Building (1x2 CS $) in the historic centre of Schiedam, a small city close to Rotterdam.Originally two 17th/18th century houses, which were connected in the 19th century and restyled. Entrance in empire style. The variaty inwindow types and different floor heights show this building is a combination of two older houses, which can also be seen by the two different roof types. Original building soon to be restored. V-apps, 09-03-08

In the first quarter of the 20th century, a lot of companies built offices in the centre of Amsterdam. Although there are modern examples along former canals as the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, most office buildings from that period, mainly the ones along the canals, are designed in a more traditional way, such as the one for the Banking Company of Pierson & Co (2x3 CO $$$), built in 1917/18. The company, a private banker, asked the Van Gendt Brothers to design a traditional 17th century facade, not only to show the company's wealth, but also to show reliability; as if the company had been there for centuries. The facade is mainly decorated with details based on Dutch classicism. It was expanded at the garden side in the 1970s. This download also contains a college version of the building. Bank building at the Nobelstraat in Utrecht (4x2 CO $$$). Designed in the style of the Amsterdam School in 1920/21 by J. Baanders, architect in Amsterdam. Sculptures by Hildo Krop. Due to a lack of materials such as nature stone in these days, sculptures are made by using creative masonry techniques. V-apps, 08-03-08

Corner shop at the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal / Raadhuisstraat, Amsterdam (1x1CS $$$). Built in 1893 and designed by H.J. Wennekers. Demolished in the 1920s. V-apps, 02-13-08 Edit 02-29-08: due to a little mistake in making the LOT, the first version wouldn't appear in the game. Only the LOT file has been edited.

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Amsterdam, Weesperplein 2-4, DiamondExchangeBuilding (1910/11). Designed by G.A. van Arkel (1858-1918), who also designed three of the bigger diamond workshops in the city of Amsterdam. Sober Art Nouveau, slightly based on Berlage's ExchangeBuilding at the Damrak (1898/03). The building not only housed the Diamond Exchange, but also a bank, a restaurant and a barber shop. Renovated in the early 1920s, 1959 (after a fire which destroyed the roof) and 1991, when a new roof was added. The BAT version shows the original design of 1910/11. Rembrandt Theatre. Originally built between 1900/02, by a design of Evert Breman and Willem Molenbroek. The theatre was renovated in 1938, the facade and most of the interior was demolished. In 1940 the theatre burned down, the site remained a gap for many years, until 1969/70 when more of the surrounding buildings were demolished to make place for the new Caransa hotel. Edits (11-21-04): Model size - i put it on a smaller lot (3x5 instead of 4x6), as this fits better with both my own files, as well as most other w2w buildings. Most walls are changed into a red brick, which is more realistic. Only the representative facades were made in a more expensive yellow brick. V-apps, 07-29-04 / 10-27-04 / 11-21-04 / 11-26-04

Former dancing school, situated in the old station area in Delft, the Netherlands (3x2 CS $$ growable). Built as the Stations Coffee house. The first train station in Delft had no restaurant; passengers went to one of the cafés near the station for their drinks while waiting on the train. One of these restaurants was known as the "Station's Coffee House". The richly decorated facade was built in 1894, and by the 30s it was connected with the surrounding buildings. The building was last known as dancing school Wesseling. As a result of the construction of the rail fly-over in the 60s a small part of the facade was demolished. Because of new developments for the area and plans of making a train tunnel to replace the fly-over, all buildings in this neighbourhood, including the dancing school, were demolished in september/october 2009. Sadly, plans for reconstruction of the facade in the area failed. The BAT is a reconstruction of the situation in 2009. V-apps, 10-07-09

Harbor buildings (2x3 CS $$) in the historic centre of Schiedam, a small city close to Rotterdam. Buildings of this type also excisted in Rotterdam before the May 1940 bombings. The small gates on the lower floors give access to the warehouses at the back, while the decorated doors give access to the appartments and offices above. All three were built in the last quarter of the 18th century or early 19th century. The right two buildings were renovated and expanded in the 1910s or 1920s. Original buildings are still waiting to be restored, and are in a rather bad condition. V-apps, 09-06-08

Former Butcher Store (2x3 CS $$) at the Prinsenstraat in the Dutch village Aalten (Gelderland), not far from the German border. Even though no longer a butcher store, the building still got the monumental store interior. V-apps, 08-23-08

Luxury Store (1x2 CS $$$) at the Oudkerkhof in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The left building in Renaissance style was built in the first half of the 17th century. The upper part disappeared in the 19th century and was replaced by a sober cornice. The two buildings were connected after the 2nd world war. V-apps, 08-10-08

Luxury furniture store (1x3 CS $$$) at the Oudkerkhof in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The Oudkerkhof is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Utrecht, situated close to the Dom Church. Until 1904 this building used to be a early 17th century merchant home (appr. 1600). Only the top floor and roof with stepped gables still date from that time. In 1904 the lower two floors were renovated and a big shop front was added. In the twenties the shop front was decorated in a Art Deco style, as still can be seen on the upper part. Garden and Gardenhouse disappeared to expand the building. V-apps, 08-09-08

Shops (1x2 CS $$) at the Gasthuismolensteeg in Amsterdam. Number 10 (right) was built in 1882 in a mixture of neo Renaissance and Neo Classicism. Lower front renovated in the 1920s. Number 12 was built in appr. 1940. The 18th century top gable was re-used on the new house. V-apps, 07-27-08

Apartment building at the Recht Boomssloot (1x3 R $$) built in 1939/40, with recycling of two older top gables from demolished houses. Fooling tourists and laymans, these two facades appear to be much older due to their old sand stone top gables. Behind these facades, the roofs are connected to make more space. Between the two World Wars E. van Houten, a public servant in Amsterdam, promoted recycling of old top gables, resulting in more than 200 replaced 17th and 18th century sculptures throughout the historic centre. These buildings are nowadays known as "Van Houten Buildings". Most of these houses can be recognized by the masonry, and the similar heights of the floor levels. V-apps, 07-23-08

Commercial block (3x2 CS $), based on buildings at the Zeedijk in Utrecht, the Netherlands, just outside the historical center. The Zeedijk is part of the former small city "Bemuurde Weerd" attached to Utrecht. This block is built in between 1900 and 1915 and replaced several smaller houses. V-apps, 07-13-08
