  1. What are prop packs?

Tell it to the creators, Nonny....not me. As I said above, I installed that particular prop pack because it was listed as as dependency for another custom lot I downloaded. If I didn't install it, and ended up with brown boxes, you guys would be asking me if I installed all the dependencies, right? This is the content creator's fault for not providing proper instructions with the file. Please stop talking down to me.
  2. Just to clarify this part of A Nonny Moose's post.... Right-clicking in the cheat box to bring up a list of cheat codes will only work if you have the installed. Without it, you have to type in the code. The "Moolah" cheat A Nonny Moose referred to is only available if you have that plugin installed.
  3. What are prop packs?

I think I just figured out the problem. The following two files were in my Plugins: graffitti_tester_da5f6605.SC4Lot industrial-wall_tester_3a601b84.SC4Lot After I removed them, the lots no longer show up in my Parks menu. Obviously I placed them inside my Plugins folder when I first installed the props pack - but, as I said above, there's nothing in the documentation that says not to place them in the Plugins folder.
  4. Hmmm. Welcome to Simtropolis...? I can appreciate your opening rant here...I don't blame you. I imagine what was really going through your head was and So I applaud you for keeping it PG-rated. I'll try to answer some of your questions. 1.) I don't know, unfortunately. I'm not familiar with either one of those CPUs, but I'm sure someone else will be able to tackle that question for you. Even if you wanted to play the game on your current multi-core system, there's a parameter that can be added to the Target Command Line in the game's desktop icon properties which would restrict the game to only one core. 2.) Definitely go with 2GB...preferably more if you can, but 2GB should suffice. 3.) You can download the fully patched game from Gamersgate, Steam, or Amazon. No need for an optical drive. 4.) Yes, there are switches you can buy which allow you to toggle your monitor's input from one source to another. 5.) No...there are no patches necessary. You would just need to add a parameter to your Target Command Line in the game's desktop icon properties. We can tell you how to do that. 6.) Yes, the game runs on XP-SP3, although I've read that people have better luck running it in SP2 compatibility mode. You'd have to try it to see if there are any issues, but I'm sure it would be fine with SP3 as well. 7.) Yes, but too lengthy and detailed for this particular post right now. Please feel free to start an entirely new thread devoted to that one specific topic. 8.) Lots of stuff. But in the same manner as my answer to #7, it's too much to go into in just one post.
  5. question about money cheats/mods

I don't know how they actually work, but the description for each mod specifically states it doubles the number of jobs. As I interpret it, that means if an I-M factory normally offers 20 jobs, then the industry doubler mod will allow the same factory to offer 40 jobs. In doing so, that means you do not have to add extra I-D or I-M zones in order to create more jobs. For instance, if you have an 8x8 industrial zone which produces 400 jobs, then this mod will allow 800 jobs to be produced in that same 8x8 zone. Now, given I'm not always the brightest bulb in the string of Christmas lights, it's possible I could be wrong, too. I tried using the Industry Doubler Mod, and it did in fact add a lot more jobs in my industrial zones without the need to enlarge my zones. However, my observation was that it had the most impact on my I-M jobs, which seemed to increase by a factor of about 75-100%, whereas I only gained about 50% more I-HT jobs. So I'm sure a lot of it has to do with the type of Sims in my city. As I said, I'm not sure if those are the mods you were seeking anyway. Maybe this is the one you were looking for...
  6. Marriage & Parentship

I'm not sure I can add much more to the discussion over and above what the other posters have already stated. I don't think the desire to have children should be a prerequisite for marriage. But I do think if you have children, it's better to be married. Marriage is a fundamental stabilizing force that affords children the security they need as they are growing up. Or at least it should be. I know there are too many tragic examples where children are affected by family discord, or are even themselves the victims of abuse in a home. I myself am a child of divorced parents. Even though they waited until I was 20 before they got divorced, it still affected me because, in my mind, my family was no longer a cohesive stable unit. It was broken. In many ways, even to this day, my family is STILL broken....but perhaps for different reasons, which I won't go into here. I suppose when it comes to your particular example, my only question would be to echo a point brought up by another poster....if your parents are committed to one another, then why have they not made a formal and legal commitment? What's stopping them? Do they merely shun the label? Maybe some people shun marriage for the sake of keeping their options open in a way that makes things easier on them if they should ever choose to split up, but then what kind of commitment is it if they hold that position?
  7. Current goings on in Cyprus

