  1. help me plant some trees

Are you using MMPs (Mayor Mode Ploppables), or the God-mode trees?
  2. Plopmatic 9000

No, I haven't tried a new region yet. I'll have to consider that. But if it has affected the core DAT files, am I totally....how do I say this in PG terms....up a creek? Would the adverse effects carry over from my backed up Regions folder in case I want to reinstall the game later, or are the core DAT files a separate part of the game?
  3. help me plant some trees

Well, suffice it to say I'm impressed with what you've done. It all looks so natural. I really wish my city looked that nice. Do you mind if I ask how large your lots are when you lay out your zones? Yes, please post a link to that highway light when you get a chance.
  4. Not sure where to post this question, so I'll just do it here and let the mods move it if they deem it necessary. When you install mods such as the NAM, terrain mods, or demand mods, etc....do they actually change something in the game's code? Or are they simply files which override certain things in the game? If you uninstall the game (for whatever reason you may feel inclined to do that), but first make a backup copy of the entire Plugins folder, do you have to run the installers again for the NAM and other mods when you reinstall the game...or can you just replace the Plugins folder with the backup copy?
  5. Cool. Thanks so much for all your help.
  6. Specifically, the installer is making increasing use of the Registry, in order to make updating and reconfiguring easier. So if you uninstall the NAM, you should always do so by running its uninstaller (which can also be found in the Control Panel), and it should be reinstalled by using the NAM installer. I see the NAM uninstaller. I presume running it will remove all the pertinent files in my current configuration, but wouldn't that mean I'd have to remove all the NAM related files in the backup copy of my Plugins folder before transferring it after reinstalling the game? And if so, how do I locate them all?
  7. Simtropolis Religion Thread

General question to Christians - or anyone else, really, if you wish to answer: Upon what foundation do you base your beliefs about Jesus and the faith - your own authority, or the authority of the church and Scriptures? How did you come to believe what you believe?
  8. Creationism vs. Evolution

I don't know for the life of me why I'm bothering to continue posting in this thread, considering I've asked some questions of certain members and they still refuse to respond. How did god create it though? As the literal interpretation in Genesis which I find HIGHLY doubtful, and I grew up as a southern baptist, very conservative. Or was it more ( as I believe) a god or higher power set the universe and subsequent life into motion then stood back and watched the progress? To put it in SC terms, I believe a god set up the zones and roads etc then hit run and watch what happened as opposed to being an active participant and plop everything down just so... Perhaps. I'm not saying I believe in a literal 6-day creation, but I'm also not so bold and arrogant as to dismiss it as possible. If you dismiss it as a possbility, you limit God. But Genesis could be poetic/symbolic language. A day may not have been 24 hours in length back then. It could have been much longer...perhaps millions upon millions of years or more. The Bible simply refers to a day as the period of time when light shined upon the earth. Genesis 1:5 - God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” So you're wanting me to answer questions that scientists can't answer...? Somehow I doubt you'll be satisfied with my answers, but I'll try to take a stab at them, although I'm not claiming outright to have the answers: 1. A - Nothing/no one created God. That's why he's God. That's what God is. Humans can't fully comprehend him. B - Why is it ridiculous to say God has always existed? The very fact of the matter is you can't say he hasn't. And since he has revealed to us that he is from everlasting to everlasting, I'm more convinced by his eternal and infinite existence (past, present, future) than I am by some far-fetched notion that he had a beginning. Why can't people comprehend there are things we mere humans may simply NOT be able to understand??? Is it pride? Arrogance? What keeps people from believing? 2. I don't know. I don't presume to know. I'm not worried about it. I'm not trying to explain it. Besides, how is that relevant to him creating the universe? If you want to know what he did before he created everything, ask him. If he doesn't answer you now, perhaps he will in the afterlife. The point is, what difference does it make? 3. The very fact that there is order in the universe. How do you explain the logarithmic/equiangular spiral as it occurs in nature? Am I to presume that a huge random explosion created the precise mathematical equations which govern their existence? Or how about this: If you took the relevant raw elements necessary to build the parts for a watch, and then threw them out into space, am I really supposed to believe they not only formed themselves into plastic, steel, gold, quartz, glass, etc...but then also proceeded to form themselves into gears and springs, and not only that, but likewise continued on to a point where they all came together in such a precise manner that they formed an accurate, functioning Swiss quartz watch? All on their own, without a blueprint or instructions, and without a watchmaker??? Give me a break! The evidence is there. You just refuse to see it! 4. God has intervened....many times. His presence is notable if you live according to the spirit and not the flesh. This is my final comment in this thread. Don't bother quoting me to respond to it, because I won't be back in here to read it.
  9. CTD on Second Save

Well, yeah...that's a good idea. But I just meant if they didn't want to keep it, they could delete it.
  10. help me plant some trees

I see that in the top right You can get it here: http://hide-inoki.com/bbs/archives/sc4_0725.html LOL! Yeah, yeah, I see that. I'm usually good with directions, so I'm not sure what was going through my head when I wrote that. Anyway, thanks for the link.
  11. help me plant some trees

I honestly wouldn't worry about installing any other tree mods. From what I see, it all looks really good. You have a few stragglers here and there that look out of place, but nothing that would warrant installing a tree controller. Your neighborhoods all look so nice...I'm actually a bit jealous. I wish mine would turn out like that. A few questions, if you don't mind me asking: - Do you plop any of your buildings, or has that all grown on its own? - Do you use the Industrial Revolution Mod? - Where did you get the cell tower I see between the wavy sound barrier walls and the highway? - You have a lot of streets in your residential neighborhood. Do you have any traffic problems? No matter how much I try, all of my residential neighborhoods with streets consistently get flooded with traffic, no matter how the streets are layed out. - In your final screenshot, where did you get that building in the top left right (oops)....the one that looks like a residential tower shaped like half a wagon wheel?
  12. Creationism vs. Evolution

