Some might be easy to do, others might have to wait for future expansion packs or even further installments. However, the early signs are a positive sign that they are at least willing to listen.quote> How is there 'openness early' here? This game has about 6 months before release, and most games are usually announced a year or two before it is actually released. And how are they 'listening'? There have been topics for years on what Sim City 5 would be like and what we wanted it to be and they never once 'listened' to those suggestions. How come people think they're going to listen now? They may be able to add some of the suggestions in to this game but many will not be added simply because of the direction they're going in. On a long term basis, Sim City 4 will still have a vibrant community until a true Sim City game is released. Who knows how long that will be.
  2. How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

My first reaction to this when I saw the announcement at Gamespot was "OMG ***** ARE THEY DOING!?" In that article it was stated by Chris Beatrice from Tilted Mill that: Beatrice also revealed that SimCity Societies will differ from previous SimCity titles--though he wouldn't say exactly how. "This SC is not a realistic urban simulation," he bluntly said. An EA rep would only say that the title will move the series "in a new and exciting direction" that would "take the franchise back to its roots, and create an accessible, flexible game that will continue to appeal to avid SimCity fans, as well as attract new players to the franchise."quote> Not a realistic urban simulator? How is that taking the game to its roots? Then I saw the 1UP preview, which mentions that zoning, pipe laying, and the power grid have all been removed and that we now plop our buildings. How is THAT taking the game 'back to its roots'? I lay all my pipes and power lines and I do 90% zoning. Plopping certain things is different than plopping ALL THE TIME. Not to mention they've been on the defensive with damage control because of what they said. Now, we come to the Sims. I have no desire to play The Sims games at all and seeing that they're being incorporated in this game saddens me greatly. Wealth? Obedience? Forging my own society? Sorry, but I think SPORE will cover this stuff. As someone else in this thread has said, it appears the grid is back. The grid is OLD, it's time for an update to get rid of it. Of course, this game is not Sim City so it's probably fine that it's in there. Lastly, the graphics. OK, I see they're trying 3D. However, I have to say that they look like crap. I certainly hope there are more transportation options than just that kind of road. They could be early screenshots too, but with 6 months or so to go before release, I'd think the graphics would be set in stone pretty much. They may get more detailed but I doubt it. What we're seeing is a good indication of what we're getting I think. If they don't want us to think that, then they should have grabbed screenshots of the current build of the game before releasing the screenshots they did and then coming out with some 'newer' ones. Yes, graphics is a big thing for a game. But gameplay is more important. This is not Sim City to me. What has been said and we have seen doesn't sway me. I don't understand how people can say Sim City 4 was too complex. There are many games that are far more complex than SC4 out there and a lot of people play them without problem. Once you learned how to play the game, and LEARNED is the key word, the game is quite fun. Every game we get we have to learn how to play it. WE ARE ALWAYS LEARNING NEW THINGS. I will say that learning to play SC4 was difficult and that is probably why so many people think it's 'too complex'. However, you stick with it and keep learning how to play it to the point where you have a good grasp on it. Unless you're a quiter. Over the last couple of years fans have talked about a new Sim City and what it would be like and what we would like in it. As others have said, we've been completely ignored on this. I understand companies don't have to listen to us but we BUY THEIR PRODUCT and so they should be listening to us. There is no point in not listening to your customers because once you start doing things the way you want, you get an angry response like in this instance and you will lose customers because of it. Good luck to Tilted Mill. I have a feeling they'll grab The Sims fans and probably some Sim City fans but from what we know, this is not a game I want to play. Who knows, maybe I'll come around as more information is released, but I don't know. And that's the thing, they need to start getting more information out there. They need to tell me why I want this game, especially since so many things have been removed from it. Tell me why I should be excited for this game instead of defending yourself.
  3. Its what Will Wright wanted

I'm sure Will Wright would have found a way to make the next Sim City easier for people to get in to it while at the same time keeping everything in the game. What Tilted Mill is doing is wrong. You can keep the way SC4 was, it just had to be executed better. Too bad we're going to have to wait a lot longer to see that.

The fact is it is EA's property they can do whatever the heck they want to do with it. Also, go to somewhere like Gamespot and look up SimCity 4, tell me if the early screenshots look anything like the final version of the game...? The answer is they didn't, huge improvement was made. You have only a small glimpse of what is coming, so before you whine about how imperfect the game is, actually see the final version and reviews! I absolutely am sick and tired of hearing nothing but complaining from this community, it is shameful and childish. It's also ridiculously embarassing to me, and the other members of the community who are giving this game a chance to prove itself. Now - to the point of this thread: Honestly, I don't think region play will be involved, each city will probably be standalone, there might be neighbor deals available, but as in earlier games, they probably won't be actual neighboring cities. But, we can't know for sure at this time.quote> I'll give this game a chance to win me over but I doubt it will. There's enough information out that basically says this is not like the Sim City we know and that's enough for me to say no to this game. Who knows, maybe they'll stop being tight lipped about this and actually start to say why we should be excited for this game instead of trying to put out damage control to try and win the people back.
  5. Regions

It's too complicated of a feature for this game. Remember, they're trying to pander to not-so-bright-people out there. It is also having a lot to do with Sims, which I think is too close The Sims games, which this could be taken from those games as a way to incorporate these two franchises together.

I mean, the dream of SimCity for me is in planning, laying out. and building a city. Yes, I love the micro-management. But it does appear Tilted Mill at least is trying to get the big thing right so I'll give them a chance at least. We'll have to wait and see if the game is any fun or not. That being said, like the rest of us (I believe) I still hold out hope for a no-holds-bared true SimCity sequel with all kinds of details and a technical level beyond SimCity 4.quote> They're in damage control mode. First they say it's not a "realistic urban-simulator" then they come along and say it is. They're trying to defend themselves now because the current information on the game is not what people were expecting. They're trying to say the right things now because of what they initially said. I've seen other companies get involved with the fan community do a better job than Tilted Mill is doing. I don't want to plop a city and work on getting my SIMS to be wealthy and obedient and whatever else. That's not what Sim City is to me.

