  1. Also, imagine if your city was largely industry, and the neighboring city housed many of the factories' workers. What would happen if all of those workers were no longer there? As a fix, I'm a little worried that the multiplayer aspect of the game will include trading, pollution spill-over, and emergency assistance, but will not include something as simple as inter-city commuting.
  2. ^That first issue is what I've been worrying about, as well. I think multiplayer could be really cool, but I think any of the possible solutions to that problem really take away from the coolness of it all.
  3. Macintosh City Journals

Hey guys, I'm looking into buying a Mac, and I'm wondering: what limitations do Mac users have on them when it comes to Simcity, ST downloads, etc? Thanks!
  4. It's like SimCity... but for a nation!

CN is awesome once you gain an understanding as to how things work--especially when you get involved within an alliance. ^Mutually Assured Defense is a great alliance, btw.
  5. As I try to make my cities more realistic, I'm finding it really frustrating how much land commercial development takes up. It just looks unrealistic. I tried using toraco's commercial 3X jobs mod, but it didn't work for whatever reason. Any ideas?
  6. Third Ward Lofts I

I love you. Truly. Awesome set!
  7. Commerce is taking over my city!

  8. yuck---commerce is taking over my city!

Sorry, I should've posted this is city-building concepts. So you should. Moving. NOB
  9. I'm having a problem I haven't encountered before. I have one city with a population of around 20,000--but the majority of the commercial jobs are distributed elsewhere in the region. The roads work fine, but I wanted to start using bus stops for travel between the two cities. So I put a few bus stops in one of the surrounding commercial job cities. When I go back to my main city, and query the road to see who's all traveling on it, I see that there are quite a few buses crossing the city limits. Yet when I go to the other city, the bus stops report absolutely no usage. The oddest part is that, once in a while, the stop will report usage--but then it goes back to 0% less than a second later. The same thing happens with trains. Any ideas?
  10. Problems with inter-city transit...

Oh, and I'm playing with Deluxe.
  11. Problems with inter-city transit...

^Well, I don't think that's it, because a lot of people work in these cities. And when I check the main city's traffic flows, it shows buses going into the other cities.
  12. Problems with inter-city transit...

Well--I tried that, and it didn't work. What's really weird is that when I query the bus stops, it shows car commuters traveling to it from the other city.
  13. Problems with inter-city transit...

Thanks, giorgos! I'll check that out.
  14. Show us your Downtown!

One of my old downtowns: Looks pretty realistic, huh?
  15. I installed NAM; pretty easy....but I can't find any of the traffic_plugins! The only one that shows up in my plugin file is the -standard one. Am I doing something wrong?
  16. Installing the NAM

Thanks for the quick response, guys! Once I get on my main computer I'll try this out.
  17. New Grantenture

Welcome to New Grantenture! New Grantenture is a territory of Simnation. It was founded 200 years ago, and today has a population of 50,000; comprised of five cities: Holstein, Hoesen, St. Peters, Rochester, and Rockford. Each city has a City Council that deals with city-wide transportation, city finances, health and education, utilities, city beautification, and many other things. The Federal Governing Council (FGC) has the final word on all zoning, regional transportation, and the laws by which the citizens of New Grantenture live by. The City of Holstein Residents: 34,000 Commercial jobs: 18,000 Industrial jobs: 9,000 Holstein, the largest city in New Grantenture, is quiet and family-oriented. Although, it is also a bustling center of commerce. It has emerged from years of decline and financial chaos to become a city of over 34,000 people and hundreds of thriving businesses. City views Neighborhood map: Downtown There are many businesses outside of downtown, but this is the only area designated as the regional central business district. 80% of the regions commercial jobs are located within, or around, the CBD. http://img253.echo.cx/img253/8254/downtownemidk5vl.jpg Historic Row District Holstein Gardens This is what Holstein's all about. Park Village Once packed with low-income apartment buildings, Park Village has quickly become a desirable neighborhood thanks to an improved economy and education district. Wells Park District While it's really defined as a seperate district than Downtown, WPD is a thriving business district and newly established residential neighborhood. It is based around Wells Park. Holstein Industrial Park The Holstein Industrial Park is quickly losing its job-market dominance to Rochester, as requested by the FGC. Several of the old factories are landmarked. NEXT.... Holstein financial update
  18. New Grantenture

MINI-UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN HOLSTEIN Hoesen isn't yet ready for an update, and I was anxious to show you all the new stuff happening in the downtown area of Holstein. Smile Over the past 10 years, the number of office jobs has jumped by about 30%, and the population of the region has risen to over 100,000. This has all been fueled by growth in the suburbs. [many of which are R$ sims *Embarassed*] So, here it is... Does it look pretty realistic? That's what I'm really aiming for. The next big thing to deal with is transportation. The avenues have become pretty cramped, and there's no way I can construct a new highway at this point. Hopefully more bus stops can get the job done for now.
  19. New Grantenture

HOLSTEIN FINANCIAL UPDATE Current treasury: $1,123,000 Highest treasury holding on record: $1,123,000 Lowest treasury holding on record: -$10,000 [about 40 years ago] Forty years ago the city's financial situation was in near ruins. As a last resort, nearly every department saw funding cut by up to 25% and taxes for commercial office jobs ($$ and $$$) were risen to 9%. The education and health systems nearly collapsed, demand for office jobs halved, and new housing construction was at a stand-still. However, forty hears later, the treasury has rebounded to levels never seen before, and living conditions are better than ever. Commericial taxes were even reduced to an all time low just five years ago.
  20. New Grantenture

lol, which suburbs are you talking about? I haven't even gotten close to building those yet!
  21. New Grantenture

Thanks guys! I actually think the homes in Holstein Gardens look more urban than the default setting for R$$ single family homes; sort of like what you find in older US cities. My main goal is to keep this looking realistic. I've actually had a few highrises pop up, like Brink Realestate and that shiny blue one..but I had to demolish them before they were complete because they looked bad in the place they developed.
  22. Pictures of New Denekas

I'm still not ready to start a new CJ, but I'm very anxious to show what I'm up to. I'm trying to show the photogenic side of the region, instead of posting full screen pictures; I'm saving that for the city journal. Please comment! The City of Holstein Population: 28,000 Here's my latest addition... The slogan is still in the works.
  23. Pictures of New Denekas

It's up! https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=64308 Same region, different name.
  24. Pictures of New Denekas

Hey there, 6underground! I'm actually hoping to get my CJ started today SCC will be the first place I post it.
