Out of money - Some help please :)
Zpike replied to Ollie.Stevens's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Easy fix. Whenever a residential fails rezone it to commercial. Whenever a commercial fails rezone it to residential. This will mix residential with commercial throughout your city and allow your city to balance. Your traffic will go down and your money will go up. You will need to watch later in your development to make sure the buildings you rezone are large enough to expand, but that is an issue for another thread. -
Sims (Agents) will always act as they do now.
Zpike replied to Titan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
If you are having traffic issues it's not the games fault as I, and others, can build cities with no traffic issues at all. It's easy to do if you know what you are doing. -
Managing traffic is so frustrating
Zpike replied to Herb0815's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yep, it's a city simulation. People do all kinds of crazy things in real life too. You must watch what they actually do and then change your design to fix any issues. Same in real life. -
Check to make sure your connection to the highway is still connected. If not you wont get any moving vans.

OK I give up. How do I fix "out of money"?
Zpike replied to Grimhood's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Don't zone commercial and residential in blocks, zone them as individual buildings instead. Any residential that fail should be rezoned as commercial and any commercial that fail should be rezoned as residential. What this will do is mix your residential and commercial throughout your city. You will have less traffic because your people will walk to work and shop and you will end up with a balanced city where you have no commuters too. This will also cut back on traffic. -
When you start your city find the down wind corner and place your power plant there with one sewage outflow. Leave enough room around it for an additional power plant if you plan on a large city, and also leave room for a sewage treatment plant and a water pumping facility. You should make sure to leave room for the expansion nodes for both of those buildings. That's it. By the time you need more services than the single sewage outflow handles you will have enough money for the treatment plant and the water pump. The sewage treatment plant will refill the water table in the area and the water pumping facility will have unlimited water. Easy squeezy.

Police and fire are easy to control unless you have traffic issues. Traffic issues are caused either by city balance or poor road design. City balance: Make sure you have no unemployed workers going to other cities for work. On the flip side, make sure you have a minimum of open jobs being filled by other cities workers. If you have to many workers, rezone failing residential buildings to commercial. If you have to many jobs, rezone failing commercial to residential. Always make sure to wait a bit between rezoning events to watch how your city balances. Slow easy steps until you have balance. Poor road design: Well, there are a ton of threads on road design. You can also go out to YouTube and find multiple videos on road design. Ooops.. Forgot about the tie between education and crime. VVVVV (See the post below) VVVVVV

How to keep my Lower Class in my city..?
Zpike replied to Aesiron's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yes, the low class parks are the first set of parks in the menu. They will not upgrade low class areas, they just allow for expansion. -
The key to gambling and tourism: Hotels?
Zpike replied to kgpurrs's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I've also been trying to get them to spawn. I want them next to my casinos but they spawn out in the city or not at all. -
No worries, Note that one reason buildings complain with a shop next door is because of differing levels of wealth. medium wealth pop need medium wealth retail shops. You can check your land value map to see where your different levels of citizens are. It usually takes two parks with overlapping areas of influence to force a building to upgrade in wealth. If you place your parks judiciously you can control where your low, medium, and high wealth population live. That allows you to control how many jobs they have by placing retail mixed in with certain wealth levels. If you see you have to many low wealth and not enough medium wealth then you add a park near your low wealth and wait to see how they upgrade. Remember it takes a while for the density of an area to upgrade so you need to take your time, make small changes, and watch the results. Note also that you can pick your high wealth area when placing your starting buildings. If you make a ring of influence with your Town Hall, Police , Fire, and Clinic when you start your game you will have instant medium wealth land value within their influence circle.

How do I keep my power plants from running out of coal/oil?
Zpike replied to MOWS 4 U's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Getting bent and crying because the global delivery does not arrive on time when you have an easy solution with a trade depot is just..... Well, you figure it out. 1) Create a trade depot. 2) Put a bin of coal or oil in it. 3) Turn it on import. 4) Make a medium density road go directly from your power plant to the city exit passing by the trade depot with no other connections. 5) QQ some more. -
Regional Crime is suddenly KILLING a nice profitable city!
Zpike replied to LGMizzell's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Make me want to create a region of criminals just to have some fun. -
1) You should first eliminate any unemployed population by rezoning as unemployed population are unhappy and they will not allow expansion. Rezone any residential with the "no money" flag to retail. 2) take a look at areas where the buildings are not expanding and find out what they don't like. Fix it. The usual fix is to place retail closer. I just rezone any residential with the "no shops" warning to retail. 3) Place the appropriate wealth park near any area where the buildings are not expanding. 4) Rezone any retail buildings that are failing to residential. What this will do is mix retail with your residential and your traffic will go down. The parks will also improve the living conditions of the population causing them to expand.