Did the super large tower evolve from a zone? A lot of you have been demanding the power of being able to make beautiful hand crafted cities 'exactly' how you want them to look. Two days ago the community was in an uproar because they didn't like the thatched roof house. Well the good news is you don't have to put down the thatched roof house! David Beebe quote> Welcome to Simtropolis! You see, those are only a small aspect of the city. Plopping them is the only way to put them down. I enjoy the ability to ZONE AND PLOP but prefer to ZONE. You guys are on the defensive at the moment and I suspect will be for some time to come. I know you can't talk much about the game, but maybe you should try to tell us why we should get this game and what does it bring to the world of gaming and Sim City itself.
  8. What's the goal here?

Obviously we're all too smart for this game.

This game is now basically dumbed down, and stripped down to the max, i don't know if this game is for american kids or blind deaf and dumb people, but this is surely not a game for a serious sim city player... this is for "the kidz" they might aswell replace the UI text with "1337speak" And have the advisors go all like "omg it iz a fir33 in ur c1tee , lyke lolz, u have to put it out n0.0b!!!Omg lol u suk!" Then they will truely reach out to american kids and/or online "1337" gamers. mightaswell just make the whole damn thing online aswell to make even more money, and reach out to even more mindless idiots. So how sales in Europe will go i'm not too sure of, but i'm quite sure the sales will be bad, in America i predict alot of mindless hordes of flashseeking youths as you said are going to buy it. in Asia though, i have no idea.quote> Awesome post. With gaming becoming more mainstream (look at how the Wii is selling), games will suffer. They're going to be dumber because people want to play a little bit, take a break, play again, repeat. It's pathetic. They're targeting the stupid people because they want to make more money. I predict this game will flop and it will flop hard.

I've read some of his other posts and frankly, I think he should shut up. He's digging himself a hole with some of his comments and that's not exactly a good thing. I've been around to places where people in charge of projects interact with fans and this guy is no where in the same league as those people. This guy spouted his mouth off and in doing so is now in a position of having to put out damage control to try and win back the fans. Not a good way of starting a relationship with the Sim City fanbase. For just being officially announced, there's been A LOT of outrage/commenting on this new game by Sim City fans. Which is good to see people get active in this.

They have the land that is needed for the project but they don't have the money. Remember, MNDOT wanted the contractors to fork over $90 million of their OWN money upfront to fund the project saying they'd pay them back. No contractor submitted a bid in what is the most embarassing moments for the State of Minnesota. I think they should have pushed back the date for the 35E/694 project and instead use that money for the 35W/62 project, which is by far the worst bottleneck in the Twin Cities Metro. Isn't there a website that has information on all the highways in the country? Like US, Interestate, and State highways?

There are many hobby sites that use ads for maintenance. ST doesn't have ads, so it comes down to us to help this site stay alive. No offense, but it sounds like you guys were reading from a piece of paper most of the time. Intro music should be around 10-15 seconds instead of 30.
  16. Even though it took a bit of work to master the skill of micro-managing cities, I think they should take what they have and enchance it. For instance: 1) Instead of running around the map trying to find each school/college/library/etc., have a menu where you can go to adjust the funding for EACH building in your city. Right now they have a similar option, but it's for the system as a whole. I think having the ability to see all the Education buildings you have an be able to adjust the funding in one window is the best thing to do. 2) Streamline and enhance the menu as a whole. I don't know exactly what it should be like, but I think they can do a better job with making the menu not take up so much space. 3) Throw out the grid system and replace it with something that will allow ALL directions to be used. 4) Overhaul the transportation network. There's a lot of interesting things that can be done with this. They're close with Rush Hour, but need to go further. 5) Graphics need to be overhauled and made to be more realistic. They're close with SC4, but I think they can do a better job with integrating roads and other things better. 6) Improve performance. Yes, with such things as I have suggestions it could be difficult, but I believe it is possible to make the game run smoothly. That's just some of the things I'd like to see. Sim City 5 would need a powerful system to run on. I think they should wait a couple years before they make a SC5. Allow PCs to get more powerful first.
  17. Sculpting Columbia River

jeronij, awesome CJ! I am sorry if this was asked previously, but in the last group of pics on this page, how did you get the highway to look darker?
  18. Apparently KOTOR2 is great all the way up until the end where the story just completely falls apart. I want to buy the game, but I cannot justify spending $50 on a game that is incomplete. There is, however, a fan group attempting to restore as much of the content as they can. Once that is released, I may buy the game. Either way, I'm waiting until the price drops to $30 or less and I'll STILL have a hard time trying to justify $30 for it.
  19. Sarah H Bingham General Hospital

I've grown accustomed to using Hospitals for 'free' in Sim City. Would it be possible to make this Hospital free to operate as well?
  20. Highway Signs

woo!! Finally these signs have been released. These will be great in my cities.
  21. NAM: Requests

There's been a lot of requests for 3-lane roads, what about 3-lane ONE WAY roads? Would this type of Highway Split be possible to do?
  22. JTarget

Finally!!! Target makes its way into SimCity. It certainly seems that Target has different store looks everywhere. Every Target I go to they are different on the outside. Just makes them more unique.
  23. NAM General Discussion Thread

redlotus - Again thanks for the fix, this is truly an impressive addition to Sim City.
  24. NAM General Discussion Thread

Sweet. I'll try this out as soon as I get home from work today. Thanks guys, these new additions and the pathfinding fixes are making my city look VERY nice!
