  5. guidelines Forum Game Rules

Forum Game Rules Just a reminder to new members to Simtropolis and veterans of the site alike... Replacing the old 2-Post Rule (2PR) previously in effect, there is now a 1-Post Rule (1PR) which applies to all Forum Games topics. This means to reply again inside any given forum game, there must be ONE other poster who replies after your previous post. Some trivia-based games with their own anti-spam rules are exempt from the rule, but like the rest of the forums, spam is not allowed in any of the threads. If the rules are broken, we will take the appropriate action if things get out of hand. We want everybody to have fun, but we also want everybody to get involved in the games as well, so that's why the rules were implemented. Games that are duplicates or very similar to existing games are discouraged, so please Search the forum using the search bar at the top of the forum home screen, or check on the forum games index. The site staff aim to monitor the games on a regular basis. Anyone with questions, comments, concerns, etc. is free to PM a staff member. Remember that this forum is for forum games, not for spam, personal vendettas, political discussions, etc. Please keep it pleasantly off-topically on topic. Happy forum gaming!
  6. The Mass Transit Discussion Thread

I had to come out of hibernation to say that the lack of mass transit in the offline mode is a kick to the face. A major city cannot live on roads alone.
  7. Will Wright

Will Wright speaks yet again, this time to Gamespot. Interesting little interview. Fun fact... he knows way too much about Care Bears.
  8. The Custom Member Label Club

While many of us, including myself, are happy about our new custom labels that are popping up everywhere, I think consolidating all the thank you's into one thread would keep the forum less cluttered. If you have a new custom label, use this thread for thank Simtropolis for the gift of custom text. Your Enlightened Ruminant, The_Dalai_Llama. P.S. Please don't turn this into a generic member label thread. Only custom labels, please.
  9. Mega Man 9?

Link My question to Capcom is, "Why did it take you so long?"

Barbarossaquote> Sorry, but no party should have total control of the government for any reason. The country works best when there's some give-and-take between the parties. If Obama gets to do whatever he wants, things could be much worse than they are now. If it were the other way around (total Republican control), it might make the conservative part of me happy, but you know that with power comes greed and we saw a bit of that during the Bush years.

  12. Debating about Political Debates!

Like them or not, debates are necessary... many undecided voters watch them in order to help them make a decision. Sure, some debates are worse than others, but they're important to the process.
  13. American 2008 Election

Biden, eh? I don't think it's going to help Obama's street cred, but that's just me.
  14. Thoughts on Life.

Life is good, short, a highway, and worth living. That's all you need to know.
  15. Troops stage coup in Mauritania

Man they love their military coups in Mauritania, huh? It's a shame much of Africa is run by brutal regimes and militant groups just looking for power.
  16. 100.000+ Gorillas found

Great news. Hopefully the price of gorilla meat will drop considerably.
  17. Bears Have A Taste For Human Blood

Masochist, you're allowed only two topics with a Yakov Smirnoff reference, you know.
  18. "Emo" and "Goth" Trends To Be Banned In Russia

Another hit for freedom of expression... but it's Russia so it's not a surprise. I would like to see a world without emos, but I'd rather see the fad die than a forced ban.

Not insulting you in any way. quote> Well... if I have to be serious. Seriously, I have little or no knowledge of this subject so I can't comment much on it, but I don't see time travel, as we refer to it, possible. However, we are always traveling in time... but only at one speed.
  20. Planet Earth is Tiny

It's not the size of the planet that matters, it's the motion of its oceans. But yes, Earth is small even compared to other planets in our solar system... except for Pluto, but we don't talk about him anymore.
  21. Simcity Box

I'll go in alphabetical order. A. I kind of like the direction SCC is taking even if it's a bit underwhelming graphically. It's definitely not a true SimCity game, but it could be a nice, little distraction before they announce a proper sequel. B. The SC Box is just a way to get skeptics to buy SCS for a relatively cheap price, but I don't see the point in the combo pack. SC4 was one of the best-selling PC games of 2007... 4 years after its initial release! And SCS did sell alright, not great, but not horribly. C. Yeah, perhaps EA definitely hurt the SimCity franchise with Societies and I don't see Creator doing much to help, and having Spore being delayed and perfected didn't help SimCity at all. Spore is probably 99% complete now so Maxis and Will Wright should have to start brainstorming about a future SimCity. Not that the Spore delays were bad or anything... because Spore will be amazing and we can't have Maxis release an unfinished game.
  22. The Media

Originally posted by: Barbarossa First, from my perspective, the majority of news programs are Republican-oriented, or, more precisely, are conservative-leaning. With the sole exception of Keith Olberman (and perhaps Schiffer), I cannot think of a single news show host who is not biased towards the right. Tim Russert is dead, mind you. quote> I must absolutely disagree with you to a point. Countless polls and studies show that most journalists define themselves as liberal while a small majority say they're conservative. I find that some news outlets (MSNBC, New York Times, and CNN to a lesser extent) typically lean to the left... and the big 3 nightly news shows are also pretty favorable to liberals. That doesn't mean there's conservative bias out there. Talk radio is still heavily conservative and I believe Fox News somewhat balances the cable news bias with its conservative bias... but overall, the media is left-of-center, in general. Originally posted by: MrCinatit You want to see commentary masquerading as news? Watch Lou Dobbs. Watching his hate-filled mouth-frothing tirades is rather sickening. There was a four month period when I had a little contest: I would watch his show for the night until he would "report" on a story involving himself, or inject himself into a story. The longest I went during that period: 15 minutes. That is right - every night, Lou Dobbs would report on a story about Lou Dobbs within 15 minutes of every show. The guy is terrible.quote> The same thing can be said about Bill O'Reilly, I think. He always seems to bring himself into some of the stories he covers. Nevertheless, I'd rather listen to O'Reilly and Dobbs than Olbermann or Matthews, by far the most biased "journalists" on TV. Of course, we do have opposing opinions... I don't mind Dobbs that much. Link to some Wiki thing about bias Oh yeah, I do agree on your other two points. Too many pundits, too much propaganda, too much celebrity news.

High Life and Milwaukee's Beast are pretty awful, too... but the worst goes to my dad's beer of choice, Genesee. Miller Lite is my default beer of choice, but it's certainly not the best. 24. The space/time travel debate

I just came back from the future and I found out that no, it's not possible.
