of problem is that game developers are not the same as business application developers or systems developers so threading appears to be heard for them also they tend to continue to use the same old way, which goes back to same days of gaming if u pick up a book on gaming u will see this and they continue to use the same old engines. simcity really evolved version of sims 3 / spores engine, down to the archive format and yes its time that games move to 64 bit and native threading. sadly it will take time and a new generation of game developers and game engines. even unreal 4 with all the eye candy is still single threaded! part of problem is the use of 32-bit interpreted scripting languages for the game logic that do not support native threading and that do not have native compilers or jits!
  3. honestly there is no memory leak what there is is that, like most other games including latest simcity, the game logic runs on a single thread so as the cities grows and becomes more complex it slows down u can imagine that there is only so much a single core can do anyways no easy fix, most games including civilization, simcity, even arma 3 have this problem

    actually i did my test after reading that article i wanted to see if it was true what was being posted, so my tests goes to extremes doesnt even have parks. i wanted to prove to myself that there is no there there. regardless of how bad u do things u will always win just about the same as if u worked very hard at making wonderful city. so it makes little sense to work hard to make iwonderful city since all roads lead to u have a packed city and lots of money. sims will always have jobs if they cant find it in your city they will just go to another city and it will say they got a job there even though there are no jobs there. ect. im going back to simcity 4, just too bad i was robbed/swindled/taken $85

  6. actually tonight i did some testing and i am discouraged i created a new region i occupied all the cities in the region i built nothing but dirt roads and residentials soon all the cities in my region were humming, population growing and money rolling in every morning i would see messages from sims saying there were community to other cities to go to work! at the end of every day they would return with money to spend there is nothing but dirt roads and residentials in all the cities there are not jobs, no nothing still my cities continue to grow and money keeps pouring in and there is no sense in me playing this game, i've totally wasted $85 the messages u see have no relationship to the facts and what is happening in the cities one minute they say they need more shops the next minute they tell u how wonderfull all the shops are, but you've done nothing. its like some magic eight ball, random jiberish.

    yeap happened to me ignore it you can have a city with nothing but r no other cities in region, no nothing and the place hits population of 10m just give them parks to keep em happy they dont need water, food, medical, fire fighters, police, sewage, trash, jobs, electricity, industries, retail, ect just a little park now and then will do heck forget the parks, even if u try to kill them all u cant more come in all the time, faster then they die, if they die and soon ull be rich top of the leaderboard with cities with nothing but residential and nothing but highways to get high density and it dont matter the next day they'll roll back your cities or delete them or shut the servers down cause they have simcity 6

    for the most part it is compatible with cities xl 2012 mods its basically cities xl 2012 with some patches (so some mods maybe affected) and some new buildings
  13. originally when i created the post origin had cities xl platinum and cities xl 2012 for sale but they removed the cities xl platinum and left the cities xl 2012 since it will cost u $12.5 + 5 = 17.5 steam is $20 and when its 75% off its like $7.5, but for that you have to wait for like stean summer sale and u do want the cities xl platinum it has nice fixes. i personally would get the steam one since they keep it updated for u.

  15. good news everybody i got the cities xl lua profiler up and running and i need a group of volunteers to help me identify performance bottlenecks! if interested please pm me! all you have to do is follow some simple instructions to install the profiler then just play the game as you normally would finally periodically send me the profiler information generated with this information we will be able to get a clearer picture of where exactly are the performance issues with this information modders, such as myself, will be able to hopefully make future improvements to the game.

    ok the first release of the cities xl profiler is now available and just so that everyone knows it uses the Pepperfish Profiler http://lua-users.org/wiki/PepperfishProfiler the release was developed and tested with cities xl platinum, but it should also work with cities xl 2012. this release will focus on just doing a quick 5 minute test. its a good way for you to become familiar with how to install and use the profiler. and its a good way for us to make sure the profiler is running and to collect initial test data that we will analyze and use to fine tune the profiler for the real test. so, if your still interested in helping out just download this file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/87007051/cxl/cxl_profiler/1.0.0.0%2004202013/zzzzzz_cxl_profiler.patch and copy it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities XL Platinum\Paks then just in case something however unlikely goes wrong backup your existing cities xl folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012 now before we start, keep in mind the the profiler while it is running from the time you click on "&Profile Time" or "&Profile Call" to the time when you stop it by pressing "&Profile Stop" consumes memory and if you play with the profiler running for too long your game will eventually crash with an out of memory! now we are ready to start the game and open some small map that we can use to verify that the profiler is working or create a new one once the existing map is open or a new one created click on "Main Menu" button, the one on the top left with the capital 'XL' and then click on the "Menu" button. Once the menu is opened click on "&Profiler" button and that will bring up the profiler menu. Once the profiler menu is opened click on "&Profile Time" and then click on the "Back" button and finally the "Resume" button. well there you have it the profiler is up and running and profiling for function times! now play around the map for around 5 minutes. then click on "Main Menu" button, the one on the top left with the capital 'XL' and then click on the "Menu" button. Once the menu is opened click on "&Profiler" button and that will bring up the profiler menu. Once the profiler menu is opened click on "&Profile Stop" and then wait profiler to write the timing information it captured and when its done you will see the "&Profile Stop" button deselected. now click on "&Profile Call" and then click on the "Back" button and finally the "Resume" button. well there you have it the profiler is up and running again and profiling for function calls! now play around the map for around 5 minutes. then click on "Main Menu" button, the one on the top left with the capital 'XL' and then click on the "Menu" button. Once the profiler menu is opened click on "&Profile Stop" and then wait profiler to write the calling information it captured and when its done you will see the "&Profile Stop" button deselected. when you are done exit the game as you would normally do. then after exiting the game go to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012\log and look for files named cxl_profiler_time_<timestamp>.log cxl_profiler_call_<timestamp>.log if you like you can open them in a text editor and see all the timing and calling information the profiler captured please upload them somewhere and PM me with a link to those files. once u are all done you can delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities XL Platinum\Paks\zzzzzz_cxl_profiler.patch and the folder C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012 which you created for testing and restore your original C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012 folder if you did not back your C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2012 folder, then dont delete the folder you will lose all your configuration and maps finally, thank you for taking the time to help test and improve the profiler. in time we hope to use it for a more comprehensive test to learn where exactly cities xl is bogging down in hopes of someday down the road making it better!

