I haven't installed sc2k on my xp computer, but I did install simtower. After sc4k, it seems kinda bland. but still an old friend. I have two mods, one of them mentioned above, but couldn't get either one to run on this 'puter. Actually they were more like tools to hack the game. someone mentioned having simcopter, and that it was kinda buggy, and the copter kinda hard to handle. seems it was that way on even my win95, and win98 'puters, too. I really enjoyed that one, especially when I could import cities I'd made in sc2k. I've debated whether to try and install it.