City Specialization is Broken - Rant
Zpike replied to cubercaleb's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
That's not broken, that's just a balance issue and will be adjusted if they feel it needs to be. This is common with multiplayer games. The economy is static right now while they fix more critical issues. Once they turn on the dynamic economy we will see how things balance out and changes will be made. -
SimCity 5 (2013) Offline Crack
Zpike replied to dreamxs's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ten minutes from now the real game will update and fix it so the crack will not work. You will have to either keep getting a new crack each time they update the game or the crack will need to prevent game updates. If the latter you will never get game updates. Seems like a really stupid way to go but whatever gets you your jollies I guess. -
The Expo Center will bring in lots of tourists to that area during events along with a general boost in tourists if you place the sign. The idea behind placing the Expo Center across from the casino is so the people that go to the expo center will leave and walk across the street to your casino and spend their money. It's not mandatory, however I have found that my casino across from the Expo Center is one of my most profitable casinos. Sounds like a logical design to me.
-
For profitable casinos you need to keep the retail spaces away from them so the tourists spend their money in the casino and not the stores. Put a train station directly across the street and maybe even a bus terminal next door. Put the expo within walking distance. Put the low and medium room expansion on the low end casino for the customers to stay in.
-
The ferries will bring in low and medium wealth tourists. The cruise ship brings in high wealth tourists. There is no need to use the cruise ship unless you either want high end tourists or have the high end casino. The best method to bring in low and medium wealth tourists is to use a combination of the train, regional bus, and ferry. Place the train stations and/or bus terminal near your retail shops, attractions, and/or casinos for best effect.

Yep, I have found this to be the best method. I only create one water tower and one sewage outflow when I start a new city. Then once I get going and I start to need more sewage I drop the sewage treatment plant out in a location where I want my utilities. Does not matter if there is water there or not. Once the sewage treatment plant goes for a bit the water table will start to fill up. Then you can drop your water pump and you are good to go. Just make sure you give the plants enough room to grow. Delete your sewage outflow when you drop your treatment plant and delete your water tower when you drop the water pump to save cash and cut down on ground water pollution in the area of the outflow. Plant trees to remove any lingering pollution. If you have to put them in a polluted area you can use the water treatment pump instead of the regular water pump for the same effect except it costs way more.

Any way of turning off disasters?
Zpike replied to TPMP's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
In game disasters can be triggered by your city. If you are getting an abundance of disasters then your city most likely is triggering them. I spotted a link where they listed the triggers once but I can't seem to find it now. -
"Criminals per day" found cause, what is the solution?
Zpike replied to Srafty's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Education and cops stop criminals. Get your education to at least one bubble or the criminals will start spawning. If you keep stopping crimes. (crimes committed is zero) Then your criminals will start dropping to zero over time. You have to arrest each criminal X number of times before they go back to being a regular citizen. Where X is the level of the criminal. They will drop one level after each arrest. Criminals have 7 levels so if you have a lot of crime it will take a while to get rid of it. If you have as much crime as the above poster it is almost impossible to get rid of it. Motto: Stay ahead of crime or your city is toast. -
Regional play Great Works still broken?
Zpike replied to PapasGigantes's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You have to have the "use locally" flag checked on the supply depot for the resource to be used by your GW. Then any resources put in that depot will go to your GW after they have supplied any local power plants etc... Note also that the supply depot sends out trucks. If your traffic is bonkers then your trucks will not get through to your GW. I would look at population balance to see why you have so many workers going out to the GW. It may mean that you don't have enough local jobs and all your unemployed are running out to work. If so you can create more local jobs to suck up the extra workers or you can de-zone residential. -

Zpike replied to cubercaleb's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
You can also use two supply depots setting one to "export" and the other to "use locally". Just give the export depot only one bin for the resource you want to export. As long as you have an abundance of resources being produced you should have enough to export some and still have some to use locally. -

Currently making the Space GW. No traffic issues and the resources are moving along nicely. -
City Specialization is Broken - Rant
Zpike replied to cubercaleb's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Turn off your "import from global market" flag on your oil power plant and they will only use local oil. Make sure you have a good road system to and from the trade depot, the city entrance, and your power plant. (no traffic) This will allow your trucks to get to and from your trade depot with the oil for your power plant. "it's not my fault, its the buggy state of the game." - No, it is your fault. I have many cities all with no issues buying, selling and using resources because they are all built with functional road and trading systems. If your system is not working it's not because of a bug.