  18. what scares me off is that ea banned people for just changing bf3 to have nice real colors. so u pay over $100 and wake up and your account is not accessible and you cant run any of your games or you cant run the game they've locked you out and they wont undo it. so the only thing u can do is create a new account and buy the games again steam at least just vac bans you for a specific game and from ranked only so you can play ranked the only time steam locks your account is when you do a charge back and then its until you resolve it with them. plus games like cities xl let modders do whatever they want. ive not seen anyone abuse it. hundreds of very nice mods at xlnation.net these people look like not the kind of people u want to mess with and end up banned. well until maxis offically supports mods and then see what they support in the mean time it looks like we will have full offline mode with local saves, ect its not technical problem or very hard to do, the problem is will you get banned for playing offline and doing your own saves. plus it should be easy to fix most things, but again, will you get banned for it.

  20. final nails on the coffin fo online lies http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/03/16/simcity-modder-tells-us-offline-regional-play-easily-done/ it should be very easy for anyone to do full offline mode with multiregion support and saves! the online is not salvageable! there is no there there. its all fake and extremely badly done! servers not doing any calculations, our computers are, they just passing data around and handling saves and doing things like leaderboard and checking for cheats which are disabled right now. there is no real reason for them to be clogged as they are except for extremely bad design and implementation! so bad design, bad implementation, bad use of sql db and saves from too many clients is what bogging them down here think about it so the client says im city y sending city n 2 fire trucks, up to 20 minutes later when it syncs with the server that information is written to some sql db database ok along with a snapshot of your city lets call it, then the other client city n when it syncs with the server gets that information. by now up to 40 minutes have passed, up to 20 for u and up to 20 for them. the stuff is not passed realtime. the server is bogged down doing the saves, the database recording of all the stuff being passed around and the replies which is what everyone else is passing your city. from what has been posted because of delays hours could pass before a request / response reaches the destination because they are being saturated due to saves, most likely they are not compressing all the json they are passing around. anyways city n is finally told when it syncs up next that city y sent u 2 fire trucks. that is why things not working, cause of the delay, cause all the stuff being sent to server needlessly. in most games none of this stuff put to database. the information is sent to the server using udp, not tcp like they are doing and the server passes along to all the live clients real time just doing inmemory no file system database. you drop connection it aint sent to u when u later join. so those fire trucks when it arrives there is no longer a fire, but its not just firetruck it also explains why other stuff passed around is not getting in time, sure it may get there, but perhaps hours later, by then the other parties are most like long gone. anyways most of this stuff presently disabled anyways. so its a mess, that they cant fix, well unless they redesign and rewrite the client / server, ect. i guess they are good at art, sound, models, 3d, telling lies, ect but not at client server and creating game client/server for multiplayer. anyways i encourage people to read, people within maxis are leaking bigtime and the source is partially out, so we cant see the implementation of lots of stuff but we can see the javascript that coordinates its!

SimCity imposes limit on the number of regions/cities you can have! at present you can only be playing in 10 regions per server and i'm trying to find out the exact number of cities you can have, but at most its maximum number of cities in the biggest region (16 cities) multiplied by 10 which would make it 160 cities per server! pretty large number, but for the fact that unless you make it a private region and invite no others to it its very hard to control all the cities in a region, well unless you are able to very quickly take over all the cities and thus limit the number of other players in the region you created or joined. while on the surface this does not appear all that bad, but for fact that you can't locally save and restore your cities! ttp://www.reddit.com/r/SimCity/comments/1ah24g/didnt_know_this_was_possible/ https://i.imgur.com/7rBjpJC.jpg
  23. yes, but they are removing abandoned cities and eventually they will allow others to reclaim them, i guess so long as the region is active. so you will have to ensure you play your old cities, cause soon they will be gone and most likely your old and unplayed regions as well. i guess the point is you can't locally backup and then later restore or at least specify which are your favorite and wont be abandoned. they sort of have their own hardwired logic. so while the number are are very big, you may never get there because your cities at some point will be considered abandoned and eventually deleted and you will lose access to them.
