Loving it Simfox. "I'm curious how the details will translate into Simcity 4"... and I think the answer is that they won't really, they are just implied there, and it looks awesome.

Looks like the photos I've seen of Chernobyl, it's so run down. From my prop pack which will be finished in a few hours as I work out some UvW unwrap kinks: "The new bottle from Grolsch... Oldfasionly modern!" <-- What BS Credits to my friend Sam.

All my objects are UVW unwrapped, and 1 map per object, so it's just "apply Large Electrical Box.png to Large Electrical Box and go". The only things that need a little more work are metal things that use the mental ray brushed metal material, and glass things that use the mental ray glass material. I don't know what else you need though. If you're willing to render please let me know what I need to do to make your job as easy as possible

Nice pics everyone. I'm DJing in a few hours, maybe I'll have some nice pics of me rocking it loud and hard.

NOOOOO! This is a very sad day for NL. I wonder how long we'll keep up the orange flags in the back yard and stuff

Simfox: I've tried several times, and never managed to get it working. If you'd like to render stuff for me though I'd really appreciate it. I don't expect half the detail to ever show up but I put it in for two reasons; for starters, to me a model needs pixel mash, it doesnt matter what, but there needs to be something there to IMPLY detail even though what it is is utterly indistinguishable. To add this its much easier to make realistic details though than contrived details, even though both will create the detail implying mush. Secondly, my primary purpose in BATing is modeling, and so I put a lot of work in my models. I don't really care if it doesn't show up in the end, for me the pleasure is in making it. As for the wires, I play to also put verticle spacer cables between the two wires, but make it all an alpha mapped plane between the rigs. This should allow me to make the cables a little thicker than realistic and have them show up anyway. (For simcity purposes the 2 cm wires will probably be more like 10 cm thick.

As part of my rail prop pack that I'm working on (also included will be ticket machines and sign boards and time tables and other crap)

I hate the way scare tactics are used in schools. The same goes for all drugs and sex. The dumbest part is that when people do use drugs or have sex and don't experience the direful consequences, any trust or belief in what the health teacher said is blown. Furthermore, there's this thing called desensitization. The next time those students hear a friend died their first thought it going to be, [Marc- Edited for language] It's a hoax again." In my experience I am almost completely desensitized to deaths of teens from or by drunk driving. I have been hammered over the head with this ***** so many times by school, driver ed, and my parents that I don't give the next newspaper article my parents hand me about a teenager dying a second glance. I have also seen movies of this exact type of experiment in both Health class and Driver Ed, if anyone told me my friend died I would probably just not believe it. Too many dirty tricks ruin trust and confidence, especially over important things.

Simcity Creator announcement review
ianpaschal replied to mightygoose's topic in City-Building Games
I'm not interested. I've lost all faith in future SC releases. I think if i ever move away from SC4, its going to be an incredibly complex simulator that I built. -
I'm at school right now but i'll certainly take a listen. Looking forward to this.

Looking good, although the lighting doesn't look quite right to me. there seems to be a little too much ambient lighting (and shadows) and too lit direct sun.

The Story of Mount Rose and Mount Grace, California
ianpaschal replied to Jillybean86's topic in SC4 City Journals
Very nice work! If you know one thing about me, it's that I am a complete sucker for historical realism and accuracy. This warms my heart You do the rural stuff very well -
I go completely as realisticly as possible. This requires me to custom BAT just about everything and make loads and loads of NAM pieces, but oh well. Its well worth the effort. Another thing that I've found out is that: 1 SC4 Tile = 16 SC4 Meters = 10 Real Meters I'm not sure how well that holds up on a larger scale, probably safer to measure by street widths, but that may be helpful when measure stuff in google earth.

alrighty. here is a shot of the finished station model. gotta texture now. https://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x315/Sunshift/bigggrender.jpg and some station junk for on the platforms:

ya thanks mate. I still need someone with 3ds max though for my final. Maybe simfox or jason can help me out.
-
Yep. I made a similar topic. If anyone can render BAT's I'd really appreciate it.

naise. If someone whats to model Hart Plaza, I will model all the stages and stuff for DEMF I had a great time there this weekend.

BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
ianpaschal replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
It will take different amounts of time depending on the BAT but you can almost guarantee it will take a long time. What are your computer specs? Especially if it's an older computer you may have to just let it run over night and let it chug chug chug. -
Solidworks to Gmax? Can it be done?
ianpaschal replied to Psycho_Teddy's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
or .obj I think. The problem here is they're different concepts of modeling. I have a lot of experience between the two from various internships and things, CATIA to 3ds Max, but here's the low down: Programs like Gmax, and 3ds Max are surface modeling programs. The shapes you see are simplified by the computer, projected as a series of vertices joined into faces to create the shapes. Programs like Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks, or CATIA are solid modeling programs. This means that you can never zoom in on a face; the curvature of a sphere will always be a perfect circle. This is done by the program calculating what's solid and what's negative space using math equations instead of by meshes. So how does this affect you? Well you have to convert the large stack of equations for all your shapes that are used to calculate solid mass, into meshes. I remember the guy in the cubicle next to me at MSC Software once gave me a list of the best meshing softwares but I can't find it anymore and it sounds like you're stuck with however Solid Works chooses to convert the math into points and faces. What you'll want to do really is just look at what file types Gmax can import; .3ds for sure, maybe also .obj. Export 1 copy of each and try importing them and seeing what works best. .3ds is, as far as I know the simplest and I had bad experience trying to convert complex solid models into .3ds. .igs did not work all that well because it used NURMS and 3ds max sucks at those. .obj worked best in my memory, however sometimes the faces had their normals backwards which is understandable if CATIA didn't get all the faces facing the right way since the original model has no faces, only mathematical projections. Experiment, play around, see what works best. It shouldn't matter if you get it right on your first try since it takes only 5 mintues to export and import stuff. -
I was right next to it today and yesterday at DEMF!!!1 Woot! Its a hideous building imo but a nicely done BAT

Personally I find it a kind of hideous building, but its a very well done BAT as usual. Nice work!