...which they won't be able to do unless they concede it was created. To me, as a Christian, all these scientific theories ultimately don't matter, because the ultimate reality is the creator - God.
  13. help me plant some trees

Maybe it's just me, but I think your mix of trees looks fine in that screenshot. It's what you typically see in a lot of places around the eastern and midwestern U.S. I'm not sure any of us can really tell you what kind of trees to put in that open area, because this is a very personal game. It's different for everyone. Whatever you like is all that matters, so just go through your trees menu and experiment to see what looks best to you. BTW...I really like the way that neighborhood looks. It seems very healthy. I'd enjoy seeing more screenshots of your entire city if you care to post any.
  14. Creationism vs. Evolution

...which no one has posted in for almost 2 years. Thank you for pointing out the link, because I would have had to rummage through 12 pages of threads to find it - and now I would feel stupid for resurrecting what amounts to be a dead thread. It was quite the active thread in its day. and notice it is "Take 2". The original thread was so long it was taking a while to load so we started a new thread. As many people have noticed, this "Creationism vs Evolution" thread has wandered way far afield. Let that discussion continue over in the "Take 2" thread. Just remember: discuss the issues not each other. One tip: avoid using the word "you". Okay. Thank Meg...er, you. Just being funny.
  15. Yeah, that's all fine. Reinstalling the NAM isn't the big issue for me. I have a huge folder of downloads on my desktop where I store everything I've downloaded for the game, and they're all in their original .zip format just like when I downloaded them from the STEX and LEX. But when I download something new, I first unzip it and then toss the zipped original into that folder. However, I've neglected to separate the mods from the plugins and everything else, so they're just all mixed in together. I'd have to wade through that entire folder to hunt down the mods, and...well, I'm too lazy to do that. I should be ashamed to say that, but it's the truth. But if I have to redo the NAM, that's fine. I can locate that one easily enough. Thanks for the responses. I appreciate it.
  16. Yes, I'm confident that someone knows....*coughANonnyMoosecough*
  17. Question about rock mods

I'm going to bump this thread because I'd like to know the answer to your questions, too.
  18. Simtropolis Religion Thread

Well, you revived it...so what do you want to talk about?
  19. SC4 Platform Survey

Yes, or else they didn't read the questions carefully enough. Since my comment about Vista, we suddenly got three Vista users, though. Actually, the way the polls work here, that's not possible. The system won't allow you to vote without answering all questions. That's why I had to put in the third option in the second and fourth questions. Ah. I didn't know that. Then something definitely is strange about it. As of now it's showing a total of 23 people who have less than 4 GB of RAM, and 25 of those 23 people do use the NAM. LOL! Not sure what to say about that. It's some fuzzy computing, huh?
  20. Creationism vs. Evolution

...which no one has posted in for almost 2 years. Thank you for pointing out the link, because I would have had to rummage through 12 pages of threads to find it - and now I would feel stupid for resurrecting what amounts to be a dead thread. Besides, with general religion threads like that, the subject can easily meander off-course into a lot of different directions. I'd prefer keeping it on one particular topic at a time. It's really no big deal. I probably should shut up anyway, but I have a really bad habit of responding to miscellaneous comments I come across while reading through the boards.
  21. Where in the world do you live?

Ohio...born here, raised here, still here, loathe it here, wish I could move away from here.
  22. CTD on Second Save

A Nonny Moose pretty much said it......sounds like an issue specific to the Timbuktu tutorial. If all you really want to do is test how the game runs on Windows 7 with the NAM and other plugins, simply create a sandbox region to play around in. If it all works fine, then all you have to do is delete the sandbox out of your regions folder once you're done.
  23. Creationism vs. Evolution

As I said, I don't believe in forcing someone to convert. I don't agree that everything which was done throughout history in the name of Christianity was right. Should Christians have forced pagans to convert? No. Jesus said to go and make disciples, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything he had commanded. He didn't say "hog tie them, drag them into the waters of baptism and cram the Eucharist down their throat". He didn't say "command them to convert or throw them into a pot of boiling oil". He said (to paraphrase): "If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your message, you should knock the dirt off your sandals as you exit that place." Missionaries should have presented the gospel as persuasively as they could without being violent or "in their face". If it wasn't accepted, they should have left the people to themselves. But what is proselytization, if not the sharing of the gospel in the interest of making converts and bringing people to God...yes, out of paganism? Are you going to argue with Jesus and tell him he never should have commissioned the apostles to do that? Nonny, I don't mind engaging in a discussion about all these religious topics, but there isn't a Religion subforum for doing that, and if I get into a discussion about the Spanish Inquisition, et al...in this thread, it will just drive this topic off-course and we risk getting in trouble with the mods for doing that. At the same time, I feel kinda stupid starting a bunch of new threads to talk about different religious ideas in a Current Events or General Discussion subforum...unless it's okay to do that?? I refuse to do it via private messaging because I've tried that lately with a member here at Simtropolis, and I feel like I got burned in the process because he appears to have abandoned the discussion. But believe it or not, it's not in my interest to argue and debate about all this stuff.
  24. SC4 Platform Survey

Sounds like maybe some people could have been a bit confused by the wording of the poll...? Perhaps they thought "less than 4 GB of RAM" was a reference to how much they had free...? Or maybe some people simply didn't answer each question...?
  25. Creationism vs. Evolution

I'm not sure I understand how proselytization is a mistake. Surely you aren't talking about sharing the gospel with others...? I mean, granted I don't believe in forcing one to convert, but Jesus did commission the apostles to go out into the world and make disciples of every nation.
