My uncle lived in Hong Kong for 5 years while he was working on the new airport (he's a civil engineer). He lived in apartment building in the hills, he has a panoramic picture of the view he had in his house. It's unbelievable, right next to downtown, but actually higher up than the skyscrapers so you can sort of look down on it all.

The city does have about 800,000, but the bay area has over 6 million people. I would say eppisgood only has about 3 million or so on his region map. But Sim City might say there is more. (it says that over 10 people live in a single family house so I would expect so) By the way, it's coming along great eppisgood!

Truly an awesome work of art. I wish I had that kind of patience

---------------- When I start on the population of San Francisco I'll be using only the Chicago & New York tilesets because there aren't a lot of 'new age' buildings in SF like there are in Houston. I want to give people the feeling that they are actually IN San Francisco when they view the screenshots. ---------------- That's a good idea, almost all of the tall buildings were built in the 70's and 80's. There was very little construction in the mid 90's, but more buildings are starting to get built again. But even some of the late 80's buildings do look very modern, such as the beautiful San Francisco Mariott(just figured out that what building it was here's a link http://www.skyscrapers.com/re/en/wm/bu/118782/) which is one of my favorite buildings in SF. One of the most like 70'ish buildings to me in SC4 is Kanarowski & Co., which always reminds me of either SF or Hong Kong for some reason. The homes there are not that nice. They are all really close together and most are fairly old, but it's still a decent neighborhood. I drive through there every once in a while when my parents take a wrong turn going to the CAL game.

Avenues and One Ways have On Ramps!
Minotaur420 replied to frazell's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Could someone be so gracious as to post a picture of a one way street onramp to a ground highway? That is one thing that I have not seen..... -
looking good man. I think you could add a lot more trees in orinda though, especially like on those rich home properties. I'd have to say that's what really sets orinda apart from every other city around it, except maybe sort of the oakland hills. All those cities to the east have brown, mostly empty hills, but orinda's are covered in trees, which extend up into the oakland hills. But then it's not quite as tree covered once you get to the other side. Also kinda funny, I've never noticed that channel in oakland before.

The region is looking even better. You're really an amazing terraformer. Too bad the trixies are over, I definately should have voted on that.

ummmm....orinda's a little out of scale. You won't be able to fit a whole lot of it. I'd say MIner Road is where that other road near the edge is. Orinda Way goes parallel to Camino Pablo from about the freeway to almost there. That's were Orinda Village is with lots of shops and stuff. There would be golf course in the top right then. Lake Cascade isn't much, just a little thing and part of the country club. The other side of the freeway has theatre square with a few more shops and like 1 small office building. No development the southwest side of camino pablo for about halfway, but across from miner is el toyonal where houses are built up into the hills. Some houses are below moraga way on the other side of the freeway. and all down to the edge of the map.

Those are the oakland hills, the nicest part of oakland probably. the closer to 24 and the caldecott the steeper they go so there's just little strips of houses along a couple of roads(really steeply built house) when it gets steep. and berkeley doesn't go that far into the hills because starting next to CAL, Tilden Regional Park starts spreading north through the hills. By the 880 i think it's a lot of tight low wealth low density residential. Any body living sort of around downtown in west oakland, should be poor, with some apartment buildings and stuff, but the buildings right in downtown are some nice commercial stuff. As he said alameda is a lot of low-medium wealth people.

maybe....i don't know that spot real well. But most people call the shopping area next to uc berkely telegraph or university. My friend took classes at berkeely and i just asked him and he's never heard of rochedale or kelly's pizza(?), he says telegraph is where all the vendors on the street are tho... and i know what you mean about the places with the topography....hard to tell. oh yeah and sorry if i seem a little rude or anything, i'm sure you're doing an awesome job but like u said i think you want it to be as accurate as possible, i know when i found out more about rotterdam and saw pictures after i built my version i really wanted to make a totally accurate one but i don't have that patience so i didn't bother, but i really wanted mine to be just like the real thing.

Ok, i busted out the maps Piedmont is really small and completely surrounded by oakland. Your Berkeley extends just a little too far south. emeryville is really small and doesn't even extend that far inland. You could include Albany in the top left corner of berkeley. for orinda: the main road moraga way goes pretty much up against those hills and they'res only development around el toyonal road. You also have orinda village and some of the orinda country club. I think the caldecott tunnel goes right under you eastport words (never heard of eastport, canyon, rochedale village by the way) which makes me realize i think your uc berkeley is too far north a little, and half of that cragmont/berk. hills thing is actually tilden regional park, and it's not a different city anyways. you should jsut look at streetmaps to see where development is. There's a lot to say but i think it can wait, otherwise i won't get everything straight, don't got a whole lotta time right now, need to go to bed. Can't wait to see the cities

Actually, Orinda is an upscale town of about 20,000 people. Just about the best public schools in the bay area. The northwest side of 24 is a bit more upscale than the other side. There's a LOT of trees in Orinda. More than any other city around. There's just a bit of commercial extending from the freeway in the valley a short distance in both ways, more so on the northwest side. In Sim City 4 regions of the are I've had troulbe figuring out right were orinda is, the roads and everything. So i donno. Definately no farming. One thing about the bay area, overall it's very weatlhy. Sim city could make this hard in some cases. I don't know or care if you're cheating but if you put in a lot of parks and stuff and things to help increase the wealth of the people that could help. Overiously you can't have people in an orinda-type place all commutting to san francisco and oakland mostly, where they have their big jobs in office towers. I donno, it's just kinda hard to make it really perfect but you're doing an awesome job good luck. I'll be sure to stop by this thread so i can help you make it more realistic using some of my knowledge of the area. San francisco is such a great city, i love walking around the financial district and shopping in union square. p.s. when i write long messages they tend to be sort of mixed up and stuff....so hopefully i wrote everything alright
-
if you wanted i could make you some nice maps out of your traffic and all off data screens. if you're interested. I love san francisco and i'd be happy to do it. When you finally get your city done i could label all the landmarks and neighborhoods and stuff. Of course you've done so much research you know stuff that i don't know so you'd have to help me with some of the labelling
-
awesome. I donno where u get the patience and find the time, but awesome. I donno what your map looks like but i live in orinda i hope you have that, it'd be interesting to see your rendition.... oh, and too bad there's no more room to make the little golden gate visitor center thing on the northeastern side of the bridge.

the strikes could also be because the funding is simply too low and all they need to do is increase it. However, if it's maxed out and they still have a strike, then they need to build a new, say hospital.
