What kills SimCity 2013 and how to save it!
simmerboy replied to stephanieGrey's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I've had it with these threads. Give EA some time. They've been working hard at the game. Can you not search the other 1,000,000+ threads on this and other forums about these topics? Post there. Don't like it, don't buy it. But I bet that you will still buy and enjoy the game. And(I know you were about to ask this question as well), Simcity is not a sequel to Simcity 4. It is a new version. /Enoughrant Oh, and minecraft requires you to be online to play the game. It's not like it's a pain to have to be online for both minecraft and simcity. -
Speaking of download time, does Simcity take longer to download now that it's the full game and not the beta or is it quicker to install? Also do we have to have the game Update when we first start Simcity like in beta?

Sim City 2013 is a Mercedes with hub caps and a cloth interior

I still think you'll be playing this game in the future. -
The problem is the glassbox
simmerboy replied to Camlon's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Tell me... How on earth would computers be able to simulate so much microtransactions WITHOUT Glassbox? Do you realize how much work that would take? I would much rather wait for simcity 2026 to have better SC(i.E what you talked about) than wait for 2 more years for this simcity to be released. -
Neither of these things have anything to do with it guys. Look, the Gold announcement was made five days ago. Even if it took them until this coming Tuesday to finish printing all the discs, that still gives them an entire week to ship the product worldwide. This is easily accomplished. As for games being released on Monday night/Tuesday morning, yea. Games are released at 12:01am Tuesday. This is the official start of the sales week in the United States. That's why games have midnight releases. The game shows up in the store on Friday... and the store has to sit on it until Tuesday before they can sell it. The publisher specifically makes them wait until that day to sell it in order to not mess up their week 1 sales figure. And what happens if your store decides to sell copies before Tuesday? You're in legal company, and you probably aren't getting games from that publisher for a while... and if you're a game store, that's a major hurt to your profits. As for the download and bandwidth issue? Eh, maybe. But honestly, I imagine that there is an entirely separate Origin server for the different continents... and if this is the case, staggering release days by continent in order to ease bandwidth issues makes literally no sense. Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if they have the Origin client set up for P2P downloading. Really? It takes a week to ship from LA - Berlin worldwide? Okay I admit I don't know much about the topic of shipping. I'd imagine it takes a long time to get through customs in Europe; remember this is Europe, not the US. You're travelling through many countries and I bet for each stop is made the simcity discs have to be sent through customs, etc. Don't quote me, but I don't think it would take a short amount of time to ship overseas.

Also don't forget it will take a bit longer to ship to stores worldwide since they are over seas.

Simcity is not an airport simulator and it never should be. They should use their time to make SC as realistic as possible instead of making the airports as realistic as possible.

What do you think of SC2013
simmerboy replied to Mr Saturn64's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Why are we judging a game before it's release...? -
I think you need a new client if you're trying to download the first beta client. Are you trying to download the first SC Client?

How do you get beta codes?
simmerboy replied to patpatty45's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Just gotta be the faster one to get 'em! -
Will you buy Simcity 2013?
simmerboy replied to MTLT_17's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Already pre-ordered. I'm excited for Simcity. -
You mean you have a key from the last beta? Because I don't think anyone has gotten keys yet for beta #2. I could be wrong but I don't see anywhere where they've given out codes yet.

They're sent out on Saturday I think.

