After my first - and failed - attempt of creating a cool cj, I decided to build a new one. So, 3... 2... 1... Welcome to the Federal Republic of Aaland Islands. Hitler’s Germany has conquered pretty large areas in Northern Europe during the Second World War. Though the country’s lost the war, some of its territories remained parts of the state, until the birth of the GDR, the former East Germany. The Soviet Union required some of the newly invaded territories of the enlarged Germany, at the same time when the division of Germany took place. Most of those regions that Germany invaded during the war have reunited with the state they formerly were a part of. The only exception was the current area of Aaland, a group of islands mainly populated by Finns, and - due to the post-WWII history – Germans. Although nowadays Aaland is one of Europe’s most dynamically developing countries, the state has still too much heritage left from the years of socialism. >> The birth and the first three decades of the Nord-Deutsche Demokratische Republik As a result of the new bipolar political system, Aaland has become a part of the East. Since during the war thousands of Germans have fled to these peaceful islands, it seemed to be a logical step for the Soviet Union to unite the islands with the GDR. Negotiations have been started with the West, and as a result of these talks – obviously following the Western countries’ military and political interest – the NGDR haven’t become a part of the GDR. In the 1950s important ties have developed between the two socialist “Germanys”, in terms of economical, political and military questions. The NGDR became the Eastern Block’s second “display window”; in practice it meant, that serious effort has been put into making the country a socialist “paradise”. Just as anywhere in Eastern Europe, at the beginning of the 1970s economic growth slowed down in the NGDR too, and after the first oil-shock, the standard of living could only be kept at the former grade by taking up trust from the West. The NGDR has become so heavily indebted until the mid-eighties that the country’s economy collapsed. >Halfway between socialism and capitalism After the economic crisis of 1985 the socialist economic system wasn’t operable anymore, serious changes had to take place. In 1986 the first laws have taken effect about privately owned firms. In practice it meant, that anyone could set up an own firm, unless it employed more then 20 employees. Until 1987 socialism, as an economic-system, has vanished in the country, but the political-system has remained unchanged. Although careful steps have been made, to follow Mikhail Gorbachev’s “glasnost” program and to try to modernize socialism to make it more attractive as a political system, only little development has been achieved until the fall of communism in Eastern Europe at the turn of 1980s and 1990s.> >>Integration into the “New Europe” In October 1989, the country’s official name was changed to Federal Republic of Aaland Islands, and the new flag and coat of arms was introduced. In 1990, the country joined the European Union as an affiliate member (due to the country’s strong relations with the former GDR, and the new united Germany). Some of the states economic problems are still unsolved, but the crisis, which began in 1985, was over by 1994. In 2000 the country officially joined the European Union, and this act led to fantastic economic growth, which resulted a great jump in the standard of living. Facts: Territory:

Replies: homeandaway: Well, exactly the thing I was thinking about (Actually the problem could be, that 'applause' translated into Hungarian also expresses a less 'dynamic' way of expressing your positive thoughts about the ceratin stuff ) Oh! I've nearly forgot, that i was about to take a trip to Seoul natuurzoon: Thank you. jacqulina: Thank you too. jayo: thx cnsimcity: Ja, es ist Ich hab daran gedacht, dass ich ein Update über das vierzichte Geburtstag der 'Nord-Deutsche Demokratische Repulbik" machen soll I've already thought about making an update about the 40th birthday of the NGDR.

Krio, thank you. Alex, actually I don't know what results the "Serbian touch"of Aaland, anyway, I definately take it as an applause. :-) And of course, thank you. As for all the grammatical mistakes, i was in a hurry when psing the pics, so i appologise, next time i'll try to correct all the mistakes before posting the update rather than after.

Thank you Alex.

Well, hi everyone! I could return a bit earlier to my cj than i thought, therefore i decided to upload an update of Mariehamn. Nothing special, neither exciting, just ordinary stuff. Here we go... So, that's all for today.
-
Thx. As for the next update, i believe that i'll have to make a lil' break, but don't forget to check for updates, maybe once you will find a new one for surprise.

Replies: exgamer07: Yeah i love their, well, 'orangeness' natuurzoon: Thank you. So far it's my favourite part of the whole cj. But, maybe it's gonna change sometime soon petriknl: Certainly, Goodbye Lenin is one of the greatest films (at least to me ). And i also like the music of Yann Tiersen. It's so unique. Anyway, thank you. bat: Thank you. bokrif: Kösz, igyekeztem kitenni magamért Hát, se id?, se kedv. Making the film took me hours (incl. suffering with FS, fraps, moviemaker and stuff), and i'm not really satisfied with the result. It could have been better.

Replies: Schulmanator: Thank you. More about the airport is about to come. As Mariehamn is a mainly industrial city i plan an update focusing only on industrial areas and the port. I don't set any deadlines, everything depends on how my rl goes. Anyway, i'm also glad to be back. Cjah: Yeah, details. I enjoy creating detailed stuff. That's the essence of SC4 to me. xgriffinx : thx. Cjah & xgriffinx : It seems to me that you're new to my cj. Thank you for the comments, i hope you'll follow it.

As for the grid, i usually turn it off, sometimes i simply forget about it... thundercrack83: You're welcome. big_al: Well, thx, i hope you'll follow even i had this 'small' break. natuurzoon: Yep, official papers posted already bokrif: Hehe. Szívesen. You're welcome. exgamer07: Thank you, i love them, they're extremely useful, and a pleasure to see

Apologies for the lack of updates lately, but my life is a mess right now. If everything goes as planned, tomorrow the new update for the Nordinseln area is gonna be online.

Wonderful cj you build, i like it a lot

WELCOME TO PAGE 3. Replies #2: natuurzoon: Thank you for being that active in my cj. If you remain that active, i'll have to give you (along with bokrif, jacqulina, Schulmanator) a honorary citizenship (Sorry if I left anybody out, who follows my cj, just tell me if i did so, an i'll correct the post. And of course, anybody can get a citizenship of Aaland like that, who leaves his/her fingerprints in my cj ) SIMMANIA: Thank you. I'm just reading trough your cj UltraGIR XL: Thx. Now i'll definately have to make a trip to "Verona" emilin: Well, i'm using the Columbus terrain mod, with Teirusu's beach modd (white sand beach) and the peg rock mod (green igneous). Well i suppose one of the latter two is in charge for the looks of my beaches. Hope i've helped.

Lehet hogy a projekt ezt a részét feladom. Egyébként kösz. Well, i'm eager too . Otherwise i'm preparing for a special update, but i have too many problems with technical issues, so maybe i'll axe this part of my update project. Anyway, thx for the comment. jacqulina: Thank you natuurzoon: Maybe i've already mentioned it, but i'm in love with prefab buildings, especially with ones built in socialist countries bartonn: Alternative history... well maybe i'd have liked a world like that better... (but don't be scared, i know that these thoughts are only my weird ones ) Everybody: thank you for the comments.

Well, this time without the seawalls... Nordinseln State is situated North from Stolzbai, in Northeastern Aaland. Nordinseln is still close to Nature in some way, there are still untouched islands in the area. The state is unremarkable in terms of commerce and industry (not counting the Staatliches Medizinwerk, wich is the biggest still state owned company of Aaland.) As for the next update, i've no idea when i'll have time to make that. RL is getting harder and harder.