What else are we in the dark about, that maybe I'm personally unaware of? Probably more than I should be. Watching and reading the news these days is so depressing.
  8. Trees in God Mode

What if I use one controller for City A, but then swap it out for a different one in City B within the same region? I suppose I'd just have to put the correct one back in my plugins if I want to go back into City A to work on it some more...right?
  9. Building orientation

Cool. Glad things have been ironed out for you.
  10. Negative effects of prop packs.

Good question. I've wondered that myself, so I'll be waiting to hear the answer, too.
  11. Building orientation

Well, it's in the General Discussion forum, but I never know when I've assumed too much.
  12. prop people, fishing boats, etc

I know what you mean. I've spend many hours hunting around for stuff to download before I got started actually building anything nice. Even now I still find myself wanting to download more stuff. Looking through the STEX can be a chore. ha ha. Let me give you another humble piece of advice. Actually, it's more like a helpful tip. Sometimes when you're looking for something in particular, it's not always going to be found using the most obvious terms. For instance, if you want a fishing boat, it also helps to use search terms such as "marina". Or if you want to find a movie theater, you might have to search for a "cinema". Or even if you're looking for a flower garden, you might find it by typing "roses" or "flora" or "park". There have been times when I've been looking for skyscrapers, and I had better luck using the term "office" or "tower". And remember, Google is very helpful, too...especially if you need a certain dependency. Anyway, that's all. Have a good afternoon. (Or whatever time of day it is where you live.)
  13. prop people, fishing boats, etc

sorry about that, i didn't mean to clog the threads or anything like that...i will use the other threads from now on when i'm looking for something. i appreciate the heads up ihrob It's okay, buddy, you're not "clogging the threads". I'm not slapping you or anything like that. I just think you'll find it to be of greater benefit to you. There are members who post in those forums, and they're good at finding things...but they don't always see these threads here in General Discussion. BTW...if I come across anything like you're asking about, I'll be sure to let you know.
  14. prop people, fishing boats, etc

LarryParadise, I just want to give you a bit of humble advice. When you want to ask people about certain items for the game, your best bet is to post a message in this forum....and most especially, if you're having trouble finding something in particular, feel free to It keeps things nice and tidy here at Simtropolis, and it also benefits you because there are many people in those particular forums who are very good at finding things and can give you great recommendations.
  15. Current goings on in Cyprus

Here's a list of articles posted by the U.S.'s supposedly "poor excuse for a media". Each link contains multiple stories about the situation. http://www.google.com/news?ncl=dn7Bed7JvJ2dUTMQt_XhRF-YjrmnM&q=cyprus&lr=English&hl=en ....multiple pages of articles, all about Cyprus, mostly from U.S. news sources. These are multiples stories about Cyprus, all from U.S. news sources. http://www.foxnews.com/search-results/search?q=Cyprus&submit=Search http://www.cnn.com/search/?query=Cyprus&primaryType=mixed&sortBy=relevance&intl=false&x=0&y=0 http://www.cbsnews.com/1770-5_162-0.html?query=Cyprus&tag=srch&searchtype=cbsSearch http://abcnews.go.com/search?searchtext=Cyprus http://www.nbcnews.com/?id=11881780&q=Cyprus&search=&p=1&st=1&sm=user So as you see, we haven't exactly been in the dark about this.
  16. Building orientation

Oh, are we talking about the Lot Editor? I didn't realize that. Sorry.
  17. Building orientation

