Plus the base could do with some jazzing up haha. http://www.azza.co.nz/skyjump-4.jpg http://lloydi.com/travel-writing/round-the-world-trip/country/04-new_zealand/north-island/01-auckland/images/manda-foot.jpg http://www.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=auckland&ie=UTF8&ll=-36.848689,174.762703&spn=0.002155,0.003396&t=k&z=18&om=1 I love using the sky tower in my cities though. It add's an extra "umph" into the city, makes it looks heaps better.quote> Hey Qaxpla. Being my first BAT i didn't realise at that time that SC4 metres are actually around 25-30% bigger than real life metres. I would therefore have to increase the entire model size by that much to make it proportional to buildings already in the game. This is easy to do, and infact i already have an updated, more accurately sized and detailed Skytower almost ready for release but i just haven't had the time to do so yet. Keep an eye out Anyway back onto the subject of this thread.. The BATs are looking excellent, scotty. I'm not sure if the previews you are showing are from the SC4 renderer or from some sort of default 3DS renderer but the buildings are coming out quite dark. The 'crown' on BNZ looks a bit squished too... but you may have already fixed this as i see you have compensated for this on the ANZ disco ball. Otherwise keep going they way you are!

Awesome work, scotty! I'm glad to see you're continuing with the NZ BATs. You're doing us proud man!
  3. Scottys BATS

The second one looks tidier to me, scotty.

I know what that's based on lol. It's looking good. You've got the amount of detailing about right. I like to see this sort of building extend right to the boundaries so that it gives a dense urbanist feel. I'll reserve any more comments 'till it's a bit more complete, but keep it up!

I have a few photos i've taken of PWC if you'd like to use them as references. PM me to let me know if you want them.

Your PWC BAT is very nicely done. I actually started modeling it myself a long time ago but never got around to finishing it. Yours looks better so far anyway I wish i still had the time to do more NZ BATs. I actually have an improved version of the Skytower almost ready for release... I should really get onto that. Anyway i digress. I have a few suggestions for PWC: - I'm not sure if you're wanting to slightly exaggerate the vertical dimention of the building but you have two too many floors for the 'middle section' of the building. This is just something to take onboard if you're going for the 100% replica approach. In addition the white strip which caps the vertical window strip is alot thinner than that - it's barely visable. - I would still brighten the window textures more. In reality you never look at PWC during the day to see the bottom few floors near black. Maybe as simfox suggests above, get rid of the glass gradient all together, or maybe leave it very very subtly. Also pump up the window divisions in the vertical strip through the middle a bit. I would also suggest, as SimFox did, that you finish the modeling before you start fiddling around getting the textures right. - I'm not sure if you just haven't gotten around to it yet, but i wouldn't leave the white parts stark white. Dead white buildings do not integrate into existing SC4 buildings very well - they stick out like sore thumbs. Dull it down a bit and put the thin black lines in the cladding on too - preferably matching up with the window divisions (which are infact about twice as frequent on the real building). I hate to be nit-picky but i'm thinking that this could be a truley awesome BAT with the way it's been going so far. Feel free to ignore anything i've suggested because i'm sure it'll be great anway Good luck with it.

Great stuff. Good to see another person doing some NZ BATs.

Metropolis is finished and released! Thanks to all who helped out and provided feedback. It wouldn't have been as successful with out you all.

    Thanks everyone :)

This is Metropolis Apartments. It's a recreation of Auckland, New Zealand's tallest residential building at 155m over 39 floors. It was completed in 1999. This download includes two versions: - a plopable landmark version on a 3x3 base - also a R$$$ growable version with 1800 R$$$ residents on a pair of different 3x4 bases. Thanks for your interest! Any comments welcome!

scififan68, Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you thought so too I've added some lighting to the windows and it looks fine. Lord_Bertrum, Thanks again for the feedback. I'm glad someone else likes the subdued lighting! I agree that some bats have just a bit too much lighting which is why i've toned down the lighting on this one. Also residential buildings generally aren't brightly lite. Woko, If all goes to plan expect it on the STEX in the next month Well Metropolis is basically ready for release once i bring all the files and things together and i'm happy with the way it's looking in-game. An updated Auckland Skytower is also almost ready for release - for this one i've fixed the scaling, added detail and improved the texturing on the first version which is on the STEX now. Once i have those two out of the way i'm going to be continuing work on that (yet to be named) observation tower on the third page. It shouldn't take too much to fix up properly as it's a pretty basic model.

A preview of Metropolis: Almost finished now. Just need to add in some lighting on the windows. Also i think i'll decrease the lighting intensity on the spire and brighten the lighting on the base a bit. Then it should be ready. Unless anyone has some suggestions? Critical comments encouraged!

Yes i will still be releasing that observation tower from the last page, but as i mentioned before i haven't had any time for BATting lately. As far as finishing it goes i'll just rework the textures and small details. Before i release that though i'll probably do a revised version of the Auckland Skytower which is also on the previous page.

Date: 2/17/2005 10:06:11 PM Author: SimMaster Looks nice. The only thing I can suggest is adding some sort of texture to the step platform on the top, right under the spire. (unless that's what it actually looks like)quote> Thanks for the feedback. And that's my intention - to texture the crown. It does look pretty boring there. It's going to be hard to get a realistic texture for it though. I've had basically no time for any BATting lately, but i'm hoping to get Metropolis back on track some time soon. After that i'll probably be doing PriceWaterHouseCoopers for people that know what i'm talking about. For those that don't it's another Auckland landmark - a modern 32 floor office tower. Also are people happy with the window textures in the above picture?
