Protip: make backups on an external hard drive. Saved me from losing my SimCity 4 content at least once.

Same, it's always handy to have that extra external HD or USB handy. But I've lost content and the entire game before and it really must suck - yet what you usually do after is even better than before, so there's always a silver lining
