Additional Public Transit
andreharv replied to andreharv's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
@R3V0 Multiple versions of platform width sounds like a novel idea. @boformer and @Tim The Terrible I would tend to agree with boformer. The Santa Barbara station center platform is characteristically narrow. If I developed a platform station this narrow, it would be merely for the sake of making this one station. Most stations I have seen look like they have platforms that are at least 6m wide. This looks like it is barely 2. Do people use it IRL?- 1,259 Replies

I can easily make an island platform station track. The problem is that I will be forced to choose the distance between the tracks and someone somewhere won't like what I come up with. So let's discuss. What would you guys like?- 1,259 Replies

Ok guys I have a small confession to make...while I have been developing this mod, I have been using a small assortment of mods. One of them has been the Loading Screen Mod which causes loading times to be greatly reduced (with or without this mod). That said, once I removed it, I found loading times blew up considerably. Notwithstanding, I have been trying to address complaints of slow loading times and found some inefficiencies in the code from way back that caused loading times to increase near exponentially as new roads were added. I suppose the small road with median was just that turning point where it became most noticeable. In my testing, the basic road with median did not take much time at all to load in itself. Long story short, I will be pushing an update later today to fix these inefficiencies. I would also highly encourage you to subscribe to the Loading Screen Mod. This mod speeds up loading times considerably (again with or without this mod). My initial findings on my rig (i7 4790k, 32gb ddr3, R390 8gb) ~30 mods ~75 assets No NExt, no LSM: 1:05 NExt, no LSM: 3:04 NExt updated, no LSM: 1:54 NExt updated, LSM: 0:53 No NExt, LSM: 0:36 Bottom line: On my machine, NExt currently adds about 2 minutes to the loading time (out of a 3 minute total ). With my updated code and LSM, it added only 17 seconds! Your times will vary but I hope they keep to these proportions. I will be pushing this update later today. For now get the loading screen mod!- 813 Replies

Thanks. Honestly it takes me about 50 seconds to load a new city. Could any of you with long load times check and see if disabling the small road with median helps considerably? I can look over the code some more but this is proving to be kinda a doozy indeed.- 813 Replies

Do you have the original Network Extensions subscribed? I just tested and if you have both v1 and v2, the game will crash during the loading screen. Unsub v1 if you have it.- 813 Replies

Hi guys. I just released a couple updates for Network Extensions 2 and I will now be jumping back on MOM (uhhhhh). First I'm going to tackle some issues regarding placing some of the modded stations (this has driven many people crazy lately). From there we go onto single rail. Did you guys use the dual oneway track on One-Way Train Tracks mod? Not sure whether to implement them but I will find out soon. Once that is done, it will be easier to implement caternaries for one and two track pieces. Stay tuned and like always, thanks for your patience.- 1,259 Replies

The lanes switching does work but for some reason you may have to try it a couple times. I will tighten that up as I have more time. Tram roads will come in time. Vehicle restrictions are going to be a while simply because it requires an overhaul of the code and I the vehicle restrictions once relied on T++ code which is now broken, I will have to figure something else out.- 813 Replies

I will look about allowing cars to cross lanes outside of intersections for turning lane roads as this is kinda the point of them. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't intend on making any larger turning lane roads than what is currently available.- 813 Replies

You need to put the asset back in the folder with the mod. Then you need to go to the mod options and enable steel tracks- 1,259 Replies

@baduncansd Thanks! As far as your second paragraph, I assume you mean to say...in a nice way...that you don't see how the boardwalk is any different than the other paths I have already created. This is a fair observation. Repetition is not my style. There are two niches (niches?) that this fills. First, it connects seamless with the existing gravel ped road's elevated segments, which will be welcomed by those who only use the gravel ped road primarily for the elevated portion. Second, and more interestingly, one thing not very visible in the picture is that the boardwalk is slightly elevated. I will be playing around with exactly how elevated but on uneven terrain, the underside of the boardwalk will expose stilts. So while it is mainly aesthetic differences it won't be limited to just the texture.- 813 Replies

K guys as promised...Just FYI the tree props and planters are not final on the one way with parking roads...they look jacked up right now. You are looking at: 2x3 asymmetrical road, 2x4 asymmetrical road, one lane oneway with parking and trees, boardwalk. Let me know if you have additional suggestions .- 813 Replies

Yeah those too. I am not honoring any of those requests individually. There will have to be an interactive option. At the end of the day I would like a GUI that allows players to literally set the options they want and a road come up. Honestly, there are so many options that some people would rather just look the road up in the menu and only use a GUI to get something specific. Honestly, I could start something like that now. The options that aren't implemented yet or are not possible would be grayed out. This GUI would also support custom bridges as well so content creators could include custom bridge/pillar assets to be used for any of the NExt roads. You didn't ask for any of this...Just thinking out loud.- 813 Replies

There are so many people requesting existing roads without parking. I will probably end up making it a network skin style option instead of duplicating all the roads. As far as the Divided highway, I had the idea for it well before Move It! and now that it is out, it makes home made divided highways pretty easy. IDK...Probably, like the parking option I mentioned, the divided highway may be nothing more than an some kind of option to restrict left turns on existing roads and maybe place some kind of faux median where applicable. At this point, I don't even know.- 813 Replies

@Lost_gecko boardwalks will share the same elevated segments as the current dirt ped road. I do not plan on making a separate tiny dirt road as it would be almost identical to the existing ped road...you may be able to remove the lights using network skins if need be (though I don't know about the bollards)- 813 Replies

Hey ya'll. Just checking in. Sorry I have been kind of scarce the last...ehem several months. I was working on MOM (Metro Overhaul Mod) and because of my vicious ADD if I tried working on it and this I would go crazy. Anyway, I just wanted to share my plans for the next update and we can go over some of the things yall want to see in the game. So me first (I will post pics later): New stuff: 2x3 asymmetrical road (with parking) 2x4 asymmetrical road (with parking) 1L road with parking Tiny boardwalk (I will make a boardwalk promenade if you guys like the tiny version) Fixed stuff (disclaimer, I can't make any promises as I didn't write much of the code but it's safe to say that it should be feasible) Fix bus roads Fix ped roads taking passenger vehicles by default (I may include an option to allow them to use it) (Hopefully) fix issue where mod does not load properly on first subscribe Future stuff (not this next release but...future...er) More tram roads (yeah I'm gonna do em) Asym roads 3x4 and 3x5 (Maybe) Divided highways if I can get the pathfinding right. (would not allow left turns) Add median versions of basic road and possibly 6L road Rendered vanilla tunnels Support outside connections Asymmetrical national highway (will allow left turns) Undivided 4L national highway (will allow left turns) Will not do (Unless I change my mind) Highways with more than 6 lanes Roads with more than 8 total lanes (at least until I start making wider roads) Any overly specific roads (basically if you can't easily find it IRL...or on Google, it probably won't be made here)...Or most configurational modifications that can easily be done in network skins or TM:PE Basic reskins/retextures (network skins and roads united are better suited for this)...Unless @GC_Vos... Thanks guys for your support. If you feel that I left something out that we talked about, yell at me. As I said I will post some WIP pics here later.- 813 Replies