You use the Home or End keys to rotate everything that can be plopped in the game. That includes the hole digger lots. There's no reason for the Home or End keys to not rotate a lot. Are you using a laptop? If so, you sometimes have to press an additional key (such as the Function key) at the same time in order to activate the Home or End keys. Look for an fn key and press it at the same time you're pressing Home or End.
  18. Trees in God Mode

yep, thanks ihrob...i downloaded the pacific northwest one and will see how well it works tonight. i'm a memeber of most of the SC4 sites, so downloading typically isn't an issue. Cool! The PNW is a really good one. It wasn't too long ago when I was dealing with this same choice myself. I was really torn between the PNW and Olympic, but opted to use the PNW for now. I may switch it out when I start a new city. Good luck! thanks ihrob, i just hope i can get through a city without obliterating it because i think it looks wrong. i had a city of 80K going last weekend but started over because i wasn't getting tall C$$$ buildings showing up and thought my layout was wrong. but at least the trees will look nice Well, you generally won't get tall commercial buildings with only 80K in population. I don't think they usually show up until you've hit 100K or more, and even then it depends on whether the right conditions exist in your city. I've had a city up to 150K and still didn't get any skyscrapers. Be sure to post some updated screenshots of your work. We could maybe help guide you about what to do to make things go better in your city.
  19. question about money cheats/mods

Yes, technically if you get too much money the city will start recording your budget as a negative number and then the game won't let you do anything in the city after that. It essentially tells you that you've been fired as a mayor, since you've completely run the city into the red. I'm not sure how much money is too much, but I do NOT advise adding too much money to your budget. But certainly adding several million won't hurt. I currently run my city with a budget of around $25,000,000 and have no problems. Still, I keep a keen eye on it and use the Moolah function to adjust it accordingly. If I need to bring it down, I do that. Just today I learned about something called the and which doubles the number of jobs your industrial and commercial services zones provide. I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about...?? Depends on what you mean by them harrassing you. What exactly are they saying? It could simply mean you need to add more schools, a large hospital, and additional police/fire stations.
  20. Building orientation

Also, the lot's arrow has to be facing and touching a street, road, or avenue.

  22. How do I share....

"Print Screen" is the term used on your computer keyboard which refers to capturing the image currently showing on your monitor. Depending on your keyboard layout, the key is normally found right above your Insert/Home/Page Up keys which are located above the arrow keys to the right of your Enter and Shift keys. The key itself should say "Print Screen" on it, but it could possibly be abbreviated to read "Prnt Scrn", or something like that. When you press it, it will save a copy of the image on your monitor to your clipboard. Then you simply open the Windows Paint program and paste the clipboard contents there. From there, you can edit the image and/or crop the image, then save it as a JPEG. When you want to share the JPEG online, you need to upload it directly from your hard drive. After you upload it, you will be given a direct link to the image. That link is what you need before you can post any images here in the Simtropolis forums. EDIT: For instance, this is an image I saved of the above post I just wrote. I used Print Screen to take a snapshot of what was on my computer monitor. I then opened the Paint program, pasted the image, cropped it, and saved it using the .jpg file extension. Then I uploaded it to my Imageshack account, grabbed the direct link, and posted it here.
  23. question about money cheats/mods

I agree with 111222333444 (I think I'm going to call you "30" for short, since that's what they add up to )...the Extra Cheats DLL is probably your best bet. After you install it (pay attention to what the instructions say...very important), just open the cheat bar, right click in the bar, select "Moolah", then leave one space and type in a number without using a comma. Then hit Enter. The number you type is how much money you get. So for instance if you want 25,000,000 simoleans, your entry should look like this: Moolah 25000000
  24. Trees in God Mode

There are a number of different tree controllers you can use. Remember, though, you can only have one in your Plugins folder. Picking the one you like is a matter of personal preference. Here are some links to others. Bear in mind you will need to be a logged-in member of SC4Devotion to download these: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1638 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1528 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1636 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1640 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=60 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=59
  25. How do I share....

It's really pretty simple. You need to have your photos available online somewhere, and then you simply post a link to them. You do that by clicking on the little picture icon in the toolbar when replying to a topic. See this screenshot: If you don't have anyplace online where your photos are stored, you can use a free photo uploading service such as Imageshack or Photobucket. There are others, too. Just do a simple Google search for "free photo upload sites".