A Different Perspective...
simmerboy replied to soldyne's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
In the worst case scenario in which the servers are shut down, the game becomes impossible to play and we cannot access our files, I will boycott EA forever. But that day has not yet come for SimCity. The game isn't even out yet, and I do not know what the future will bring. I suspect that if they ever do pull the plug on the servers then by that time there will be a way to play without the need for those servers. But, that's just my baseless speculation. We'll see what happens! In the meantime, I'm hoping to get years of enjoyment out of the game. That has value in and of itself. That day will not be happening for as long as Simcity is being played. I doubt EA would shut down Simcity servers until at least a new Simcity game is developed, which probably will be a LOT better. -
Is the new SimCity a downgrade from SimCity 4?
simmerboy replied to Kythlyn's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
1) You defeated your own argument. Inability to save your game. However they're saved in EA's servers. this makes no sense. You can load your saves from EA, just not on your hard drive. 2) Automatic zoning? What are you talking about? Of course you designate your own zones. It's the same as always. The only thing that's different is that the zone densities are affected by the type of road. 3/4) I'm surprised you're complaining about this. In 2013 you would expect most customers to have a decent-to-stable internet connection. Simcity is not for offline play this time. Maybe in the next version if they make one. SC has to be much harder on your computer if it's played offline. EA's servers are powerful enough for Simcity. Quit complaining to EA about your internet. If you want to play SimCity just go buy a better connection. Sure you will travel sometimes and you won't have internet, but can't you at least wait until you have internet? I don't think it'd be hard to find internet service while you're travelling. Just my $0.02. -
Is the new SimCity a downgrade from SimCity 4?
simmerboy replied to Kythlyn's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
That's what Maxis just did to SimCity - start over. they re-did everything from SC4. How do you know what's missing when you haven't even played it yet...? -
Is the new SimCity a downgrade from SimCity 4?
simmerboy replied to Kythlyn's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
We have to realize that Simcity is a fresh, new start. It is not an upgrade over Simcity 4, it's a brand new series you could call it, using the name sim city. Over time the series will develop, just give the developers time. Before we criticize the game, why don't we wait till March 5 to criticize? I played the first beta and I really enjoyed it. Of course it was only an hour per session but it really felt different(a good thing) than SC4. I cannot tell you what new features are in the game, however I really enjoyed it, expecting it to be different than SC4. -
This is NOT a demo. This is a beta. Repeat: This is a BETA. a one-hour beta. Not a demo. It's a BETA. It's to test the servers when come day-one for Simcity. Enough rant...

To me these screenshots that show the tile sizes seem to look like you can build a metropolis if you use the space properly enough.
-
Make sense. Well then in that case I'm looking forward more to Simcity.
-
How was this person able to access the dev beta even though beta hasn't released yet and you only get around an hour to play the beta...? Really confused...
-
Simcity is being emphasized heavily on the idea of connected cities. One city has a lot of trash. Where will it all go if another city can't accept it and the first city doesn't want to use it? If I recall correctly you can just focus on your population. To me it would be a bit impossible to be able to force someone to build a required building(meaning the big business you choose). If you get my drift.

Random Thoughts about the new SimCity 2013
simmerboy posted a topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Hello All, first post. Been looking at the forums for a while though. For my first post I thought I'd share my thoughts about the new SimCity to be released in March. My overall general feeling about the direction SimCity is taking: I love the way SimCity is going. Simcity 4 was 3D which I liked, but not as 3D as the SC5 will be. My favorite new feature: There's a lot of new features... but I think I'll have to say my fav feature added is curvy roads. I have hated the grid style used in SC4. Roads had to be north to south (vice versa), east to west (vice versa) or Diagonally. Now with curvy roads, I can simply drag out whichever direction I want the road to be. I also like the idea of painting zones. As shown in the first strategy video, I can paint residential zones along roads, commercial zones along roads, etc. a minor complaint ( miles away from criticism however), I do not like how road types affect density. I would like to be able to use a small 2 lane road to be able to make high capacity apartments for my sims. I'll find a way to live with it though. Another feature I like is to be able to upgrade buildings. In SC4, all we could do to upgrade buildings is to increase funding. That's it.Now we can choose new features the building can accept and place them wherever we want on the building. A minor complaint I have (again, miles away from criticism) is that we have to be connected online. I'm fine with that because my desktop computer is always online and it's the best one in the house. I play on my laptop sometimes though and I would like to play the game on the road as well. Oh well - guess I'll have to play on a computer with internet capabilities that doesn't leave the house. Online gaming, however, is the future of gaming and it will be interesting to see how Maxis will pull this off. In general I'm excited for the new SimCity. Been watching the strategy videos to pass time. Any points you agree with me? How about disagree?
