It would be illegal to build any normal building with less than 30% of the windows operable. I am bitter that my school's new architecture building does not have a single one, so it relies completely on mechanical systems for all ventilation.

One of the people my sister went up against in the state spelling bee championships back in the day said she spent at least 4 hours per day studying the dictionary. I don't understand why you'd spend a significant portion of your childhood doing such a thing, but to each their own.

Even my previous car, which could seat 8 people, was 19/29 in the U.S. and would be 23/35 in the U.K. How many 8-seaters do you guys have that get 35 MPG? Any I still don't understand the hate for manual transmissions. They're not that difficult to learn, and make driving more fun and involving. Sure, it becomes more difficult to text and eat while driving, but that can only be a good thing.

When my brother was born, my parents bought the smallest vehicle they could find that could fit three car seats across the back, which was a Mercury Sable. It's not that hard to strap three kids in the back of a sedan, and there is really nothing wrong with kids fighting a little bit. Pacifying them with electronics probably does more harm in the long run. That's just my opinion. Vienna uses the same transportation setup as most German cities. I was recently all over Germany and marveled at how easy and fast it was to get around in the city because of the system, though similar trips in Berlin took noticeably longer than they did in Munich.

There is no reasonable argument against taking business away from drug dealers. Think of all the horrible things that were done for booze during prohibition - these things are still done today for drugs. Taking the control away from cartels and giving it to the government could, in theory, drastically reduce crime. That is my argument for legalization, besides the fact that alcohol abuse is far more destructive and dangerous than marijuana abuse and yet is legal.

I like the use of crosswalks that are level to the sidewalk rather than the street. This causes cars to slow down and look for pedestrians, and gives pedestrians the true right of way. I'm not saying to use this at all crossings, just at those where you want a smooth flow of pedestrian traffic. And I guess ped/bike orientation in general. Much easier and cheaper to just walk places.

They did decide to put one in Fargo, ND, where it doesn't do any good. It's in the middle of a new residential development with practically no traffic.

I jsut went to Chicago, and I have to say I liked it a lot more than New York. That might be because I am from the Midwest, though.

Mine had a similar event just last week. Some guy wandered into the architecture building (located a mile from campus) in the morning with a gun. Turned out to be a pellet gun, but they had the building locked down for a bit then canceled classes in that building for the day. And last fall someone left a backpack by a bus stop the day after the VA Tech incident. They had to evacuate buildings within 100 yards and the Fargo bomb squad came in and detonated it. The backpack was full of clothes. At least it gave the bomb squad something to do.

I have two: Minnesota State Highway 84. Not much for hills, but fun curves. Very scenic through the north woods of MN along numerous lakes. I probably like it so much because my grandpa taught me a lot about driving on this road. US Highway 60 in Virginia and West Virginia. Only true mountain road I've ever driven on. I couldn't test the car's limits because my easily-carsick mother was riding shotgun, but some day I need to go back and really give it hell. There probably wasn't a 300 foot stretch of road that wasn't a hill or a curve.

The Fargo, North Dakota suburb of West Fargo looks like this: Nothing but awful developments featuring beige vinyl-clad split-entries, some of which are twin homes. These are usually 1200-1500 finished square feet and run about $140k, which is why they keep building them. The rest of Fargo isn't that bad, some of the neighborhoods from the 1930's and earlier are gorgeous.

I have a 17" laptop with 1920 x 1200 resolution. I love the huge screen area, I can easily run architectural design software without a second monitor.

My current car is a 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera wagon. Its design dates back to 1982 and the 160 HP V6 won't win too many races, but it can easily haul lots of people and stuff comfortably and efficiently. Just last night it carried six college students across the frozen plains of Minnesota while getting 30 MPG. It has 193k miles, and the damn thing won't die. My old car, which is sitting in my parents' garage and is present in my avatar, is a 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado. An immense but surprisingly agile coupe with an incredibly smooth ride and a 455 (7.5 litre) V8 to take you wherever you want as fast as you want. It has 142k but is in great shape, a bit rusty but mechanically solid. I hope to have it on the road soon again.

Cocaine is Schedule II, meaning it is illegal for private use but can be used in medical settings (as a local anesthetic). Marijuana is Schedule I, meaning no use for anyone. There have been dozens of studies and real life cases where it has been proven to be very beneficial for medical uses. Marijuana becoming a Schedule II drug is an absolute no-brainer for anyone, but personally I'd like to see it legalized and treated like alcohol.
