Great map, and the fact that it's smaller than my version, even if it's still huge, makes it more plausible that people may be able to actually use it. :D

Harrisonburg has been uploaded to the STEX, and should be available shortly!

Thanks for the comments, guys! I hope to be more active in map making again, though school is coming up in less than a month.

This is a map of Harrisonburg, Virginia, US. It is scaled accurately. It is 40 by 28 km. The map has been rotated counterclockwise by 11.5° to align with the streets of downtown Harrisonburg. Instructions (very important note below): If you don't have my plugins pack, download it here. 1) Place the 1500m.dat plugin in your plugins folder, and remove any other height mod plugins... thanks to Andy80586 and lookinin for helping me create the mods. 2) Create a new folder called Harrisonburg in your ...My Documents/SimCity 4/Regions directory. 3) Download the config.bmp file and place it in the new folder 4) Download the Harrisonburg1500.jpg file and remember where you downloaded it to. 5) Run your SimCity 4 game 6) Open the Harrisonburg Region 7) On your keyboard, press and hold down 'ctrl' + 'alt' + 'shift' + 'r'--this should bring up a dialogue box 8) Browse to the folder that you downloaded Harrisonburg1500.jpg to, find "Harrisonburg1500.jpg", and open this file. 9) This should start the rendering. BE PATIENT. This will likely take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. 10) Have fun! Copyrights: I don't care about copyrights. You may use this however you want, as long as it is legal. If you want to give someone credit, just say Mallow The Cloud made the map. Unfortunately, the only data I could find for Yellowknife was this: http://glcfapp.umiacs.umd.edu:8080/esdi/index.jsp It has a resolution of 1km, though, so it's not really all that useful.
  6. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

Well, I'm glad you got it solved anyway.
  7. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

Ah, I think I see the problem... or it may just be an artifact of the image you posted... it's hard to tell. The colors (green and blue) do not look like true (255) green and blue to me. I attached a new config.bmp file... you will have to rename it to config.bmp (instead of config1.bmp) after you unzip it... try it out in place of the current config.bmp and let me know what happens. config1.zip
  8. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

Hmm... can you right click the folder for that region, go to Properties, and take a screenshot. Also, could you take a screenshot of the inside of that same region folder?

  10. Rendering Problem: Gaps Between Cities

Hmmm... just out of curiosity, try loading one of the cities that doesn't render properly. It might be that it did render properly, but it is not showing up on the region map...

Even though the windowed mode might be running when your screen has a resolution of 1600x1200, the resolution of the game itself in window mode (the size of the window) is less. That might explain it?

It's okay, use. Sometimes little problems can cause the whole thing not to work. It can be frustrating. For Lisbon and Rome, I believe you should just have 1000.dat, and not import.dat, in your plugins folder.

    Great job!

Nice start. Have you had a chance to look at my tutorial yet? https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=120&threadid=64968&enterthread=y&STARTPAGE=1 I believe much of the southern part of Sweden has elevation data for it.
  15. Mt Farron

Actually, some volcanoes are pretty low with shallow slopes like that. And I think it would be fun to build in that crater. Nice map!
  16. London England

Well... let's see, you could try making the jpg a greyscale jpg in IrfanView...

The problem you are getting is a result of SC4 not recognizing that the 250m.dat is in the plugins folder. Make sure it's located here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\250m.dat If it is, and you still have problems rendering, let me know.

Yeah. If you have iDraw, you can click the option "Show colors used in the picture" on the pallette. Then, the water should be much lower than the rest. So, select the first land color, and lower it to just above "Sea Level." Then, drop the highest used color by the same amount, and use the "Gradient" tool to make all the colors in between work as well. Then, finally, open it in IrfanView and re-save it as a greyscale jpg.

With no height mod: Greyscale 0: 252 meters (827 feet) below sea level Greyscale 84: Sea level Greyscale 255: 513 meters (1683 feet) above sea level Other points of reference... Greyscale 50: 102 meters (335 feet) below sea level Greyscale 100: 48 meters (157 feet) above sea level Greyscale 150: 198 meters (650 feet) above sea level Greyscale 200: 348 meters (1142 feet) above sea level

Actually, you're going to want 37N, 85W and 38N, 85W. Try those ones out.
  22. Rendering Problem: Region Generation Error Message

I guess I should add a couple more things to the list, then. I'll edit it now Darc, if it begins rendering, a screen similar to the one that shows up while loading a city comes up, and says "Creating New City" instead of "Loading [City Name]".
  23. MallowTheClouds Official Map Making Guide

The problem is that the config.bmp file doesn't have the right colors. Make sure the blue is <0 red, 255 blue, 0 green>.

    Thanks for the comments, again!
  25. Awesome! If this can be competed, it would indeed be a great breakthrough in fantasy map-making! Moganite and sam have already answered your question regarding terrain height, but if you have any other questions about things like that, feel free to PM me.
